I didn’t drink this sample for a while because the habanero struck fear into my heart. What if it was fiery? What if this made me cry? That’d make a funny post, but it wouldn’t make for a good life experience.
Luckily, the primary thing about this tea is the tropical fruit (mostly the pineapple). Pineapple is my favorite, so I’m all about it.
If you hadn’t told me about the habanero, I might have thought the tingling was schizophrenia. It sneaks up on you, getting more intense as you drink down. (Does it, like sink? Scientists?) The first time I drank this, I thought I was going crazy.
Or drinking the tea too hot.
Which I always do. I want to drink my tea the instant it comes out of the steeper. I do not want to wait. I want it in my face immediately. So I’m constantly singeing the roof of my mouth. Then probing the destroyed tissue with my tongue, thwarting the healing process.
You’d think this is a n00b move. Maybe I just started drinking tea, like, yesterday.
No. I have been hard-drinking tea (2+ cups a day on workdays) for at least a year. And I’m STILL tossing scalding water down my gullet like it ain’t no thang.
Maybe I secretly think I’m an X-Man (X-Woman?). Like I’ll mutate to accommodate heat. My mouth will, like, toughen up. It’ll culminate in my ability to drink lava. I could take my act on the road. Pay off my mortgage.
So anyway, this tea is delicious. Maybe, if your mouth is not severely damaged by your own stupidity, you’ll appreciate some tingling! It’s a fun feature for a tea to have.

Organic Masala Chai from Full Leaf Tea Company was my morning companion recently. I was looking for a straight-up chai. CHECK! Organic? That’s ALWAYS a PLUS! Check!!! Full, plump, and obvious ingredients to the eye? CHECK! I’d say this was a complete SCORE! But how does it TASTE? Let me tell you!
Organic Masala Chai from Full Leaf Tea Company uses Certified Organic Black Tea from India mixed with organic ginger, organic cinnamon, organic cardamom, and organic cloves. The traditional ingredients and spices you have come to grow and love in a chai, right? RIGHT!
It’s spicy, bold, and slightly sweet. It’s not the most intensely flavored chai I have ever tasted but it doesn’t disappoint that is for sure! It has a nice medium strength black tea base with medium strength spices to boot!
I found this to be completely satisfying on the recent cold wintery mornings here in the snowbelt. I think this is a chai that would please the masses!

#FanaticFriday: Spiced Cucumber Melon Green Tea from 52Teas
Because I am such a fan of 52Teas, I thought I’d take over SororiTea Sisters to chat about a few of their blends. Though this blend isn’t a new one, I finally had a chance to try it so its new to me!
Spiced Cucumber Melon Green Tea is one that arrived in one of my mystery grab bags that 52Teas offered not too long ago. I’m a huge fan of their green teas but being one that isn’t a huge fan of spicy teas, I wasn’t sure what I would think. But I wanted to go out of my comfort zone a bit, so I steeped up my water to 175F, allowed the tea to steep for a few minutes, cool for a bit, and took my first sip.
This blend is a mix of green tea, cucumber, peppermint, lime leaves, ginger, black pepper, habanero pepper and natural flavors. What I found so fascinating about this blend was how refreshingly cool the tea came across while having a spicy kick in the background. An odd mix of flavors but one that really works well.
Each sip yielded this gorgeous cucumber melon flavor with hints of lime and peppermint (think mojito style) at the beginning and the aftertaste is where the spicy kick came to play.
A wonderfully strange mix of flavors but one that I’m loving! Such a refreshing mix of cucumber and melon with an air of spice. This blend is still violable but I’m not sure for how long seeing as I just emailed 52Teas to see how much of this tea they have left. I might just have to buy the remaining inventory!

Last year’s Cucumber Cantaloupe Oolong went over really well, so I thought I’d like to bring the flavors of cucumber and melon together again but this time with a green tea base and with a touch of warm spices to contrast the cool fruit flavors of cucumber and melon (yes, cucumber is a fruit. I looked it up on the internet and I know the internet wouldn’t lie to me, right?) Then I added a touch of mint and lime to perk up the palate.
It’s sweet and gently spiced. It’s refreshing and it’s a little different. It’s really good.

Taster’s Review:
Yes, you read that description correctly. This is a habanero infused tea. HABANERO infused tea! I couldn’t resist! I just had to try this really unique and interesting tea.
The description says drink it in place of coffee, I’m not sure about that, but I will say this is one of the most unique teas I’ve ever tried.
First off, do not take a big whiff of the dry leaves. Silly me did and I was coughing for about 10 minutes afterwards. There are definite notes of the habanero pepper. The packaging said to allow the tea to steep for about 5 minutes with boiled water. Usually I wouldn’t steep my black tea for that long, but I thought I would go with the instructions since this is such a unique tea.
Five minutes later I poured my hubby and I a hot cuppa of this blend and sat down to enjoy. We both allowed the tea to cool for a few moments and then took our first sip. I will say this, I don’t know how they did it, but you can not taste tea in this blend at all. The first part of the sip you can feel the tea in your mouth but it isn’t until you start to swallow the tea do you start to notice any taste. It is a really unique experience.
Once you start to tatse the tea, there is no going back. You are tasting nothing but the habanero flavor and it is hot. This tea literally tasted like you bit right into a habanero pepper. Very very spicy!
We both tried a few more sips of this tea, still having the same experience. Never tasting tea just the pepper flavor. As far as a tea goes, I can’t say that I would drink more of this blend. It sounds fun, but I wish the habanero wasn’t so overwhelming so that the tea notes could pop in more. I have find myself wondering if I hadn’t steeped the tea for the five minutes, what the flavor would be but I drank up my whole sample. I also am pondering what this tea would be like cold brewed.
Looking at their site they have a few more interesting teas I want to check out. This tea company is one that has peaked my interest for sure!
