Turmeric Blend from Storehouse Teas. . . . .

You may have already done the math and came to the conclusion that there are at least a few of us who are CRAZY for Turmeric here at the SororiTea Sisters and I for one can be found in that mix of CRAZIES! And I’m darn proud of it!

If you are looking to incorporate more Turmeric into your daily routine or if you are just looking for herbal tisanes – overall – this Turmeric Blend from Storehouse Teas – is for you!

Organic Turmeric, Organic cinnamon, Organic orange peel, Organic ginger, Organic black pepper are the only ingredients and the only ingredients NEEDED might I add!

The orange peels is what gives in an extra sweet-citrus punch and rise above some of the other Turmeric Blends I have tried from other companies. I’m wondering if my husband would like this in Orange Juice? Just might have to try that!

This – by itself – is pretty incredible in its own right. It’s spicy, it’s juicy, it’s peppery. It gets you up and on your toes! That’s for sure! Two thumbs up!

Gunpowder Green from The Tea Spot. . . . .

I found out today that gunpowder green teas are called “gunpowder” because they’re a little smoky — not because they’re going to violently pop open when they unfurl. Which is sort of disappointing, because I wanted to watch some sort of mayhem in my steeper this morning.

I also found out, while locating this tea on the Tea Spot’s site, that gunpowder tea is “commonly used by athletes to improve endurance over periods of 3-6 hours.”

Well, then, this tea has found its audience, because I am a HUGE ATHLETE. Like, super-beefy. I spend upwards of 8 hours a day hitting “file, print” on my computer. Gotta keep my PRINT ARM strong. Then, at the end of ALL THAT, I go to my local Planet Fitness and halfheartedly put forth about 20-30 minutes on the elliptical. Sometimes. About twice a week.

But there I go, talking about being SUCH A JOCK ALL THE TIME. This is about the tea.

Visuals: This tea comes in cute little pellets. I pity the person that has to sit there and twist them, but the effect is awesome. This tea is a wonderful unfurler. It bounces open in a really satisfying way.

Flavor: This taste profile is just like the movie Fern Gully: the Last Rainforest. It tastes like rich chlorophyll, like sun distilled across leaves, thriving, growing.

I used to think that “vegetal” was a bad word. Veggies are the thing you have to be FORCED to eat, right? What person innately comes out of the womb wanting greens?

But I’ve come around. I like brussels sprouts and broccoli. I’ll throw greenery on my plate on purpose. It’s not sweet, but it’s healthy, and it’s RIGHT, somehow.

This tea is totally right like veggies belong on the plate now for me. It’s the balance of the feminine green-ness with the faint masculine smokiness. It is yin, it is yang.

I feel like I’d be drinking this in a zen garden in the middle of a forest before teaching my Young Grasshopper calligraphy and battle skills. I have no battle skills in real life, but this tea makes me think that maybe I could develop them.

Leaf Type:  Green Tea
Where to Buy:  The Tea Spot
Description

The leaves of this green tea are rolled into the shape of little pinhead pellets resembling gunpowder, hence its name. Gunpowder green tea tastes bold & lightly smoky, also lending to its name. Gunpowder tea leaves stay fresh longer than any other green tea leaves due to its compressed form. Gunpowder green is higher in caffeine than most other green teas (35-40 mg/8 oz serving) and is commonly used by athletes to improve endurance over periods of 3-6 hours.

Roasted Dandelion Root from Traditional Medicinals. . . . .

I have been drinking Yogi teas spiced dandelion tea and really enjoying it. I decided to give this roasted dandelion tea a try. I was a little nervous that I wouldn’t enjoy it without the spicy flavor. I had no reason to worry, this tea is really delicious on it’s own. It has a delicious roasted, nutty flavor with just a slight bitterness. As a former coffee drinker, this tea kind of fills that void. It has a little more depth than other teas and kind of reminds me of coffee. But it is caffeine free, so it can be enjoyed at any time of the day.

Dandelion tea is so good for you. It helps detox the liver, and it is really good for digestion. I have noticed a big improvement with my digestion since I started drinking it. I try to get in one to two cups a day when possible.

If you were or are a coffee lover, I imagine you would really enjoy this tea. I think the key to cutting out a lot of the bitterness from the dandelion is roasting it. It tempers the bitterness and just gives it a delicious nutty taste. I have mine with a little bit of sugar and lately I’ve been using a vegan hazelnut creamer which compliments the nuttiness so well. I especially enjoy this tea when I’m dreaming of coffee and wishing I hadn’t given it up.

I’m really glad I’ve been expanding my tea collection. I used to only drink green tea, and making the decision to cut back on my caffeine consumption has really made me get brave and experiment and I am so happy, and my body is too!

Chai Rooibos from Yogi Tea. . . . .

I absolutely love Yogi teas. I love the little uplifting messages on the tea bags, and I’ve never had a flavor I haven’t loved. I also love Chai tea. I’ve been cutting back my caffeine intake, with the goal to completely cut it out of my life. I was kind of nervous to try this at first because I don’t always love Rooibos. I usually drink it for the health benefits, but sometimes I find it a little too earthy for me. But Yogi teas were on a great sale at Natural Grocers so I felt brave enough to try this.

What can I say, it was love at first sip! The delicious blend of spices like cardamom, cinnamon, cloves and ginger really stand up and mask the earthiness of the rooibos leaves. It’s spicy, warming and soothing. And the earthiness of the rooibos actually compliments the spices. The tea is a lovely red hue which for some reason made it even more enjoyable to me. The spiciness is there, but not overpowering. I would call this a Chai for beginners. It wouldn’t scare away someone new to Chai.

And because it’s so similar to standard Chai made with black tea, I didn’t feel like I was missing anything. And the aromatherapy woke up my senses without the caffeine. I’m very glad I tried this brew, and I will be buying it again and again. It’s a delicious, hearty and warming cup of tea that’s perfect for anytime of the day. Rooibos has so many health benefits such as aiding in digestion, anti aging, and has many minerals including calcium!!

Green Defense from Tocha Tea. . . . . .

Every time I look at this tea’s name — “Green Defense” — I automatically change it in my mind to “Green Defense Against The Dark Arts.” You know, a tea that Harry Potter would drink to fortify himself against mind attacks from Voldemort.

Tocha Tea’s site says that this tea “stimulates your senses while supporting overall wellness.” The description is unclear about the use of the word “defense.” Is it a defense against… sickness? Sadness? Malaise? ENNUI?*

* (“Ennui” is a favorite word in my very nerdy family. It’s a French term that means “existential dread” and/or “boredom with one’s very existence.”)

So anyway, whether it’s ennui or wizards, this tea’s going to help you out. I didn’t research this tea before drinking it, but I’m to the point where I realized very quickly it was a jasmine green tea. (So proud. I’m growing up so fast.) Jasmine green tea has that very distinctive flavor that I associate with “going to the Chinese restaurant and ordering tea.”

This tea, however, is much classier than the stuff they give you at the Chinese restaurant. It has a deeper, richer flavor profile. It tastes like a liquid version of the metal bronze, mixed with the joy of the library in Beauty and the Beast. (Am I the only person who saw that scene as a child and gasped in wonder? Even as an adult, Belle is my princess. The Nerd Princess.) If it were a font, it’d be a tasteful serif font like Mrs Eaves. (I’ll wait while you look that up.)

I am having a fairly interesting day, medically (sort of dizzy for some reason?), so I’ve got my fingers crossed that this tea will defend me against that. We’ll have to keep an eye out.

We’ll also have to keep an eye out for dark magic. If I get attacked by a Death Eater and survive, I promise to write a follow-up post to this praising this tea even further.
