Taster’s Review:

Turkish Green Apple from Red Leaf Tea is a very light flavored tea with apples being only a slight flavor in the overall profile. It tastes more of buttered spinach and has a slight salty taste as well. The apples taste to be semi fermented in a sense, as they taste in a hard apple cider yet in this blend very delicate and only a slight bit tart.

This is a soothing tea that is very delicate in its nature, calming and relaxing. I would not want this in the morning but is a wonderful tea to sip while laying in bed decompressing and reading a favorite novel.

If you want that more robust flavor be sure to wait and allow the tea to cool more before sipping as this tea tends to take on its stronger characteristics as it becomes more room temperature, even the mouthfeel becomes heavier as it cools a bit.

There is a creaminess to the mouthfeel, and even a slight cream flavor. Buttery, creamed, spinach with an apple appeal. Haha, get it?

Taster’s Review:

Citrus Punch Matcha from Red Leaf Tea is really rather quite yummy! The reason I say that is because honestly I was a little apprehensive about trying this matcha.

I really thought it would be too tart, or too bitter, but its not! Its fresh, natural tasting, mix of orange, lemon, and lime. It reminds me a lot of a juice I used to drink when I was younger called Five Alive.

five_alive355

I made a latte with almond milk, and a splash of vanilla creamer and this matcha really tasted like a smoothie, or a Julius.

I am eager to try this matcha blended with some sparkling water or ginger ale as well!

Sometimes, with some matcha flavors I worry about a chemical after taste, and I am amazed that so much flavor can be packed into this dusty fine matcha powder! I don’t know how Red Leaf Tea does it, but I am so happy that they do!

Red Leaf Tea also has a fruit punch flavor I am dying to try, I have that on my shopping list! Then they recently released Apple Pie, Berry Pie, and French Butter Cookie, all which instantly made it on my shopping list as well.

Keep coming out with the amazing flavors Red Leaf Tea, and like a minion I will keep on buying!

As for this flavor, love it!

Taster’s Review:

I really need to get back into the swing of things and start drinking more Matcha again.  For a while there, I was drinking it every day, and it did wonders for my energy levels.  I don’t know what happened since then, but somehow I fell off the “Matcha Wagon” and I can definitely notice a difference in my energy levels.

This Green Apple Matcha from Red Leaf Tea is really yummy!  It is a sweeter version of a green apple, I was expecting a flavor more like a tart, crisp Granny Smith apple and that’s not what I taste here, although there certainly is a tart crispness to the flavor.  I am tasting a sweeter flavor … almost like a candied version of Granny Smith (think of the green apple hard candies … yeah, you know which ones I’m talking about, don’t you?)

The Matcha flavor is sweet and creamy, with hints of a buttery smoothness that I think goes along nicely with the tart flavor of a green apple.  Perhaps this is why the green apple tastes sweet … because of the Matcha?  I don’t know, but, I do know that this does taste a bit more like a sweetened green apple than a fresh, unadulterated one.

My specifications for this Matcha are my “usual” go-to specifications for Red Leaf Tea’s flavored Matcha:  the distinctive level of flavoring with the classic grade of green tea Matcha for the base.  I think that the distinctive level worked well here, I can taste the apple flavor as well as the Matcha … although I think that the apple flavor IS stronger than the Matcha … so if you want a strong Matcha flavor to come through, you might want to go with the delicate level of flavoring.  I certainly wouldn’t go over the distinctive level here, I think the flavor is plenty strong, and if you went robust with this … it might be too overpowering.

My main motivation for purchasing this particular flavor was that I thought it would make an excellent blending Matcha – it would work nicely in a smoothie, giving the usual ingredients in my smoothies a pleasant tartness without getting TOO tart.  By the way, in case you’re wondering, my usual ingredients for a smoothie are: plain yogurt, banana, and whatever frozen and/or fresh fruit I happen to have on hand, along with a couple of ice cubes, blended in my blender until smooth.  I usually add a healthy scoop of Matcha to the smoothie too (I’d estimate about 1 teaspoon of Matcha) and the result is YUM.  It would also work nicely with the Caramel flavored Matcha, or just about any fruit flavored Matcha that Red Leaf Tea offers.  (They offer just about every flavor you can imagine!)

Taster’s Review:

Passion Fruit Wulong from Red Leaf Tea is a gentle, delicate, dainty tea! How perfect that I decided to use my gorgeous pink with golden swirl teacups! I feel dainty drinking this sweet, juicy, fruity tea!

The Wulong aroma is present but it may have needed more steep time to give me that Wulong punch I am used to.

This is so subtle yet enticing with its flavoring. I could see this being the perfect tea for a young girls tea party, to introduce new tea drinkers to finer teas, etc. Brewed double strength I can absolutely see how this would be a wonderful iced tea as well.

Yes, I do like this one quite a bit. I tend to lean toward stronger flavors personally but this tea has really hit its mark with a soft warm gentle glow.

Passion Fruit Wulong has a strong buttery aroma, with fruity notes jumping up for attention. The flavor of passion fruit, and mango, perhaps even some papaya come out to play then to finish there is a  lingering flavor of melon, perhaps honeydew or cantaloupe.

At 4.99 for 1.6 ounce its a steal!

Taster’s Review:

OK… how could I NOT try this matcha from Red Leaf Tea?  Raspberry Truffle flavored Matcha?  It sounded way too good, you know had to try it!

I went with my “usual” specifications for this Matcha, using the classic grade of green Matcha and the distinctive level of flavoring.  The first time I prepared it, I was a little bit disappointed because I could taste an artificial taste to it.  Then I decided to prepare it differently for my second attempt … and make it into a latte.

And as a result, I’ve come to the conclusion that this Matcha should be prepared as a latte.  That chemical-y, artificial taste is gone now, and all that I taste is sweet, creamy, raspberry and chocolate truffle with Matcha!  YUM!

To make my latte, I used 1% milk – primarily because it was the only milk I had in the house.  I don’t typically like 1% milk, but that’s what my husband likes, and since he’s the milk consumer in this house … that’s what we get.  Usually, I enhance the 1% milk with some half & half (using a ratio of 2 parts milk to 1 part half & half) to keep the milk from tasting too much like creamy water.  But I didn’t even have half & half on hand, so, I just went with the 1% milk … and it worked PERFECTLY for this application.

I heated the milk, then sifted the flavored matcha powder over the milk and used my hand-held frothing tool to whisk in the matcha (I prefer not to use my chasen when I make lattes, because I fear the milk will impart bacteria on my bamboo whisk) and the result is a yummy, creamy, delicious bowl of Matcha goodness.  I taste the matcha – it is slightly vegetative and sweet and smooth.  The raspberry comes through and it tastes sweet-tart and bright … and then I taste the creamy, rich taste of chocolate.  Because of the milk, it tastes more like a milk chocolate to me than a dark chocolate … but it is delicious all the same.

Now, the milk doesn’t exactly make this as low calorie as it would be if it were prepared with water, but, given that the water preparation didn’t taste as good as the milk preparation, I’ve still got to recommend you try this as a latte.  You won’t be sorry!

By the way … keep watching the SororiTea Sisters blog … I’ll be giving away a pouch of this exact Matcha … same specifications – a full 30g pouch of it – very soon!
