“Nostalgia” 2016 Traditional Oolong from Global Tea Hut

I was completely THRILLED when I received a package in the mail from Global Tea Hut recently! It contained August and September’s issues and teas inside and today I am sharing September’s “Nostalgia” 2016 Traditional Oolong from Global Tea Hut in this post!

One of these days I will most likely be reviewing an issues or at least the publication side of the Global Tea Hut but for today I wanted to focus solely on this lovely tea. “Nostalgia” 2016 Traditional Oolong from Global Tea Hut has an aroma of a slightly roasted or toasted oolong. It hails from Li Shan, Taiwan, and is a 2016 traditional Oolong grown at 2000 meters. The tightly rolled leaves are a dark shade of brown.

The aroma – once infused – is airy, light, and a bit roasty and/or toasty, a bit nutty, and nature-like. “Nostalgia” 2016 Traditional Oolong from Global Tea Hut leaves an admiral glowing hue in the cup. The flavor is straight-up squeaky clean, nutty, gently vegetal, and ever-so-slightly-roasted.

As I sip on “Nostalgia” 2016 Traditional Oolong from Global Tea Hut it takes me to another place…a natural setting in its purist form…a place where I can meditate and listen to nature, myself, and the tea at hand. “Nostalgia” 2016 Traditional Oolong from Global Tea Hut leaves me at peace with my surroundings and myself. Oh…if I could always have this sense of well-being.

Spring Hickory Oolong Tea from Plum Deluxe

I’m not sure sure WHY but for some reason I thought Spring Hickory Oolong Tea from Plum Delux contained CHICORY in it but it DOESN’T.  Which is ok because I’m not a HUGE fan of Chicory but I don’t necessarily hate it either.  So at first when I  Spring Hickory Oolong Tea from Plum Delux I was thinking to myself…’wow…the chicory in this isn’t that bad’ well that’s because there isn’t any in there that is why!  Okay..crazy tangent over…on to the actual review of this tea…shall we?

Spring Hickory Oolong Tea from Plum Delux DOES contain oolong, orange peel, cinnamon, and pecan essence.  I would say that the ratio or breakdown was ‘pretty even-steven’.   So 25/25/25/25 split of flavors on my tongue!

I have enjoyed  Spring Hickory Oolong Tea from Plum Delux both HOT and COLD.  I cannot decide which I like better.  Both have an extremely pleasing flavor which is flavored oolong with orange-cinnamon.  The pecan flavors do seems to shine more when cold, however.

I’m not sure if this is a tea that would be enjoyed specifically in the spring months.  I’m enjoying  Spring Hickory Oolong Tea from Plum Delux months later and I think it’s pretty fabulous!

Whouffle From Adagio’s Signature Blends

Being a Whovian, I have a soft spot for anything Doctor Who related. Especially for any Doctor Who teas. I can’t get enough of them. So I just had to try this one.

This particular blend even screams out more to me since it isn’t an earl grey blend. Whouffle is a blend of almond and raspberry black teas mixed with vanilla oolong. There is also a generous dose of cinnamon thrown in. With Adagio Signature Blends, they can heavy with the black teas and taste muddy. This has to be one of the best ones I’ve ever had.

Think about a gorgeous dessert comprised of an almond crust topped with a lush raspberry filling with a drizzle of a cinnamon syrup. That is what this tea tastes like. All of the flavors are insanely smooth and bursting with flavor.  I’m literally on my fourth infusion of the tea and although the flavors are weaker, this tea is still on point. I’ve even thrown in a shot of bourbon just to enjoy my evening even more.

Each sip of this tea has you wanting for more. This tea is sweet, smooth, and full of flavors. A wonderful substitute for any leftover Halloween candy that you might still be snacking on.

Whouffle will be a tea that I start buying in the big boy size from now on. And I would encourage everyone to do the same- even if you are a Doctor Who fan or not.

Inner Fire from Urbal Tea

Sometimes a tea aroma stumps my nose and today that tea is Inner Fire from Urbal Tea. This flavored Oolong/Green Rooibos/Yerba Mate blended base smells like cinnamon apple sauce with a hint of blueberry. The funny thing is I can’t see that it has ANY apple in the blend!

Inner Fire from Urbal Tea contains Dandelion leaf, Chickweed, Bilberry, Horsetail, Fennel, Yarrow, Eleuthero, Burdock root, Green Rooibos, Cinnamon, Rhodiola root, Dandelion root, Wuyi Wulong Oolong, Ginkgo, Yerba Mate, Green Mate, Licorice Root, Red Clover, Tulsi, Hibiscus, Blueberries, Cinnamon, Calendula flower, Corn Flower, and natural flavors.

I was feeling pretty confident that there were enough other ingredients to combat the hibiscus that was in there and I was right! I could taste a pleasant combination of herbs in my first sip followed by various berries. I was able to pick up on the fennel, green rooibos, Yerba Mate, and Tulsi in follow-up sips.

I appreciate the blends I have tried so far from Urbal Tea because of the massive amounts of herbs that go in them. They all seems to play together nicely. I think that is harder to do the more herbs you throw in the mix but Urbal Tea does it right! They also use just the right amount of hibiscus – when they do use hibiscus. When it comes to Inner Fire from Urbal Teas I’m thrilled they used a blended base of Oolong, Green Rooibos, and Yerba Mate…I’m not sure if I have had a trio based combo using these three before – let alone one that incorporates so many awesome herbs! 2 thumps up on this one!

Oo’ Peppermint from Harlow Tea Co

So let me just start by saying I am not the biggest oolong fan. Often times, I find the base takes over and if you aren’t a lover of that type of tea, it can be hard to overcome that. With that said, I am happy to report that is not a problem here. The oolong is present but subtle, providing a slightly floral foundation on which the other flavors are shining.

The star here is the peppermint. This did not come as a surprise in light of the tea being named Oo’ Peppermint. That plus the dry leaf had a whole lot of of mint leaves. It’s bright and fresh and provides a crisp yet smooth flavor.

However, this is more than just your typical peppermint tea. The dry leaf had almond pieces, tulsi leaves, and vanilla beans as well. The tulsi adds a hint of clove flavor to add a touch of spice while the almond counters that with a slight sweetness lingering beneath the mint. I am not getting as much vanilla as I hoped, especially since vanilla-mint, is a favorite combination of mine, but there is a bit of a creaminess to this tea that could be attributed to the vanilla beans. I just wish there was more vanilla flavor.

This is a lovely introduction to Harlow Tea Co., a new company for me, and though I wanted a little bit more from this tea it is still making for a pleasant evening treat. If you are a peppermint fan, this is a great tea for you because it will give you that peppermint flavor and then some.

Do you love peppermint, well I hope so! This tea gives a kick of peppermint that lingers long after that last sip is taken! Oolong has long, pun intended, been known as an all around pleasing tea for those who may find green tea too bitter and black tea too strong. Love both, then oolong is a perfect combination of the two!

Oo’ Peppermint offers hints of almond and is balanced with pieces of vanilla bean. You may even see some vanilla bean seeds in your tea!

Ingredients:
Oolong tea, peppermint leaf, almond pieces, tulsi leaf, and vanilla bean.
