Taster’s Review:

This Sun Moon Lake Black Tea from Nuvola Tea is absolutely stunning!  A really exquisite cup of tea!

The dark, long, wirey leaves produce a lovely, coppery colored liquid that smells sweet and fruity, reminding me a bit of fresh, juicy plums.  The taste is lovely with notes of sweet caramel and a hint of chocolate.  I taste a slight malty undertone, it’s very subtle but its there.  There is a bright fruit note that tastes like a cross between citrus and and plum.  The slight astringency toward the tail enhances the citrus-like tones.sunmoonlakecupped

The citrus notes also provide an interesting crispness to the cup, and even though the crispness is invigorating, I find this cup to be more on the mellow side rather than the robust side.  Sure, it’s full of flavor, but this isn’t something I’d want to drink in the morning when I need that burst of energy.  Instead, this is a tea to be enjoyed … drink it slowly during a lazy afternoon when you want to contemplate the beauty of an amazing tea like this one.

And be sure to infuse these tea leaves a second (and possibly a third time!) … it is well worth the effort.  I found the second infusion to be my favorite!

Another outstanding tea from Nuvola Tea!

Tsuei Luan Tea from Tea from Taiwan

tsuei_luanTea Information:

Leaf Type:  Oolong

Where to Buy:  Tea From Taiwan

Tea Description:

Tsuei Luan oolong tea (wulong tea) is grown in the Tsuei Luan district of Li Shan (Pear Mountain). This area is a former fruit producing region which was converted to tea plantations in the late 1970’s. The soil quality of the former orchards is excellent, and the high altitude (more than 2000 meters) of this district provides a cool, moist climate – ideal conditions for growing tea.

Tsuei Luan oolong tea has an exquisitely sweet aroma and interesting flavour profile. The slightly floral taste has a definite fruit undertone – said to be the result of growing tea on orchard land. This tea has a very pleasing flavour that makes it one of the most popular teas amongst Taiwan tea connoisseurs.

Taster’s Review:

Oh wow… this Tsuei Luan Tea from Tea from Taiwan is superb!

The tightly wound, bright green leaves offer a slight vegetative aroma.  The leaves open slowly, and the tea produced is very pale yellow-green in color, and the fragrance is slightly fruity with hints of flower, and a background note that reminds me of mild, lightly buttered veggies.  It’s sort of savory and sweet at the same time.

With the aroma, I expected a stronger vegetative taste … but this is a mellow vegetal taste, with more emphasis on the sweetness of the tea … I taste sweet flower and sweet fruit, and even sweetness from the vegetative tones.  The sweetness seems to be the highlight of this first cup, which is the combination of my first two infusions, following a quick 10 second rinse.  The mouthfeel is thick, but there is an astringency to it too, which seems to clean the palate from the heaviness of the mouthfeel.  My mouth doesn’t feel like it’s overwhelmed by the thick, heavy mouthfeel because by the time the sip is finished, the astringency seems to wipe the thickness away.  It’s really quite a delightful experience.

My second cup (infusions three and four) becomes less thick and creamy, which allows more of the individual flavors of fruit and flower to come through.  While the first cup was more about the lovely sweetness of this tea, this cup seems to be more about the beautiful fruit and floral notes … as if somehow, Tea from Taiwan has managed to capture the essence of the air of a mountainside of fruit trees while in bloom … that crisp, brisk air as the fruit blossoms weave their magic throughout.

My third and final cup is softer … smoother, and perhaps my favorite cup of the three.  The flavors have become more united in this cup … here, the fruit notes have melded so nicely with the floral tones to create a taste that is mostly fruit, but also touched with the essence of flower  … and just a hint of vegetable in the background.  This cup is significantly lighter than the first, but it is very refreshing.

A very enjoyable tea, this Tsuei Luan Tea, it is one I highly recommend to Oolong enthusiasts!  You really should try it!

Taster’s Review:

For several years now, I have always stated firmly that my favorite Oolong is Ali Shan … but, after having tried a few Da Yu Ling Oolong, I have to say that my favorite may have changed!  Oh, I still love Ali Shan, of course, but, I am so infatuated with this Da Yu Ling Oolong Tea from Nuvola Tea right now, that I find it difficult to say that it is anything less than my favorite.  This is an extraordinary tea!

