Athlete’s Recovery Organic Black Tea / Fraser Tea

Never judge a tea by it’s look or smell.

This one smells like shampoo. It’s really throwing me off. It’s not a bad smell though.

A natural, sweet, and somewhat floral scent. The wet leaves have the same aroma as well. The liquid is dark amber, a pretty typical black tea color. The flavor is unlike anything I’ve tasted for a black tea before. With each minute that passes the Turmeric becomes stronger.

It has citrus and floral scents with a fruity whisper. After an hour or so of snowing some heavy snow this tea is exactly what I needed. It boasts itself as a recovery tea and with ingredients like turmeric and ginger I can see why.

Whether you just worked out, just woke up, or need a lift I highly suggest you give this one a try.

Heavenly Hip Hibiscus from Now Real Tea. . . .

Natural Grocers had this hibiscus herbal punch tea on sale so I just had to try it. It was mean to be as I had just been reading about all of the health benefits of hibiscus tea. Although I have had hibiscus tea, I’ve only had either straight hibiscus tea or a green tea/hibiscus combination.

This is hibiscus punch, and it has hibiscus flowers along with rose hips, lemongrass leaves, spearmint leaves, cinnamon bark, wild cherry bark, orange peel, and natural cherry flavor. All of the flavors blend really well. It sounds kind of like a strange mixture but it really works! It’s kind of tart, and a little sweet with a little touch of cinnamon.

I’m having mine as an iced tea. I tend to think of and like my punches cold. But I bet this would make a nice little evening drink to warm up and unwind. Even though it’s definitely winter weather where I live, I’ve still been enjoying this as an iced tea. But I was just thinking as I took a sip how refreshing this will be on a super hot summer day.

I find hibiscus to be really refreshing when you’re overheated. Since I’ve become a tea drinker, it’s been really interesting to learn the health benefits of different teas. Hibiscus is sooooo good for you.

Here is an article explaining some of the benefits.  If you see this tea, try it. It’s really refreshing and the fact that it’s good for you makes it even better!

Orange Dreamsicle from Wise Ape Tea Co. . .

I have searched and for the most part in vain- for a tea that tasted like an orange dreamsicle.  Growing up, that was my favorite summer treat so to have a tea to remember those summer childhood memories without the calories, well that would be just dandy!

Upon first sniff, this tea smells all sorts of citrus and vanilla.  I couldn’t wait to see if the sweet alluring aromas matched how this tea would taste.

Brewed with fresh prepped water and allowed to brew for about 5 minutes, I eagerly took my first sip and WOW! This tea pops of fresh orange and vanilla creamy like notes with this gorgeous herbaceous undertone.  First you get a true orange flavor, nothing artificial or chemical tasting, with this swirling lush vanilla twist with this chamomile herbal finish.  Sip after beautiful sip, this tea is perfection in a cup!

This tea tastes exactly like it should with a name like Orange Dreamsicle with a chamomile finish that I’m adoring.  If you haven’t experienced teas from Wise Ape Tea, I highly encourage you to.  Their teas are fresh, full of flavor, and are good for you.   Each blend has special herbs and inclusions that help make these teas more like what I consider wellness teas.  A lot of these teas in this category really do not have the best flavor, but these blends just hit the spot. Plus, these teas all benefit different charities with how Wise Ape Tea Co pays it forward.

I’ve always been a big fan of their Chocolate Hustle and now with the new teas added to the line up, I adore them even  more!  I can’t wait to cold brew this delight for those hot summer days right around the corner.

Chocolate Hustle from Wise Ape. . . . .

My introduction to Wise Ape’s Chocolate Hustle tea was a sister suggesting we brew it cold, in coconut milk… all of which I had no idea was even possible but wow, such a great idea for lazy mornings!!! This has since overturned my ugh totally “basic” hot water regimen. I was tempted this morning to liven up my bland, healthy cereal by putting it in here, but the scientist in me needed to have a control group first before I went too far down the rabbit hole testing the bounds of FLAVOR! (Cue that stoned cook from Blake Lively’s movie, Acceptance.)

Overnight the creamy liquid turned cocoa colored,  though I saw no obvious powders in the sachet, a la the matcha plus tea leaves trend. It also definitely smells like chocolate but tastes more earthy with a hint of true mint. Oh, it’s a maté blend, that explains it. I bet hot brewed in milk would perk up more flavor. The sweet coconut taste seems to overpower some of the other flavors, let’s see what else is in here. Oh chicory goodness! Hmmm ashwagandha… but I didn’t dislike it like other mind boosting teas. Stevia?! That normally tastes “off” with chocolate recipes but I don’t notice that in this concoction.

I can’t say I necessarily felt Planet of the Apes wiser, but it did boost my alertness during my carb-coma 3 hour block of post-lunch Biology slide shows! I’m learning our bodies can be unpredictable, but fortunately advances in science can help us live full, worthwhile lives. Another great note: A portion of their profits is donated to the brain tumor society. I HIGHLY recommend trying this tea, and that’s not the cook from Acceptance talking again.

Happy from Wild Leaf Active Teas

Happy blend from Wild Leaf Active Teas is described as a stress-buster meant to lift your mood and brighten your day. This herbal blend features chamomile, rose petals, and lemon myrtle as the main flavor profiles though there are other ingredients like tulsi basil as well.

This tea is driven by its chamomile base, with lots of gentle lemon-honey herbal flavors, made even sweeter with a bit of stevia in the blend.  The rose petals are gentle, much to my relief, and add just a breeze of floral tones without getting too much like perfume.

I detect a some of the greener and earthier undertones from the tulsi basil, though I might have missed it if I weren’t looking for it. I wish there was a little more tulsi to help add some variety with all the sweet lemon and honey flavor.

This is a delicate blend, gentle and easygoing.

When you want the relaxation that comes from chamomile but want a blend with a little more floral flair, try Happy blend from Wild Leaf.
