Organic Peaceful Dreams from Teas & Tapestries

Tea Information:

Leaf Type:  Herbal

Where to Buy:  Teas & Tapestries on Etsy

Product Description:

(Organic Caffeine Free Herbal Tea) Chamomile makes a pleasant aromatic tea with a fruity flavor, enhanced by sugar or honey. It is often sipped for relief of health problems ranging from toothache to nervousness. Chamomile has also been noted as beneficial for soothing headaches and is a natural relaxing herb known to assist the restless and those suffering from insomnia. In many circles Chamomile is called nighty night tea or sleepy tea on account of its natural properties which promote restfulness and drowsiness. It is also known to assist digestive disorders by settling the stomach and calming the nerves. This tea blend has an added benefit of peppermint. Peppermint It has been reported and written that peppermint sweetens the breath and calms the digestive system, plus it helps heartburn, stomach ache and nausea. I also add ginger for its numerous health benefits! Scientists have found evidence to support gingers wide range of medicinal actions. These actions include the lowering of cholesterol levels, relief for allergies and asthma, arthritis, colds, and nausea; and protecting the digestive tract and liver against toxins and parasites…along with many other benefits.

This tea is not a commercial blend, but I personally hand mix it in small batches to ensure quality and uniformity of each and every custom tea tin.

Taster’s Review:

I just love shopping with tea vendors on venues like Etsy.  After all, it is venues like this where I sold my teas!  Teas & Tapestries is one such vendor.  And I just love her shop!  Lovely banner, beautiful labels, and some very intriguing tea blends!

This herbal blend that I’m sipping now is really very good.  I am always somewhat hesitant when it comes to herbal teas.  I worry that they’ll either be medicinal in taste or just plain gross.  This one is neither!

The flavor is gentle and sweet and lightly floral with hints of peppery ginger and zesty mint.  Even though the chamomile seems to be the main ingredient in this blend, it is not the dominant flavor.  But that’s just fine with me, as I am not usually terribly fond of chamomile.  I can a delicate, fruity note from the chamomile, but, amid the stronger flavors of the ginger and mint, it doesn’t permeate the blend.

The ginger does not overwhelm, and neither does the peppermint.  The tea also contains chocolate mint, rose, rosehips and lemon balm.  Together, these ingredients create a sweet, soothing blend where no one flavor is overpowering.  It is a very harmonious balance.

The sip begins with a union of flavors that is a little fruity and a little flowery, and then the ginger kicks in with its distinctive flavor.  The tail of the sip brings in the mint, and the clean, cool taste of the mint lingers into the aftertaste.  It is really quite a pleasurable tea, one that I wouldn’t mind sipping every evening just before bedtime.

Black Magic from Byron Bay Tea Company

Tea Information:

Leaf Type:  Herbal Tisane

Where to Buy:  Byron Bay Tea Company

Product Description:

A wicked tea to entice the licorice lovers. Combining the refreshing properties of peppermint with the tasty treats of licorice and aniseed myrtle, this specialty blend will linger long on the palate. Particularly beneficial after meals to settle the tummy or satisfy your sweet tooth.

Taster’s Review:

I have to be honest – I didn’t really like this blend too much at first.  I found that I needed to add a little bit of honey to it to make it palatable for me, otherwise the flavors were just too harsh for me.  But with a little sweetening, this becomes a very delicious cup!

The licorice flavor is strong, to the point of being quite sharp without the honey.  But with the honey, I find that the licorice is softened just enough to taste a bit like a good old fashioned licorice.

The mint is not quite as strong as the licorice flavor, and in the competition, the licorice wins out at the start of the race.  However, the mint perseveres, and there is a crisp, clean minty aftertaste.

One thing I wanted to mention about this tisane.  I was experiencing some heartburn before I started drinking this tea… notice, I said WAS.  The heartburn is gone now, and I’m only about halfway through my cup!  For this reason, I recommend keeping this tisane on hand.  It tastes way better than those chalky antacids, and based upon this experience, I think it also works better than the antacids do.

A very strong herbal blend that is for those licorice lovers out there!

Tasters Review:
I’ve held off on trying and reviewing this herbal tea from Karma Blends because I haven’t been sick…but I can’t hold off any more!  I NEEDED to try it!

