Taster’s Review:

When it comes to green yerba maté, I’m kind of on the fence.  I do not like it plain (that is, unflavored or not part of a blend) but some blends/flavors are quite alright, and I’ve even found one or two that are really tasty.

This one is tasty!  It has a strong ginger taste to it (if you don’t like ginger, this tea isn’t for you!  Fortunately, I love ginger.) and that ginger tempers some of the stronger earthy notes of the maté that I usually find a bit off-putting.

This blend is actually quite masala chai-like in composition.  The ingredients include ginger, cinnamon and cardamom, three very standard marsala chai spices.  But, because it’s more ginger than cinnamon and cardamom, I don’t think I would categorize this as a chai.

This is one intensely flavored tea!  The first flavors that hit are the strong earthy, vegetative notes from the yerba maté and the peppery flavor of the ginger.  That initial “bam” (imagine Emeril Lagasse sound clip there) of flavor lasts for about a split second, and then it tapers off to a very pleasant, smooth sweet-and-spicy taste from the ginger and cinnamon, with the cardamom popping in just long enough to say “hello.”   I can taste the sweet snap of the licorice root linger in the aftertaste.

I am really pleased with this blend.  I thought it was just going to be “eh, ok” but as it turns out, I’m enjoying it.  It is also extremely soothing to a sore throat, so it is a good tea to keep on hand for times when you might be feeling under the weather.  Not only soothing, but the yerba maté gives a little energy boost – which is also nice because, I don’t know about you, but when I’m not feeling well, I really need a little extra something.  This is like “chicken soup” in a teacup!

Tasters Review:

Cherry Bomb Tea from Compass Teas smells great before, during, and after infusion…just like Cherry Candy or Juice, even!  This is really good if you like Cherry and I do…so ROCK ON!  Speaking of ROCKIN’ – I could resist adding a song/video to this post so don’t don’t forget to scroll down.

The Hibiscus is barely there and thank the tea gods for that – as many of you know my feelings about Hibiscus! It seems to be more there to just open doors for the rest of the ingredients and isn’t the leader of the pack!  Eventho this is VERY Cherry tasting – you can still taste the GREEN TEA.

I couldn’t post this review without accompanying it with a very fitting song…ENJOY your tea and ENJOY a little John Cougar Mellencamp!

Tasters Review:

What DOESN’T this blend have?  Just Peachy from Compass Teas is a mix of black, white, oolong, yerba mate, peach flavoring, and flowers! Normally that would make me nervous…but whatever mathematician came up with the percentages for this combo is pure genius!  EVERYTHING makes sense in this blend. All of the ingredients jive nicely and smell/taste yummy together!  It’s truly peachy but it’s more than that and with all of the different teas – black, oolong, white, and Yerba Mate it’s LOADED with health benefits!

This tea was a nice surprise and another awesome mix of flavors from Compass Teas!  And there’s LOTS more where this came from!

Maté Carnival from Chado Tea

Tea Information:

Leaf Type:  Roasted Yerba Maté

Where to Buy:  Chado Tea Room

Company Description:

Raosted mate, cocoa, rooibos, sunflower, cactus, cornflowers and almonds. Coffee substitute, great with milk. Perfect of American Breakfast. Must Try!

Taster’s Review:

This is a pleasant yet rather unusual yerba maté blend.  I am really enjoying it!

Roasted yerba maté and chocolate really complement each other very well.  The combination of the deep, toasty, earthy flavor of the yerba maté and the rich, smooth chocolate is just so decadent and yummy!

There is a faint sharpness to this cup as well, and I attribute that to the sunflower.  It is very faint, though, and might otherwise be missed if you’re not trying to find it.  The almonds and chocolate – being a classic flavor combination – work well together in this blend as well.

I can also detect the woodsy rooibos flavor, but, again, this isn’t strong enough to really compete with the stronger, pungent flavor of the maté.  I am not really sure what contribution the cactus makes to the overall flavor of this tisane, although there is a fruit note to this tea that I cannot otherwise place.  Perhaps that is the cactus?  I can’t say for sure, but I don’t think that this blend would be quite the same without the cactus.

I’ve tried a couple of chocolate flavored maté blends, but this one stands alone because it has a more complex flavor to it – perhaps because of the rooibos, or the almonds, or the sunflower, or even the cactus.  Or, maybe it’s because of all of these components and how well they work together in this cup.

I really like it.
