On the Eleventh Day of Christmas, Della Terra Teas Sent Me This Tea!

Here we are, Christmas Eve!  Whenever I think of “Christmas Eve” I am reminded of a time when my youngest daughter – who is now twelve years old – would dance around a few days before Christmas Eve and sing “Christmas Eve is in a couple of eves.”  It was really adorable.  How quickly they grow up.

Taster’s Review:

At first glance – and at first sip! – this tea would seem to be very similar to the Peppermint Perfection from Day 3 with the notable omission of the chocolate in this tea, and the addition of the popcorn.

I don’t know if the popcorn adds a whole lot to the flavor of this tea, but I do know that the chocolate certainly added a delightful dimension of flavor to the aforementioned Peppermint Perfection tea.  That said, I really like this tea.  This tea tastes more candy cane-ish to me because there is no chocolate, and I don’t usually have chocolate covered candy canes (although, this year, Santa will be putting a chocolate filled candy cane in my stocking).

I like the creaminess of this tea.  This tea seems creamier to me, and there is a savory element to this as well.  At the finish, and at the very start of the aftertaste, I note a pepper taste.  Just a slight “kick” of pepper.  I don’t know where that’s coming from, but it’s there.

This is less “minty” than the Peppermint Perfection.  The mint here is a gentle, smooth mint taste.  The black tea seems richer and more robust to me with this tea as well.  There is almost a malty note to this, and I’m not sure if that’s from the tea or if it’s from the vanilla and cream flavoring.

So, it sort of surprises me to say that if I were asked to choose between the Peppermint Bark tea (which has chocolate in it) or this, the Christmas Tradition tea (which doesn’t have chocolate in it), I would probably choose this one!  There is something more complex and more unique that keeps my palate intrigued as I sip.  Both teas are really good, but, this one is more interesting to me.

Taster’s Review:

Well, I have to admit that I was a bit disappointed to find this in my bag marked Day 10 from Della Terra Teas.  As I mentioned previously when I contacted Della Terra Teas before I ordered this box, I was told that there would be one repeat (which was the Eight Candles tea) but we also had this tisane last year on the eleventh day.  I don’t think I would have been quite as disappointed if it had been a different tea, but, since rooibos blends aren’t my favorite to begin with, I feel just a little let down that this is a duplicate tea.

Not that this is a bad tisane, I liked it alright last year, and I’m sipping on it now and I’m enjoying it alright now.  But, I think that I would have been more delighted to try a tea that I haven’t yet tried from Della Terra Teas.

But this is still a tasty tisane.  I think I might be tasting a tad more cinnamon this time around than last year … and I’m definitely tasting rum again this year.  Perhaps it wasn’t my imagination back then!  It is creamy with an egg-y, vanilla-y, custard-y kind of taste as it’s prominent flavor, and just underneath that, I taste the cinnamon and spices, and then notes of rum.

A tasty treat for winter.

On the Eighth Day of Christmas, Della Terra Teas Sent Me This Tea …

Day Eight finds us revisiting an old favorite.  When I contacted Della Terra Teas this year to inquire about their 12 Days of Christmas collection, my question for them was would it be a different box than last year.  As many of you know, I used to do another 12 Days of Christmas countdown, however, with that company, I subscribe to their teas, so, all of the teas that are in the box are teas that I would have tried.  I wanted something NEW which is why I changed to this box from Della Terra Teas.  Don’t get me wrong, I love the other company too (Hey, I subscribe to them so that I get every tea they offer, I must love them, right?), but for the Christmas countdown is something that I want to be somewhat new and fresh whenever possible.

So, when Della Terra Teas got back to me – promptly too, I might add, they have great customer service! – and told me that all the teas would be new teas except for this one, I was OK with that … for one reason and one reason only.  The tea that this “old” tea is.

Taster’s Review:

I LOVE this tea.  This is – by far – my favorite tea from Della Terra Teas.  And based upon the response on Steepster, I’d say that I’m not the only one who thinks that this is a pretty amazing tea.  So, needless to say, I didn’t mind it when I was informed that this would be the one “old” tea in the collection.  I didn’t mind it a bit.

Since this was in last year’s 12 Days of Christmas Teas box from Della Terra Teas, I have reviewed it, so I don’t guess I need to review it again, do I?

