Taster’s Review:

What a surprising Ceylon!  I have been surprised by Ceylon teas in the past, but, I don’t think I’ve been this astounded by a Ceylon – it’s blowing me away!

The leaves are probably the largest Ceylon leaves I’ve yet to see.  They are long and twisted, and they unfurl slowly (they were not completely unfurled after my first infusion, and insisted that I infuse them a second time!)

The flavor is sweet with hints of fruit in the background.  It isn’t a tea that I would classify as robust, but it does have a sense of strength to it.  There is some astringency to this cup, but not much.

While this rather exceptional Ceylon isn’t as bold as say, an Assam or Keemun might be; instead, this is a smooth, well-rounded cup that is sure to please the most discerning palate.

The second infusion is even better than the first, in my opinion.  I find that the fruit tones have mellowed a bit, becoming softer, sweeter and smoother.   I highly recommend indulging in a second infusion with this tea!  It’s well worth the effort.

A very satisfying cup of Ceylon!

Tahitian Breeze From Téanzo 1856

Delight your senses with the tropical aroma of coconut blended with the flavors of chocolate and vanilla. Your palate will come alive with this union of black and rooibos teas.  The blending of the two teas, makes it a “half-caf” tea, since the rooibos portion doesn’t contain caffeine.

Taster’s Review:

This is delicious.  It is very well-balanced, with each flavor represented well without one ingredient attempting to overpower the others.

The first flavor I notice is the chocolate.  It is strong … and yes, the chocoholic in me says it could be stronger, but I think that the amount of chocolate here works well.  The coconut flavor sort of weaves its way in and out of the sip, providing it’s creamy sweet flavor.  There is but a hint of vanilla in this blend, but, it is just enough to accent the other flavors.

The black tea is a flavorful black tea – it isn’t particularly bold but it holds its own.  The rooibos are probably the least noticeable of the flavors in this cup, but that’s alright with me.  They do add a bit of nutty flavor to the background, but, really, what I think they do more than anything is help to lighten the overall cup.  I think that the rooibos displaces some of the black tea, which if it were stronger it would overwhelm the flavors of chocolate, coconut and vanilla.  The rooibos seems to be there to keep everything else in check.

A very pleasant tea that is light enough to enjoy any time of the day!

London Fog from Téanzo 1856

Taster’s Review:

What a delightful spin on the well-loved tea beverage found at that coffee shop.  You know which one I’m talking about.  Well, to be honest, I haven’t consumed many London Fog Lattes from that coffee shop (why go to a coffee shop and spend $5 on a tea beverage when I can stay at home and sip on better tasting teas for much less), however, I am willing to go out on a limb here and say that I prefer this to those London Fog Lattes.

Why?  Well, first off, I like that I can choose how strong I make this, and how much steamed milk and sweetener to add.  At the moment, I’m drinking this non-latte, and I think I like it even better like this than with the milk, because I’m able to enjoy the complex flavors of the tea, the bergamot, the vanilla AND the almond…

Which leads me to the second reason that I prefer this to the London Fog Latte at that coffee shop.  This version from Téanzo 1856 is not only flavored with bergamot and vanilla cream, but also almond!  And I love the sweet, nutty flavor that the almond brings to the party.  It offers more creamy flavor … and this is so creamy and rich tasting that it really doesn’t need the steamed milk.  It tastes so good straight up.

The black tea base is not as strong as some Earl Grey blends I’ve tried, but, it manages to hold its own and provide a pleasant background of black tea flavor that compliments the tangy notes of bergamot and especially the sweet notes of almond and vanilla.

This is the first tea I’ve tried from this new company, and it’s a winner as far as I’m concerned!  If you like those London Fog Lattes, I think you’re going to love this London Fog from Téanzo 1856!
