Milky Alishan High Mountain Oolong from Oollo Tea is one of those teas you didn’t know you MISSED until you had another cuppa after a long pause in between. A classic case of ‘you don’t know what you have until it’s gone’ I guess.
Once upon a sniff I knew right away this was a Milky Alishan. It’s been TOO LONG since my last solid milky aroma like this! The tea liquor is pretty pale creamy yellow but the flavor is the true shining star here! There is a real freshness to this sip one that is minty without actually having MINT in it. It’s crisp and clean. There is a sweet yet creamy linger to it that goes on for miles!
Milky Alishan High Mountain Oolong from Oollo Tea has those amazing thirst-quenching capabilities and as it cools a bit at room temperature the floral notes come out to play more.
The layers of flavor continue to amaze me. I take an enchanting journey into its complexity.
I’ve enjoyed a slew of Milky Alishans but there is something about this one, specifically, that stands out. I’m not sure what it is but I LOVE it. Milky Alishan High Mountain Oolong from Oollo Tea is a true gem!

Description:
The character of a pot of tea tells a story about the leaf it originated from. Good tea is a mixed blessing for tea farmers; in general, the harder the tea plant struggles to grow, the more flavorful and tempered the finished brew becomes. For this reason higher elevation with colder temperatures and thinner air produces outstanding leaf.
The 2016 spring harvest of Mountain Oolong withstands high temperature water longer without introducing dryness to the flavor, producing a forgiving and well-behaved pot of tea for the busy brewer. The steeped cup reflects a beautifully clear yet deep honey gold color; the nose is creamy sweet over a faint, nostalgic scent of rice flower bud. Notes for this crop are sharp and floral, paired with a robust body. Expect flavors of citrus blossom mostly, nasal and high in the mouth. Properly brewed we found that this tea has even greater re-steep potential than past flushes, up to six or seven.

Glendale Nilgiri Oolong by The Tea Shelf
I wanted something calming to drink tonight and this sample intrigued me. An Indian oolong? I have had black tea from India and green tea from India, but I don’t recall ever having an Indian oolong, and I believe this may even be my first Nilgiri. Well, I’m game! Let’s try it!
The dry leaves have such a soothing aroma. At first I thought it was a floral scent, but the more I inhaled the more I thought of sweet pastries in a glass case releasing their scent when you open the case to take one out, like a breath of sugar and vanilla and spice. I would be all over a candle that smelled like this. I would burn it all the time and fill my house with this scent.
The tea is fairly light in color, about what I expect from a oolong tea. First impression – a light, wet oolong/green flavor that is followed by a bloom of the honey and golden raisin notes, with a dry and lightly spicy follow up that lingers and makes you reach for the cup to sip again.
I really enjoyed trying this! It reminds me of a whisper of Golden Monkey melded with a spicy green tea. Fun!

Da Hong Pao from Teasenz
I really adore the whole gamut of Big Red Robe teas, from the sweet ones to the smokey and robust ones.
These twisted black leaves with only a few golden brown ones mixed in attest that this will be one of the roasty ones.
I tried this yesterday with Chocolate Silk Pound Cake, strawberries, and freshly whipped cream. It was fantastic with food, with a nutty flavor like dry walnut skin contrasted with a light underlying sweetness. I didn’t pick up on smoke as much as nuttiness.
Today I had a cup by itself, and was surprised to find that it tastes much smokier on its own, bordering on a mild Lapsang. (This is a Lapsang loving household!) The smoke was really front and center, whereas yesterday walnut predominated.
Both days I noticed a light drying effect which was nice with cake as its clears the palate. I really want to try it iced as well. I think it would be great!
