Taster’s Review:

OK… so this was a tea that made me a little nervous.  Lots of herbs AND Pu-erh?  Yeah, not exactly high up there on the oh-my-goodness-I-really-must-try-it-now list. But now that I’m tasting it, I’m enjoying it.  In fact, I like this a lot, and I could see myself drinking this on a regular basis.

After examining the contents of this sample package, I noticed that there seemed to be more herbs than tea in this blend, so, I decided to steep it at 195°F for 8 minutes to get the most out of those herbs.  And I’m quite satisfied with the result.

There is a LOT going on with this blend.  The first flavor I notice is the sarsaparilla, and it gives the cup a very root beer kind of taste.  I then notice the ginger – it adds a gentle, soothing warmth without tasting too spicy.  The cacao adds a hint of chocolate-y flavor to the background.  Also in the background, I notice a citrus-y note.

Overall, the cup is very herb-y tasting without tasting too medicinal.  The Pu-erh does manage to make its presence known.  It adds an earthiness to the cup that balances everything out.  I find this to be a very satisfying cup – quite soothing and calming – I feel the stress drain from my body!

This is my kind of beauty regimen!

Tasters Review:

If you are looking for a nice soothing herbal tea that has lemon notes without the pucker try French Verveine from The Tao of Tea.

This is a very lovely herbally-lemon…a very smooth and gentle lemon. Everything is mellow about this tisane…but isn’t that the point!?

I know this is redundant but…it’s very nice and very relaxing!

I think this would be interesting to cook with too!  Perhaps with rice!  YUM!  I just might have to try that!

Bird of Paradise Tea from Alice’s Fine Tea

Tea Type: Flowering Tea/Blooming Tea

Where To Buy: Alice’s Fine Tea

Product Description:

This bloom unfolds into beautiful birds perched in a golden nest surround by green. Not only is it visually surprising, but the taste is surprisingly spicy and reminds one of autumn, like pumpkin pie!. One of the favorites at Alice’s Fine Teas, a delicious, warm, soothing tea. Ingredients: Marigold (believed to help circulation and ease stomach ache), Lily (said to enhance energy and to have a cooling effect) and Silver Needle Tea

Tasters Review:

Surprisingly this DOES taste a lot like pumpkin or maybe more of a butternut squash with yummy spice notes underneath!  As it cools at room temperature it does taste more like pumpkin…not really pumpkin pie, but pumpkin.  It’s almost like a flavored silver needle!  It’s very nice – very surprising!  It’s also slightly peppery in the middle of the sip but finishing somewhat soothing and flatter.

The 2nd infusion…is completely different.  It’s floral from start to finish and a little bitter…but floral bitter, not bad bitter.  I would say more marigold, specifically.

I will say this is one of the more perfectly bloomed Flowering Teas I have had…it had no problem blooming whatsoever!  It was very beautiful and it was very aromatic even before infusing.  This is certainly a tea for special occasions and certainly a piece of art!  I enjoyed this quite a bit.

Tasters Review:

I’ve said it before and I will say it again…YOU DON’T KNOW UNLESS YOU TRY.  The reason I say that is generally speaking I am not a fan of most Herbals…unless they are minty.

When I tried this CALMING TEA from Byron Bay Tea Company I had several things running thru my mind…

1. WOW!  I’m drinking a tea/tisane that traveled all the way from Australia!  COOL!

2. The Labels are simple yet colorful and eye catching and I like that!  The colors are vibrant and beautiful!

3. They have excellent customer service – I corresponded with them via email – and it was excellent!

4. This is surprisingly incredible! I was afraid it was going to be herbally and/or boring but it’s a delight!

5. It sort of smells like Adagio’s Foxtrot with a little lime and sweet flower and less chamomile. Well, to the eye, there is a lot of chamomile, but when you taste it – it’s just enough and everything else works well with it! The Cinnamon is barely there…but I think that is perfect- I think any more cinnamon and it would ruin what’s going on with the tisane!

6. This is a tisane I would have again.  I am so glad I was able to try it!

7. CALMING by Byron Bay Tea Company just maybe my favorite non-minty herbal to date.
