Taster’s Review:
I’m generally pleasantly surprised when I come across a rooibos blend that I enjoy. And really, I don’t know why I should be surprised anymore, as I tend to find more that I actually DO enjoy versus those that I do not like. But usually, the blends that I do like are ones where the flavorings have managed to mask the flavor of the rooibos in such a way that it obscures the flavor of the rooibos entirely. It’s a more startling discovery, though, when I come across a rooibos blend where I can actually taste the flavor of the rooibos and I’m still enjoying what I’m tasting.
But this Love rooibos blend from TeaFrog has managed to do just that. I can taste the nutty flavor of the rooibos, and it works really well within this blend. The nutty flavor adds depth to the sweet, luscious orange notes and the lovely floral tones, without coming off as too funky or sweet. Instead, it is very evenly flavored and has a richness that I don’t often find with rooibos (which usually tend to taste kind of thin).
This is nice served hot, but I like it even better cold! I had intended on drinking it hot this evening, but, after taking a few sips of it, I got busy doing something and when I returned to my teacup, the beverage had gone cold. Rather than toss it, I added an ice cube or two, and sipped on this deliciously orange-y, nutty tisane. I like the balance, I like that I can taste the rooibos without tasting some of the funkier flavors of the rooibos, and I like that while it is sweet, it isn’t too sweet. Very enjoyable, indeed!
Cream Earl Grey from TeaFrog
Leaf Type: Black
Where to Buy: TeaFrog
Company Description:
This version of Earl Grey will suit the tastes of both traditional EG drinkers, and those who find bergamot to be too overpowering. Vanilla overtones and a smooth, creamy taste are in the forefront of the flavours of this tea, and while the bergamot is there, it takes a backup role in this fine flavoured black tea. Whether you are a fan of Earl Grey Tea or not, this tea will suit the palate of any discerning tea drinker, and serves well as an after dinner finishing drink or a mid-afternoon “snack”.
Ingredients: Black Tea, Cornflower petals, Natural Flavours
Taster’s Review:
I love Earl Grey tea. But, I have to tell you that my fondness for Earl Grey started out with a Cream Earl Grey such as this one. The first time I tasted an Earl Grey tea, I found that the bergamot was a bit overpowering for me – to the point of tasting a bit like perfume (or at least what I imagined perfume would taste like). After that unpleasant experience, I was quite hesitant to try another Earl Grey.
Then I discovered Cream Earl Grey tea and I quickly fell in love. So much so that I began blending my own Earl Grey Creme… but that’s another story!
This Cream Earl Grey from TeaFrog is quite good. I love the way the vanilla flavoring (the “Cream”) mingles with the bergamot and black tea. Together they create an almost caramel-y taste that lingers well into the finish.
The black tea base is a solid black tea: strong but not overwhelming, smooth with a bold, bright taste. It has a medium astringency to it that is somewhat dry. No bitterness to this tea, though (unless it’s over-steeped that is!) Just a delicious, well-rounded tea.
The bergamot is significantly softer than you would find in most Earl Grey teas, but that’s because the vanilla cream taste softens it. I like that it curbs the sharp notes of the bergamot, thereby eliminating that tendency to taste a bit soapy or perfume-ish. Instead, you just get delicious Earl Grey flavor with a sweet, creamy high note.
This is a really delicious Cream Earl Grey – if you’re like me and rather fond of Earl Grey (or Cream Earl Grey) – this is one you should definitely try.
Tulsi Harmony from TeaFrog
Leaf Type: Herbal & Rooibos
Where to Buy: TeaFrog
Company Description:
Tulsi Herb, Rooibos, Ginger Bits, Cinnamon, Lemon Verbena, Chamomile Blossoms, Lavender, Rose Petals
Taster’s Review:
Wow! This is good! Surprisingly good!
Why surprising? Well, here’s the thing – I ordered this because it sounded different. I liked the name. Tulsi Harmony. But the truth of the matter is, I have only tried a couple of tulsi teas/tisanes, and while I enjoyed them quite a bit, tulsi still scares me just a little bit.
I don’t know why it scares me, it just does.
Well, hopefully this tisane will put my fears to rest and let me celebrate tulsi! Because this is so good.
The tulsi is the strongest flavor here – and it lends a somewhat spicy character to the cup that is similar to cloves. The ginger is very soft here, offering mere hints of its characteristic peppery nature. The cinnamon is a little stronger, and it is a sweet yet spicy cinnamon. These spicy notes are not over-the-top or in-your-face spicy, rather, they are quite … harmonious!
The rooibos is one flavor that is lacking in the cup. I am not getting a lot of rooibos rather distinctive woodsy/nutty flavor. But, as I’m not a huge fan of the woodsy flavor of rooibos, I am not missing it.
I can, however, distinguish the other flavors here – the chamomile, the lavender, the rose and the lemon verbena. These aren’t strong contributions to the overall cup, but, I can taste subtle hints of each ingredient. And I think that is what I like best about this tisane. It has a complexity that is rather uncommon in tisanes. It offers an interesting and delicious taste. I’m very glad I decided to try this today!
Chocolate and Ginger Spice from TeaFrog
Leaf Type: Spice Melange
Where to Buy: TeaFrog
Company Description:
Ingredients: Chicory Roasted, Chocolate Pieces, Cacao Pieces, Red Peppercorns, Ginger Pieces
Taster’s Review:
This is one of the most unusual spice “melange” teas/tisanes that I’ve come across. The chocolate flavor is sweet yet savory, and the spices enhance that savory experience.
I’m getting peppery, warm spice taste, as well as deep, roasted flavor. I like the way these tastes come together… it is spicy, but not too spicy… sweet, but not too sweet. And the roasty-toasty flavor that I’m getting from the chicory is more of a background note, so it doesn’t overwhelm the other flavors.
And then there is the CHOCOLATE! And that is what attracted me to this blend in the first place. The chocolate is rich and is what I would call a mix of semi-sweet chocolate morsels and a high quality cocoa powder. Just enough bitter, just enough sweet, just enough savory to make this a delightful chocolate-y cocoa experience!
If I were to change anything about this particular blend, I’d add more chocolate. Perhaps some cacao shells? This would really add some deep, rich, chocolate flavor.
But, other than wanting more chocolate (and I ALWAYS want more chocolate) I really like the way this melange comes together. It’s a nice fusion of flavors!

Love Flavored Rooibos from TeaFrog smells like Orange Juice and Rooibos! And it tastes like it too! I must say this is delightful!
I try and have at least one rooibos a day and a while back I declared this my ROOIBOS OF THE DAY!
It has a real rich brown/reddish color to it and even tho I have been drinking this hot I am sure it’s just as good cold!!!
This is a highly flavored Rooibos!
TeaFrog did a GREAT job with this one and I totally understand why they sell out of it at every show!