But I will say that this tea is every bit as good as I remember it being.  Sweet, gooey, marshmallow-y happiness in a teacup!  One thing I did note about brewing this cup … there was some “oily” spots that rose to the top of the cup which I must admit are never appetizing to see, but, I was able to look past them.  If I were to change anything about this tea at all, it would be the oil slick, but, if that means that the flavor of the tea is changed, then forget about it, I’d rather see spots and enjoy the caramelized marshmallow-y joy that is this tea.

On the Twelfth Day of Christmas, Della Terra Teas Sent to Me …

Anyway, today’s shiny, bright green envie/box brought me this EXCLUSIVE tea from Della Terra Teas:

A Merry Christmas to all and to all a good night!

Day12-1Taster’s Review:

I was so excited when I opened today’s little package from Della Terra Teas!  I love Sugar Plums!  Well, actually, I’ve never tried the traditional type of Sugar Plum.  But, when I lived in Ridgefield (Washington), the little antique store in town sold some old time candy and during this time of year, they’d sell the Jelly Belly version of the Sugar Plum, and I loved those.  Well, to be honest, I love just about anything Jelly Belly … but I digress.

After tasting this, I suspect that this Sugar Plum Perfection is a bit more like the traditional Sugar Plum rather than the Jelly Belly version … but, that’s alright, because I’m enjoying this!  It’s a bit more spiced than it is a fruity tasting tea, but I do taste the notes of plum in there too … and I especially smell the plum when I lift my cup up to my lips to take a sip.  That smell is quite plum-y (and of course, spice)!  YUM!

The black tea is a fairly mellow tea here as it is not particularly prominent in the cup.  I mean, it’s obviously there, and I can taste it, but, it’s not a strong, distinct flavor.  I find that the tea notes develop on the palate a little as I continue to sip … but the spice and the fruit notes are the strongest flavors of this cup.  Normally, this would give me cause to take issue with the tea, but, this tastes so yummy that I find it difficult to complain about anything.  I like this a lot.

The spices (the most noteable of which is cinnamon) are pleasant and warming.  The plum flavor is sweet, and there is additional sweetness in this from little sparkly sugar crystals that have been added to the blend.  I also taste a floral note to this, and I find this to be quite appealing if for no other reason than it adds an interesting dimension to the overall cup.

What a perfect way to end this wonderful countdown to Christmas – the Della Terra Teas way!

On the Tenth Day of Christmas, Della Terra Teas Sent to Me …

Day10-1Day 10!

Taster’s Review:

A few weeks ago, when I started noticing others on Steepster talking about this tea, I had a pretty good idea that it would be part of Della Terra Teas’ 12 Days of Christmas box … which at that point I was EAGERLY awaiting its arrival!  But after opening nine envelope-y boxes containing teas that were not Candy Cane, I thought that maybe … just maybe … this tea wasn’t going to be in there.  I guess it just goes to show that good things come to those who wait.

Well, I didn’t waste any time brewing this tea … I could wait no longer!

Mmm!  It really does taste like a liquified candy cane that has been stirred into a cup of black tea.  The black tea is a little on the mellow side, or at least it seems so as the minty flavors and even the hints of creamy, vanilla-y notes tend to overshadow it.  That’s not really meant to sound like a complaint, because it isn’t one … the black tea is fine for what it is.  It’s just not overly robust or strongly flavored.  Here, the flavoring is doing most of the work … and what they’re producing is a delightful peppermint candy cane flavor!

But there’s more to this … there is more here than vanilla and peppermint … I taste … CHOCOLATE!  Yes indeed!  And I love this addition!  It adds to the creaminess and richness to this tea.  YUM!

candy caneThis picture shows a dry leaf with crushed candy cane and black leaves … and apparently Della Terra Teas has since changed that to the cutest little candy cane candies.  They look like miniature candy canes made for Squinkies toys.  Yes, of course I know what Squinkies are … I kept trying to get my young daughter into these (they’re so cute!) but she was more into Littlest Pet Shop … but I digress.

Anyway, it would seem that Della Terra Teas has changed this Candy Cane tea slightly – it used to be called “Candy Cane Lane” and it used to have crushed candy canes instead of these cute little tiny candy cane candies (these would look adorable on cupcakes … just sayin’).

But whatever changes they made, I have to think that they were made for the better, because what I’m tasting is pure candy cane bliss in my tea cup.  Sweet, creamy, minty … but not too much, and just a hint of chocolate too … This tea is a holiday delight!
