Valentine Tea Alert! Love Tea #7 from David’s Tea. . .

My lovely, kind, smart and wonderful fiancé has one fatal flaw. He doesn’t like strawberries, you guys. STRAWBERRIES. How?! I wish I could tell you. I, on the other hand, clearly am a fan. So when I dug this tea out of my sample stash, I knew that this could go one of two ways: I could love it, and rejoice in the more-for-me glory, or it could fall seriously flat and I wouldn’t be able to pawn it off on him as I so often do with teas that I don’t love (Whoops. Sorry for all the rejects, honey).

At first sniff, I could pick out all the key players– chocolate, strawberry and rose, all present and accounted for. My hopes rose even more after steeping a generous teaspoon in my cup– the brewed aroma alone made my kitchen smell like I’d just finish dipping a batch of chocolate-covered berries.

And did it deliver? YES. (insert hallelujah hands emoji *here*). I lost a little bit of the rose in the brewed tea, but my cup was perfectly evocative of my favorite little red fruit covered in creamy, sweet chocolate. As a latte, this was divine.

Thankfully, this little pouch will get tucked away in the all-mine corner of my tea cabinet, and I don’t think my fiancé will mind one bit.

White Strawberry from CitizenTEA. . . Simply Strawberry!

I have had this tea a few times now and each time I readied myself to write a review. However, that never really panned out…until now. Unfortunately, seeing as I am on the last of the leaf, it seems there is not the usual balance of ingredients. This is actually most notable in the color of the tea which usually looks as if it has two layers: the more clear white tea on top with the purplish-pink liquid beneath. Today I am guessing my leaf lacked the hibiscus needed to give the purplish-pink hue and so it looks like mug of plain white tea.

Luckily, the flavor doesn’t seem too affected. There is a candied strawberry flavor faintly floating in the mug that I noticed first, probably because I worried it would not be there given the lack of color. However, more prominent is the buttery hay notes of the white tea base. The apple and melon play off the base tea and create a rounder mouthfeel and velvety fruit flavor that helps sell the concept of a strawberry tea. One thing I will say is the hibiscus usually helps to create a more natural strawberry taste by providing just a little bit of tart and without it, the strawberry is more muted and reminiscent of strawberry flavoring as opposed to the fruit itself.

Ultimately I think White Strawberry is a pretty accurate name. It’s white tea. It’s strawberry. Just a simple name for a simple, yet enjoyable tea.

Strawberry Cheesecake from Allegheny Coffee & Tea . . . .A Sweet Treat

While wandering around Pittsburgh’s Strip District the drizzly day after Christmas, my in-laws and I noticed a tea and coffee shop, Allegheny Coffee & Tea Exchange.

“Oh no,” whispered my husband, jokingly.

“Too late,” whispered my father-in-law, a little less jokingly.

“We have to go in there,” I said.

“Coffee,” my mother-in-law drooled.

“We’re going to keep walking down the street,” my husband’s brother said. “We’re going to keep walking down the street,” my husband’s brother said.

My mother-in-law and I rushed into the store, which had big barrels of coffee and lovely sniffers of tea. We split into our separate caffeinated zones. Me to the tea, her to the coffee. My husband gamely followed me and played with the infusers while I sniffed everything.

I got out of there in under $20. The employees were friendly, tolerant of my enthusiasm, and very polite.

I first got around to trying this particular tea, Strawberry Cheesecake, while I was at a cabin with a few friends.

One was pregnant, and couldn’t have much caffeine, but she sipped some of this. “That hits my ‘I miss coffee’ spot,” she said happily. “That’s actually really good.”

This tea is a very rich berry cream flavor. I don’t think I’d call it “cheesecake,” though. I’d go with “cream,” or perhaps “yogurt.” But not the full cheesecake. That said, I have no idea how one would go about making anything taste like cheesecake. It seems like an impossible task. But this flavor does hint at dairy, which I find impressive. It’s sweet and girly.

If you want to scratch a caffeine itch or a dessert itch, give this one a whirl.

Thanks, spontaneous Pittsburgh find!

Santa Berry Tea from Kent & Sussex Tea & Coffee Co.

Now THIS is a fruit flavored black tea I can get behind! Oh! Maybe that is because it doesn’t have hibiscus in it! Santa Berry Tea from Kent & Sussex Tea & Coffee Co, that is!

Santa Berry Tea from Kent & Sussex Tea & Coffee Co smells like fruity candy straight out of the bag! I think it is the fruity combo of orange, cranberry, strawberry, and raspberry. It’s truly a delight!

Once infused the cranberry is the more intense of the fruit to awaken the nose and tongue! The cardamom provides a hint of spice which is nice. The strawberry and raspberry seem to fuse together and that glorious orange peel MUST be from that same orange the company uses in their Orange Cookie Black Tea that I am a bit obsessed with lately! Santa Berry Tea from Kent & Sussex Tea & Coffee Co is really something special! Of course, I am partial because it doesn’t contain hibiscus! That in itself deserves two thumbs up! But I’m genuinely stoked about the flavor of this tea! It’s great!

Boomstick from Fandom Tea

Yes, I am a huge horror fan.  One of the first movies I remember watching when I was a kid with my dad is Army of Darkness. At the time, I just thought it was a fun weird off the wall movie. I loved every cut scene and one liner.  Plus, the leading actor had this crazy chin.  Little did I know this movie would actually set the tone for a good chunk of my life and my obsession with all things horror and supernatural.

When Starz green lighted Ash vs Evil Dead, I was ecstatic! I couldn’t wait and when the show aired, I was instantly in love! Even tho I still love the original Evil Dead movies, there is a special place in my heart for this series.  Any way I can get more Bruce Campbell, I’m all over it.

So let’s chat about this tea dedicated to the Evil Dead Series, Boomstick.  If you are familiar with the series, Boomstick is one of the iconic fixtures of the movies/show.  Boomstick is the gun that Bruce Campbell aka Ash uses.  With that kind of description, you would think this would be a smoky blend of some sort. While there is a underlying smoke from this green flavored tea, there is also a sweetness.

Boomstick is a gunpowder green tea with strawberry flavorings added in. Sweet yet smoky and that is exactly the flavor profile of this tea as well. What you really come away with are this rich bursting strawberry notes that sweetened that smoky gunpowder green tea perfectly. The perfect way to describe the main character as well.  He is sweet and cares as much as he is sleek and charming, well and maybe a bit off the wall as well.

Overall, a great flavored unique tea that was bursting with so much fresh flavor.  I could see this being an amazing tea as a cold brew too. Especially with those chilly fall/winter days upon us.  A fresh burst of strawberry can always brighten up someone’s day.

I will be ordering more of this tea so I can watch the series premiere of season 2 of Ash Vs Evil Dead in style while drinking out of my awesome mug! And yes, I have to end this review like this. . .Groovy!
