Taster’s Review:
When I want something really frothy and creamy, Eggnog Matcha from Red Leaf Tea fits the bill!
So I am trying to slim down my matcha stash, not because I want to get rid of it, but rather I want to order some of the awesome new flavors that Red Leaf Tea has! So I looked over my matcha stash and saw this Eggnog Matcha sitting there beckoning me. I decided that it was what I was craving! Thick, creamy, very frothy, and heavy in the mouthfeel. It reminds me of custard, just like the description says. I like making mine with vanilla almond milk to give it a bit of a sweeter taste, but the flavors are dead on for Eggnog, and who says that it has to be the holidays to enjoy eggnog? Not me that’s for sure.
I like my flavored matcha from Red Leaf Tea cold, or made into an iced latte personally, and I have only had eggnog served cold as well, so it makes sense to me to prepare it cold.
There is a distinct vanilla flavor to eggnog, but also a slight nod toward nutmeg as well. What I really love about this flavor is that the matcha flavor is not lost in the blend. I can taste all of the matcha goodness here too! I would suggest you consider ordering the robust or at least distinctive blend in this specific flavor because it is not as strong as some of the other Red Leaf Tea flavor options. That is not to say you can’t taste the Eggnog flavor, you can, but if you really want that punch in the face flavor you need to at least go with Robust. When I order this flavor again it will be in the “There’s Matcha In There?” option.
I have enough of this left to do one more thing with it that I have been dying to do, and that is make an Eggnog Shake with it! This is one of those flavors that is a must try with ice cream!
Monkey Picked Oolong from Red Leaf Tea
Tea Information:
Leaf Type: Oolong
Where to Buy: Red Leaf Tea
Tea Description:
Deep in the forests of Southern China, tea leaves are still harvested by hand from wild tea trees. These are considered to be gourmet, premium teas among the Chinese, and there is always a light body, a delicate clarity, and an earthy nature to the brews of these leaves that is never found elsewhere. At one time, tradition says, the monks of a certain temple, desirous of harvesting more of these wild tree leaves at a quicker pace, trained dozens of monkeys to climb to the tops of the tea trees and pick the youngest leaves and pekoe buds up there! These monkey-picked leaves were then converted into oolong tea, the monk’s favored beverage. Today, Chinese tea drinkers call the very best oolong teas made from wild tree leaves, “Monkey-Picked,” even though more reliable methods of harvesting are now employed. Premium “Monkey-Picked” Oolong is rare, labor-intensive, and extremely delicate in flavor. It can be brewed for multiple infusions, with many declaring that the second steeping is the best! “Monkey-Picked” Ooloong has an extremely complex bouquet, with an earthiness in the brew usually found only in aged Pu Erh tea! Known to the Chinese as Ti Kuan Yin tea, or Goddess Tea, this ultimate oolong is a rare treasure for our Red Leaf customers! Try some today!

Taster’s Review:
I am a huge fan of oolong tea. Money Picked Oolong from Red Leaf Tea is a great one! The price is more than fair for this quality tea. At 7.99 per ounce it is robust with fruity juicy flavors and deep earthiness. The aroma is intoxicating and inviting. You can taste and smell ripely sweetened berries, and a caramelized sugar flavor that is just outstanding!
There is a slight rock mineral flavor that is not drying at all, rather quenching which I find interesting because mineral flavors are generally drying on my palate. This is a welcome and unique experience .
The flavors linger on the palate for quite a long time, beckoning me to take another sip, yet as I am generally one to drink my teas rather quickly, there is something that makes me just want to sit back and allow the flavors to meld over my palate, and just enjoy the after taste.
The color of the cup is delightful, deep golden orange almost verging on an amber color. Very cheerful to look at, and even more joyful to savor.
Red Leaf Tea is my “go to” place for straight and flavored matcha, but don’t overlook their abundant selection of straight and flavored teas!
I tend to be a big fan of Dong Ding Oolong, but this Monkey Picked Oolong from Red Leaf Tea my just be winning my top spot for oolong love!