I thought it would be good to have right now because of the astringent tasting tea I just consumed…I thought the mint and eucalyptus would freshen my breath!

I will say this is very minty and refreshing aroma-wise!

Of course the primary taste is mint/eucalyptus but I am getting a good deal of licorice which I normally find distracting in most cases but not this one!  It works well as the 3rd noticeable flavor here!

Then the ginger pops in to say “hello” and again with ginger I am ‘hot and cold’.  I want to say I dislike it in teas more than like it BUT, again, it really works well in this herbal blend!

I can taste the Stevia.  It’s adds a nice natural-sugary undertone to this that I think helps tone down the ginger.

As it cools at room temperature the lemongrass is a little bit noticeable but it’s one of those ingredients I  probably wouldn’t have noticed in a blind taste-test.  Same thing with the Mango.  I can’t really taste the Mango at all.  I think it would be interesting if I could taste more of that.  Maybe more of that and a little less licorice would be the ONLY thing I would change about this one.  BUT…I am NOT complaining because I am really enjoying this.

If you are afraid of medicinal-type herbal teas…and enjoy mint…give this one a whirl!  This one really surprised me!  It’s quite good.

I’m having the bagged  version of this right now and it is very flavorful for a bagged tea!  The box suggested to try with honey and lemon to enhance the flavor.  I didn’t do this but I may try that in the future!

I have to say…this is probably on of my FAVORITE Medicinal-Type Herbal Tea/Tisanes I have had to date!

On the 5th Day of Christmas … from 52Teas

Good things come to those who wait?

I’ve heard this before, but, is it really true?

Well, in the case of these 12 Teas of Christmas, I have had many (well, five so far!) good things come to me as I’ve been waiting patiently for each day to arrive.  However, I suspect that I would have still had these teas even if I hadn’t waited.

But don’t tell the kids that.  It is important for them to know that good things come to those who wait.  I don’t know why it is important for them to know this.  For some reason, my parents thought it was important that I know this, and now, 52Teas feels the need to echo that sentiment.

But… we needn’t wait any longer!  Today’s tea of the day is…

We had a special request to create a stunning chocolate mint tea to serve at a wedding reception and to offer as wedding favors for guests at the wedding. The result was so awesome, I think we should share it with our other customers. So, without further ado, here is our featured tea of the week for the week of July 13th, the ultimate dessert tea, our chocolate mint flavored black tea, with real organic cacao nibs, fresh cut peppermint and all natural flavors.

Taster’s Review:

This tea came as a very welcome surprise this morning!  I have tasted this tea (you can read my review of it here), but it is such a delicious tea, I don’t mind that at all.

This one tastes just as good as I remember it:  a bright, crisp minty taste and a smooth, rich chocolate flavor.  The black tea is robust and strong but rather than interrupting the flavors of the chocolate and mint, it somehow manages to enhance them.

The best part of this tea:  the chocolate and mint flavors intensify as I continue to make my way down the cup.

The worst part of this tea:  when it’s gone.

This was a delicious treat.  I can’t wait to see what tea I’ll be enjoying tomorrow!

Taster’s Review:

OK, I admit it.  Herbal blends scare me.  Just a little bit.  They do!

That’s because even with the finest ingredients, herbal tisanes can go wrong.  They can taste medicine-y.  Or they can just have some funky off-putting taste.  So, needless to say, I was scared to try this blend from Byron Bay Tea Company.

But, this tastes really terrific!  If this is a skin regime, count me in!  I would be happy to drink this on a daily basis.

This doesn’t taste medicine-y or otherwise off-putting.  The peppermint is strong, but not overpowering… and interestingly enough, this tisane doesn’t come off as “minty” exactly, although it does have a crisp and clean mint aftertaste.

I am also enjoying the way the ginger and lemongrass work together in this blend.  The ginger offers just a hint of peppery flavor, while the sweet citrus-y tones of the lemongrass cancel out some of the spicier notes of the ginger. There is also a nice peppery accent in the finish that I find rather enjoyable.

But, I think my favorite part of this blend is the very subtle taste of rose.  It is a nice touch.  It is so soft and sweet.  Very nice, indeed.

None of the flavors here are overwhelming… instead, they are very harmonious with one another.  It has a pleasant, well-rounded taste.  It is a very soothing, relaxing cup – especially nice at the end of the day!
