Peppermint Guayusa from Runa

Tea Information:

Leaf Type:  Guayusa

Where to Buy:  Runa

Product Description:

The energizing power of guayusa with a crisp and rejuvenating organic peppermint.

Taster’s Review:

The more I drink Guayusa, the more I like it.  In many ways, it reminds me of Yerba Maté, as it has similar earthy/vegetative qualities.  But Guayusa is smoother than Yerba Maté.  Yerba Maté can sometimes be a little bitter, but I’ve never experienced any bitterness from Guayusa.

It also reminds me a bit of a good strong cup of black tea.  It has a bold, rich flavor and has the stimulating effects of coffee – but with one significant difference – I don’t experience the same ill after-effects with Guayusa that I do when I drink coffee.  So I have found myself turning to Guayusa more and more – especially when I need a good “wake up” on those mornings when I would rather be sleeping.

This Peppermint Guayusa is delightful.  The peppermint flavor is strong.  It is crisp, clean and vibrant.  Very minty, but I am not finding it to be too minty, thanks to the Guayusa.  It curbs the minty taste just enough.  The result is a smooth, delicious cup.  Slightly sweet and pleasantly minty.  Just what I needed this morning!

Peppermint from Teatulia available at Harrod’s

Tea Information:

Leaf Type:  Herbal Tisane

Brand Name:  Teatulia

Available from:  Harrod’s

Product Description:

Teatulia’s unique, buttery peppermint tea will awaken your senses. Naturally caffeine free, it is crisp and totally satisfying.

Taster’s Review:

OK, when I first received this tea, I thought, “eh… another peppermint leaf.”  No big deal, right?  WRONG!  This has to be the most unique peppermint I’ve yet to taste.  I don’t know what makes it different, but it really is.

The background to this is solid and brisk which lead me to re-examine the label to make sure it was 100% peppermint leaf with nothing else added.  I thought for sure there must be black tea in this!

In addition to the usual notes that I’d expect from a peppermint tisane –  clean minty flavor, refreshing, crisp notes – there is also a buttery taste to it, and a richness that reminds me of the baked flavor you might get from an Assam black tea.   When I sip on a peppermint tea that is 100% pure organic peppermint like this is, I expect a strong MINT flavor, of course, and that is there, but there is so much more to it than just mint.  And the mint isn’t an overwhelming, mouthwash-y mint.  It is clean and fresh-tasting, yes, but surprisingly non-mouthwash-y.

Perhaps the most satisfying peppermint tea experience I’ve had yet!

Moroccan Mint from Tea Licious

Tea Information:

Leaf Type:  Green

Where to Buy:  Tea Licious

Product Description:

green tea with peppermint leaves

Taster’s Review:

The green tea in this blend is a gunpowder green, evidenced by the tiny pellets of green tea in the dry leaf.  Sometimes, I find gunpowder green teas to be a bit on the harsh side, but not tonight.  This is very pleasant, with a light vegetative quality and no bitterness.  There is a lightly drying astringency at the finish.

The peppermint is crisp and cooling, but it is not overpowering (peppermint can be somewhat aggressive and take over a blend, that didn’t happen here).  There is a good balance between mint and green tea flavor.

The sip begins with a sweet introduction of mint and green tea, with the peppermint maintaining its presence throughout the sip.  The green tea is present in the beginning, drops off a little, and by the end comes through with a slight grassy note and the astringency.  The aftertaste is sweet and minty.

I love sipping on a mint tea after a meal.  It is soothing on the stomach and it helps to freshen the palate after heavy (or spicy!) foods.  A great tea to keep on hand when you might need a little minty refreshment!

Tasters Review:

I’ve said it before and I will say it again and again…I LOVE MINTY TEAS!

I’m often on the go and can’t always enjoy a cup of loose leaf especially a good minty one at that.  Organic Sencha Mint from Eden Goods is the way to go while on the go!  It’s in a bag but the flavor is tremendous!  The sencha tastes more like a cucumber type tasting green than a buttery or grassier green tea taste.  The mint is great!  I can taste the spearmint a bit more than the peppermint.  It’s quite powerful and very refreshing!

As I am a mint freak – tho – I do like this tea!

Ingredients:  Organic White Loose-Leaf Teas, Wild Roses, Organic Peppermint, Seasonally Selected Botanicals

Characteristics:  Refreshing, Mild, Fragrant, Organic

Taster’s Review:

I just love (me Amoré?) the aroma of this brewed liquor.  The blending of roses and mint is not a scent combination I would have really thought of before but together the two create quite a delightful fragrance.

And an even more delightful flavor!

The flavor of this tea is on the delicate side, but that is to be expected when it comes to white tea.  But even though the tea notes are soft, the peppermint and rose flavors are balanced so they do not overwhelm the delicious flavor of the white tea.  It tastes light and fresh with a pleasant sweet note.

The mint with the white tea gives this cup a breathtaking quality!  Very crisp – like a breath of fresh mountain air!  It’s really quite beautiful to experience.  It’s cool and clean to taste and even a little exhilarating, while the white tea smooths these notes out just enough to make this not only an invigorating tea, but a calming one as well.

And then there is the rose!  What a magnificent flavor the rose adds to this cup.  It is lightly sweet and floral and adds just the right feminine touch to this tea.  Overall, this is a pleasant and mellow cup.  Perfect for those quiet “me” moments!  Me Amoré!
