Taster’s Review:

This is awesome!  A real treat for the taste buds as well as the eye and nose!

The dry leaf is beautiful.  Not only are there long spears of green tea leaves in this (Sencha, perhaps?) but there are also jasmine pearls.  In addition to the two different types of green tea, there is an abundance of petals and blossoms, as well as pieces of citrus peel.  This not only looks beautiful, but it smells amazing too.

But none of that would really matter if it didn’t also taste good… and this does.   The addition of the pearls help to give this blend a really beautiful jasmine essence.  The jasmine is light and sweet, with hints of floral sharpness.

The green tea is a fresh, clean taste.  It is slightly grassy, but mostly what I taste is that sweet, exhilarating freshness.  It marries well with the lively citrus notes and the exotic jasmine flavor.

And as much as I’m enjoying the flavors of jasmine and green tea, the real star of this cup is the tangerine flavor.  It is sweet with just the right amount of “tang” to it.  Those tangy notes add a very intriguing contrast to the cup that is also sweet and floral.

I have tasted this tea a few times now, and I have to say that while it is delicious hot (and it is!) … it is even better iced.  It becomes pure, light, crisp refreshment in a glass.

And now through the 28th of August,  Daily Gourmet is offering of 50% savings on the Ovation Teas Summer Set of Teas.  This collection includes this thirst-quenching tea – as well as four other spectacular teas!  Don’t miss out on this special offer!

Tangerine White Tea from Tea Licious

Tea Information:

Leaf Type:  White

Where to Buy:  Tea Licious

Product Description:

Pai Mu Tan with tangerine.

Taster’s Review:

Flavored white teas are often “hit and miss” for me.  That’s because quite often the delicate flavor of the white tea is overpowered by the flavoring.  Careful use of flavoring is needed to keep a balance of flavor.

This Tangerine White Tea from Tea Licious hits the nail on the head for me.  The flavoring is strong here, and it tastes sweet and sunny like a blend of tangerine and orange.  But it is not so strong that I cannot taste white tea.

The white tea base is a Pai Mu Tan (which is also known as Bai Mu Dan), and these leaves are of good quality – evidenced by the softness of the leaves and the fluffy white down that covers them.  The flavor is sweet, fresh and light with hints of grassy tones and hay-like flavor in the background.

This tea has an surprisingly bright flavor to it for such a delicate composition.  It is delicious served hot but even better when iced.  It is so refreshing and cooling, even on the warmest of days.

I do recommend trying it at least once hot so that you can get the best definition of flavor from it.  As it cools, the flavors do mute just a little, so when chilling it, I do recommend a pinch of sweetener to it to enhance the flavors a little bit.  Not much, just a pinch will do the trick.  This one should be a real hit during the warm weather months!

Orange Grapefruit from Fusion Tea Room

Tea Information:

Leaf Type:  Fruit/Herbal

Where to Buy:  Fusion Tea Room

Product Description:

This mild creation is given fruity sweetness by the apple pieces and carrot flakes and a touch of freshness by eucalyptus leaves, lemon grass, tangerine bits and a nuance of hibiscus. Dried Orange slices are an optical reminder of the fresh citrus flavor of this absolutely perfect composition.

Taster’s Review:

This is a delightful surprise!  I had expected this tisane to be very tart, but, it really isn’t.  It is a little tangy, but not what I would call tart.  Instead it is mild and refreshing and deliciously sweet!

The hibiscus is so very light here and seems to offer nothing more than color and texture to the cup.  Together with the beetroot, this brews to a vibrant, plum-red color.

The flavor of the hibiscus is masked by the bright flavor of citrus.  And that’s just fine with me!  The overall flavor is a pleasing balance of orange and grapefruit.  There are lingering hints of tangerine and I can taste the crisp notes of eucalyptus in the distance.

The apple, carrot and beetroot provide a sweet base for the citrus fruits and help to curb their sometimes sour tendencies while enhancing their natural sweetness.

This tisane would be a big hit at a little girl’s tea party.  The color is sure to please and the sweet ambrosial flavor will have them begging for more!  This one’s a winner!

Little Black Dress Pink Grapefruit from Teaquilibrium

Tea Information:

Leaf Type:  Oolong

Where to Buy:  Teaquilibrium

Product Description

Teaquilibrium’s Pink Grapefruit is bold refreshing. The colorful combination of citrus and eucalyptus make LBD Pink Grapefruit delicious iced.

ingredients: oolong tea, apple pieces, carrot flakes, blackberry leaves, eucalyptus leaves, beetroot, hibiscus, lemon grass, natural flavor, freeze-dried tangerine pieces, orange slices.

Taster’s Review:

I’m really liking this blend!

After reading through the ingredients, I was a little worried about the combination of hibiscus and Oolong tea, I worried that the somewhat thick, syrupy nature of the hibiscus might interfere with the lovely texture of the Oolong, but, that didn’t happen here.  The hibiscus seems to do very little in this blend – thankfully – except for adding some color and perhaps a little tartness.

But the tartness in this case is quite welcome, because it compliments the tangy citrus flavors so well.  Even though there are several different components to this tea that contribute a citrus flavor, the dominant flavor is that of pink grapefruit. It is tart yet sweet and quite juicy tasting.

At first, I didn’t taste much of the eucalyptus in this, but as I continue to sip, I notice it slightly more.  It is still rather subtle.  It does add some definition to the grapefruit flavor, but, this definitely doesn’t taste like eucalyptus.  It tastes like grapefruit!

The Oolong flavor, by comparison, is a little muted.  Ordinarily, I might find fault with that, however, this is so remarkably tasty that its difficult to complain about the lack of Oolong taste.  This is definitely more of a tea for grapefruit lovers than it is for Oolong lovers, although Oolong lovers might find this a welcome departure from the usual.

Overall, I really enjoyed this cup.  Such a pleasant flavor that I find to be quite invigorating.  It has a very pleasing natural sweetness to it, so little to no additional sweetener is required, which is perfect for those of us who are trying to cut back on the sugar intake!  A great tea for an afternoon out with girlfriends!

Tropical Tangerine White Tea from Boston Tea Company

Tea Information:

Leaf Type:  White

Where to Buy:  Boston Tea Company

Company Description:

Deliciously juicy and sweet, tangerines lend a pleasing citrus twist to our gentle Chinese white tea, which is only harvested in early Spring when the Camellia Sinensis plant produces very small buds. Brew this lovely blend to accompany your breakfast or afternoon treat; it’s a flavor to complement whatever you eat!

Taster’s Review:

Let’s face it; there are a lot of tropical flavored teas out there.  Some are good, some not so good.  But, even with the really tasty tropical blends, they can get rather boring after you’ve tasted a few.  So it’s nice when you find one that has something a little extra to make it get noticed amongst the typhoon of tropical teas out there.

This is one such tea.  While it is flavored with some of the ordinary tropical fruits – I can definitely taste pineapple, and maybe orange and even a hint of banana.

But, what makes this tea stand out is the tangerine – which is clearly defined in this tea.  Yes, tangerine can be considered a tropical fruit since it is a citrus; however, what I like about this tea is not that it includes tangerine but that the tangerine really pops in this blend.  It is sweet and juicy and delicious!

A tea blend is only as good as the tea in it – and this blend has big “white” tea leaves in it that are covered in fuzzy white down.  The sweet, fresh flavor of the white tea is prominent in this blend.  And while many white teas are very delicate in taste – this tea is not so delicate that it will lose its flavor when iced.  In fact – and maybe this is just the warm weather talking here – but, I think this tea is even tastier when served chilled than when it’s served hot, because as it cools the tangerine flavor comes to life even more.

This is delightful!