Da Yu Ling does have some similarities to my beloved Ali Shan, but also some notable differences.  I think what stands out most to me is how delicate it tastes … delicate, and yet … so rich.  It amazes me how a tea can taste delicate and yet be so full-bodied.  It is so smooth and delightfully floral.  The floral tones tingle on the tip of my tongue.  All at once, I taste notes of flower, fruit, honey, air and vegetation, and each element is presented in such a way as it seems to float over the palate in such a deliciously delightful way.DaYuLingcupped

Subsequent infusions deliver a smoother flavor, where all the notes seem to come together in a very harmonious way and become less individual, and more of a collective flavor that is absolutely sumptuous … it is luxurious and beautiful to sip.

I managed eight very flavorful infusions, brewing it in my gaiwan, and combining the results of two infusions into one cup (which means four cups of tea!)  This tea is definitely a worthwhile investment.  I absolutely adore it!

Taster’s Review:

I was kind of surprised when I first opened the pouch of this tea.  I think I expected smaller leaves … but these leaves are a little bit larger than I thought they’d be, and they are very deeply green, like somewhere on the color wheel between forest green and emerald green.  Very deep and vividly green!

The leaves brew a really pretty, light yellow-green liquid that offers a very “green” aroma.  It smells very vegetative, like a cross between seaweed and steamed vegetables, with just a touch of freshly cut grass.  It’s a very fresh, green fragrance!

The flavor is also “green” … although it doesn’t taste quite as green as the aroma lead me to believe it would.  It has a bright flavor that tastes of very lightly buttered veggies … it is a very refreshing taste.  It tastes clean and pure, and I feel invigorated as I sip it.  It has a delicate sweetness to it, and a certain crispness to the cup that seems to revive and stimulate the palate.

It has a slightly nutty tone to it as well, with notes that remind me of a warm, whole grain like a cross between farro and oats.  Very warm and almost nourishing … although it seems strange for me to describe a tea as “nourishing!”  I guess it is a healthy beverage, so it is nourishing, but I’ve never really consumed tea for it’s health benefits, but for its delicious flavor.

As I continue to explore the flavors in this tea, I notice a slight citrus-y note that I described before as a “bright taste.”  It started out just tasting very bright – almost sunny! – and now the citrus notes seem to emerge slightly as I near the end of the cup.  It isn’t a strong or even obvious citrus note, but, it’s a barely there kind of taste that keeps the palate interested in what its tasting.

A very rewarding cuppa … this tea offers a gentle sort of energy to it that makes it an excellent choice for afternoon, when you’re needing something to help enliven the senses.  This tea seems to have brought a renewed vigor to my day!

Taster’s Review:

Taiwan Jin Xuan Milk Oolong Tea Flavored from Teavivre is creamy, soothing, and delicious, just what I want in a milk oolong! I really quite enjoy this tea for its creamy goodness. While I love Teavivre’s unflavored version this version provides a bit more sweetness, almost a caramel note.

I typically enjoy a darker roasted oolong as a rule however now and then I prefer something on the green side of oolongs. This is a nice departure with more vegetal notes, and buttery goodness!

Some have said this reminds them of a cream cheese frosting more than milk and I tend to agree with that assessment. There is something so intriguing about this tea flavor that it is really difficult to describe and has to be experience for yourself. Now with that said, its not too sweet, its not sappy or cloying, so don’t be afraid to give it a go if you are not one who appreciates sweeter teas. Its not even the kind of sweetness one would get from tea with honey or maple notes. The sour cream frosting flavor really isn’t all that sweet, but there is some sort of bite to the milkiness, or just a hint at a sour note that keeps me trying to dissect it. You see the more I attempt to describe this tea the worse I feel I make it sound. Its not sour like sour milk where one’s mind may naturally go to considering it is a milk flavored tea right? But its not like that either. There is nothing off putting about this tea whatsoever. Its very soothing, very mellow, very relaxing, sedating almost.

For me it brings back childhood memories of my great great grandmother’s milk toast she used to feed me when I was little especially when I had tummy aches. I still love milk toast and I love this tea.