Taster’s Review:
I’m not sure, exactly, what possessed me to order this Cola Flavored Matcha from Red Leaf Tea, except for possibly curiosity. Thinking about it … a Matcha flavored cola is something that would definitely spark my interest – for purely curious reasons – because it doesn’t really seem like a suitable combination. Matcha is creamy, slightly vegetative tasting green tea. Healthy. Tasty. Invigorating. While cola seems to be on the opposite end of the spectrum. Certainly not creamy or vegetative, definitely NOT healthy … ok, sure, it’s tasty but it’s so sickeningly sweet that I can tolerate it on only rare occasions. Cola has that tooth-rotting sweetness that seems to adhere itself on the tooth’s surface and only a thorough brushing seems to remove it. I just … don’t like that!
That being said, I have encountered a few cola flavored teas that I’ve quite enjoyed. And they even tasted a bit like cola, and the best part is that they LACKED the aforementioned tooth-rotting sweetness. Cola flavored teas are my way of enjoying the flavor of cola without enduring the sickeningly sweet taste of it.
And perhaps it is that idea that lead me to order this Cola Flavored Matcha from Red Leaf Tea. Well, that and, like I said – curiosity. I’m curious how well these two seemingly opposite things taste together.
And … it’s really quite tasty! I like this flavor combination. The cola notes are sweet … but not cloying. It has the “flavor” of cola. And of course, I can also taste the Matcha. The Matcha tastes decidedly different with the cola flavoring, though. It doesn’t taste vegetative. It tastes more buttery to me here. Smooth and creamy. There is a faint “bittersweetness” to it, reminiscent of the bitter taste you’d experience from a burnt-sugar caramel that ties in very well with the cola concept.
It’s really quite a unique taste – I don’t think I’ve tried any Matcha quite like this before – but that’s not to say it’s a bad thing … on the contrary, I think it’s a really, really good thing.
I tried this first hot, prepared traditionally using my chasen and chawan. It is good this way … but, keep in mind that drinking it this way it tastes a bit like a warm, flat cola. Then I tried scooping it into a water bottle with filtered water and giving it a vigorous shake. Prepared this way – it’s really quite amazing! Good warm … certainly something I enjoyed drinking, but, not something that I’d get all excited over. But cold … that’s the way to go with this one! It might even be good as a latte – it might taste a bit like a cola float! I haven’t tried it like that yet, because I find it so refreshing as a cold drink that I haven’t felt the need to experiment further … but if you do, please do comment here and tell me about it!

Taster’s Review:
I am LOVING this Pineapple Flavored Matcha from Red Leaf Tea – I absolutely love it! The sweet, juicy flavor of pineapple with the creamy, sweet, lush flavor of the Matcha are two tastes that work really well together.
I ordered this Matcha using my “usual” specifications – that is: Classic grade of green tea Matcha and the Distinctive level of flavoring. This produced a Matcha that froths up nicely and has a nice balance of both the Matcha and pineapple flavors. I prepared this the way I traditionally prepare Matcha: measuring out the powdered green tea leaf into my Chawan and then adding hot water and whisking together with my Chasen until the two ingredients are well incorporated. It isn’t REALLY frothy, but then, the classic grade of Matcha doesn’t really froth up quite as nicely as the more expensive (and better quality) grades. But, that’s alright. I like this just the way it is. It tastes fresh and smooth and sweet!
The pineapple tastes sweet and adds a nice tropical taste to the slightly vegetal taste of the Matcha. There is a slight chemical taste to this flavored Matcha … but the effect on the overall bowl of Matcha is so very insignificant. I don’t really notice it when I take a casual sip, it is only when I’m really focused on the flavors that I notice this slight “artificial” note … and it makes it taste a bit more like a pineapple candy than say, a chunk of fresh pineapple. The pineapple taste lingers long into the aftertaste, and it is here where I really appreciate the flavor of the pineapple … and this pineapple-y aftertaste tastes like real pineapple (as opposed to the aforementioned “pineapple candy” taste).
The Matcha is sweet and creamy and smooth. It doesn’t taste gritty and I like that the Matcha stayed incorporated throughout the sip. It didn’t become separated and those last few sips tasted just as creamy and well-mixed as the first few sips! YUMMY!
A really nice flavored Matcha … really nice!

Taster’s Review:
Butterscotch Matcha? Um … YES please!
This Butterscotch Flavored Matcha from Red Leaf Tea is absolutely YUMMY! Sweet and deliciously treat-y! This makes a perfect dessert if you want something decadent tasting without the calories that often goes with such an indulgence. Even when prepared as a latte (with the addition of milk) this Matcha has fewer calories than a rich dessert would, and as an added bonus, you also get the health benefits of the powdered green tea leaf!
As I’ve often mentioned, one of my favorite things about the flavored Matcha selections from Red Leaf Tea is that you can customize your flavored Matcha experience. You can choose flavor levels that range from “Delicate” to “There’s Matcha in There?!” (Suggesting that it tastes more like the flavor than the tea itself) … and I like that I have that choice. I also like that I can choose the grade of Matcha – from Classic to Imperial … I can also choose to have a white tea Matcha, black tea Matcha or a Red tea Matcha (made from Rooibos) … and I can choose to have Organic or conventionally grown tea. If I think that a blend might be tasty with a 50-50 mix of white tea Matcha and Green Tea Matcha … I can choose that too! I love all the options that are offered from Red Leaf Tea!
This particular flavored matcha was crafted using the Classic grade Matcha with a Robust amount of flavoring. And I like that I taste both the Matcha and the Butterscotch here. The butterscotch flavor is strong but doesn’t overpower the sweet, slightly vegetal taste of the Matcha. There is a delightful balance here that is really delicious.
This is a Matcha that I recommend trying as a latte – the butterscotch flavor lends itself well to the creaminess from a latte! When prepared traditionally, the Matcha is itself a creamy tasting/textured tea so you do get a certain creaminess from the traditional preparation, but, I find that by adding a splash of warmed milk I get a much more satisfying taste and texture. The milk really plays to the sweet, caramel-esque notes of the butterscotch.
So yummy!!!
