Taster’s Review:
Jinggu Imperial Yue Guang Bai White Tea from Yunnan Sourcing is one of those teas shrouded in mystery. Moonlight white teas are not well understood in the west. Sometimes mistaken for puerh in the way that it is processed, often air dried the same way as maocha. The name frequently describing Yue Guang Bai, Moonlight White tea alludes to the air dry process. The common lore goes that this tea is only air dried at night, under a full moon. Knowing all this, my only question is: “Am I drinking werewolf tea?”
Regardless of what mythical creature this tea really is trying to be, I am really enjoying it thoroughly. The leaves look like a mix of Bai Mu Dan and Bai Hao Yin Zhen. There are smooth, fuzzy silver noodles of buds, as well as larger, flat leaves with a black backside and a silvery down covering a light golden top leaf. The smell of this dry leaf is like roaming through a wild prairie field; I smell stronger notes of hay, as well as light wildflower hints. I typically use 5 grams when I go gongfu, but 5 grams of this leaf filled up almost all of my 150ml glass gaiwan. This is some big fluffy leaf!
You can extract different flavor profiles from the leaf just by changing the temperature. I started with cool water, about 65C, the result was a sweet and floral brew. The light colored liquor had notes of melon, lilies and wildflowers. Which was nice, but I wanted to punch up the flavor a bit, so I began steeping at 90C, which produced wildly different results. What I got was a much darker brew, a rich amber. Tasting the brew I discovered a strong bread malt note as well as hay. The floral was still there, but much more subdued. It was much different than the cool water method I had used. It was like I was drinking a different tea!
I can highly recommend this white tea for anyone who loves white already, or someone who wants to start treading water of the white tea train. It’s a solid tea worth trying!

Taster’s Review:
Lemon-Lime Iced White Tea from Southern Boy Teas … not the most innovative flavor combination out there, but, I do like the combination of lemon and lime.
There is a delicate, creamy, lightly sweet flavor to the Shou Mei tea that gives the tart, tangy notes of the citrus some contrast. The lemon and lime flavors are strong enough to be tasted, but delicate enough to allow the white tea to shine through.
It’s crisp and refreshing. It’s tart and a little bit sweet, too. Is it my favorite iced tea flavor from SBT? No, I can’t say that it is. But, it is tasty. It has a really light, refreshing taste that I enjoy and I think that this would be a real crowd pleaser – perfect to serve at your next family BBQ!

Taster’s Review:
Yum! This Streusel Topping Iced White Tea from Southern Boy Teas tastes so much like a muffin top, all that’s missing is the blueberries (or whatever muffin you might be eating). But I’m not missing blueberries because this is so tasty that I forget that I generally take my muffins with blueberries.
But since there are no blueberries in my muffin top, I might suggest that this tastes a bit more like a crumb doughnut. You know the mini doughnuts that come in packages of six? I taste top notes of brown sugar, and those notes almost taste caramelized. The cinnamon isn’t overpowering. And I get just enough of the butter and cake-like flavors to make this glass of iced tea taste like something other than just another cinnamon tea.
The Shou Mei base is an ideal choice for the flavors of cinnamon, brown sugar, and buttery, cake-y pastry. The white tea is delicate enough to allow these flavors to be experienced but not so light in flavor that I can’t taste the tea. Southern Boy Teas has achieved a delicious balance with this blend.
It’s a really refreshing iced tea and a very cooling beverage to drink, which is especially nice as the weather gets warmer.

Taster’s Review:
Mmm! I must admit that I wasn’t as much a fan of the White Chocolate Raspberry Shou Mei from a couple of months ago as I thought I would be. I thought I’d love that blend and it was just alright for me. My daughter – with whom I’m going into business – loved it. I expected her to because that’s probably her favorite flavor combination, or at least one of them.
But this White Chocolate Lemon Shou Mei Tea from 52Teas – I’m loving this! Similar to the White Chocolate Raspberry, this is primarily a lemon tea. That is to say, I taste more lemon than I do white chocolate. But I taste enough white chocolate to satisfy me, and I like the way the sweet, creamy notes of the white chocolate soften the tangy notes of the lemon and highlight the creaminess of the Shou Mei base.
And the Shou Mei isn’t hidden behind the flavors either. I taste the light, slightly earthy, slightly hay-like flavor of the Shou Mei. This tea has some really wonderful layers of flavor.
This tea is best if you let it cool slightly. After pouring the piping hot tea into your cup, let it set for just a few minutes. This seems to let the flavors come forth and now that I’m nearly finished with the cup I notice even more lemony notes as well as a stronger white chocolate presence.
A really good tea. One of the better white teas that I’ve tried from 52Teas!

I’m back to tell you a little more about this campaign – why? Well, because we need YOUR support!
This campaign is about something that’s near and dear to my heart – something that I’m very passionate about: Tea! If you’ve been reading my reviews for any length of time, you’re probably well aware of the fact that I love 52Teas.
I love the idea behind it! I love the plan to make a brand new tea flavor every week: 52 teas a year. That’s just awesome. For someone who is creative – the idea is like Christmas morning! Which flavor to create next?
It allows that kind of freedom. It allows me to create some amazing tea flavors that you won’t find anywhere else. Some of the flavors that I’ve got ‘steeping’ in my brain are: Watermelon Mint Limeade, Mango Sticky Rice Custard Genmaicha and Lemon Cheesecake Bar Houjicha. That’s not even the tip of the iceberg!
We’ll also be reblending some of the classic 52Teas favorites like Maple Cheesecake TieGuanYin and Graveyard Mist!
I’ll also be bringing back some of my classic blends from when I ran LiberTEAS. Teas like Sweet Caramel O’Mine and Masterpiece Chai.
And now that I’m teaming up with my daughter, Amethyst, I know that we have the tools that we need to make this venture a success. With her business sense and my creativity, I’m confident that we’ll be creating some amazing teas that you’ll LOVE!
So please, if you haven’t yet contributed to our campaign – please click here now and help this mother/daughter team make this project happen!
Thank you!
