Taster’s Review:

Before I get into this – the final review of NudiTea’s teas – I want to tell you a little bit about the packaging!  The teas are packaged in mylar lined, kraft pouches that are handsomely stamped with the name of the tea.  There isn’t really anything that stands out so much about the pouches, but what did stand out to me is the way these pouches were packaged in the box.

NuditeapackageThe teas were wrapped up in Kraft paper and then tied with twine cord and there was a little tag tied onto the cord, like a gift!  I’ve mentioned before that I love it when there is some special attention paid to details like this.  It was such a joy to receive this package!

But the packaging wouldn’t mean a whole lot if I didn’t enjoy the teas.  Fortunately, I found their Body tea to be tasty and I also enjoyed their Focus blend.  And I’m actually quite enjoying this Unwind blend too!

As I’ve said (many times) – I’m just not all that excited when it comes to chamomile.  However, chamomile is certainly a useful herb when it comes to unwinding and sometimes, I need to do just that so I turn to chamomile when I need to relax and destress.

Today is a day like that – I’ve had a very busy day and now it’s time to calm down and get ready to rest.  So, I brewed a cup of Unwind Tisane from NudiTea.  This is a blend of Egyptian chamomile and spearmint.

And while chamomile isn’t my favorite herb, I have to admit that I’m finding this blend to be rather tasty.  The sweet, apple-y, honeyed notes of the chamomile meld really nicely with the minty notes of the spearmint.  Normally, I prefer peppermint over spearmint because I like the zestier flavor of the peppermint, but for a calming, relaxing herbal tea such as this, spearmint is the perfect choice.  It’s a little softer and the chamomile helps to soften it even more so that I’m just getting a smooth, even minty note without the sense of invigoration that I often experience with mint teas.

If you want your tisane a little sweeter, add a dollop of honey.  I found it to be quite enjoyable straight.  Very soothing, very relaxing and a really nice way to “unwind”!

Taster’s Review:

The dry leaf of this Focus Green Tea from NudiTea is extraordinarily fragrant!  It smells amazing!  Like wow, can I get this scent in a bar of soap or perhaps a wax tart that you melt to make the whole room smell like that!  It’s strongly floral without smelling like a flower shop, because there are lovely notes of pineapple that balance the flowery notes.  Lovely!

The brewed tea has a softer aroma but otherwise smells quite similar – beautiful floral notes with notes of pineapple.

To brew this tea, I used my Breville One-Touch.  I measured two bamboo scoops of the loose leaf tea into the basket of the tea maker, and 500ml of freshly filtered water into the kettle.  Then I set the parameters:  175°F for 2 minutes.

It’s a really tasty blend!  The green tea is sweet and has a nice creamy texture to it.  I like that the texture is light but there is a soft creamy feel to it.  It doesn’t taste sharp or bitter, it’s sweet, lightly buttery with some grassy notes.

I taste passion fruit.  The way the description is worded, it seems that it’s passion fruit flowers … but I’m tasting passion fruit.  Sweet, luscious passion fruit!  Yum!  I also get a hint of pineapple from this.  Just a hint.

As far as the floral notes go, I taste the sweetness of the rose and mallow flowers, and I taste the sharp sunflower notes.

The fruit and the floral notes are pretty evenly paired – neither is really stronger than the other.  The fruit is sweet and with just a whisper of tangy flavor while the floral notes add a hint of exotic flavor to it and a touch of distinct flower sweetness.

Overall, this is a pleasant cuppa – it’s sweet but not in a cloying way.  It’s got a nice layered flavor:  layers of flower are the top notes with the middle notes of juicy passion fruit and the undertone of Sencha.

My one criticism – if you want to call it that – would be the addition of the chamomile to this blend.  Why chamomile?  Chamomile tends to be a relaxing herb, not one that I associate with being focused and alert.  I don’t really taste a lot of chamomile in this, maybe once in a while I might pick up on a honey-like flavor that’s quite chamomile-ish but it still is an ‘odd’ ingredient in a tea that is to support a sense of “Focus.”

Taster’s Review:

As I’ve said before, I have my reservations about teas that claim to help you lose weight.  I have never drank a tea based on its health claims, I drink tea because I love tea.

So, I won’t be reviewing this Body Tea from NudiTea based upon what it claims it can or cannot do.  I’ll be reviewing it based on what it tastes like.

The dry leaf smells very herbaceous, a bit like an herb garden.  The brewed liquid has kind of a weird smell.  It’s not the most appetizing smell, either.  It’s unfortunate to me because I usually inhale the fragrance of a tea before sipping and this generally enhances the overall experience.  Since I’m not digging this scent, I don’t want to deeply inhale the fragrance and I feel like part of the experience is lost.

As for the taste:  it’s actually kind of tasty.  I’m surprised to say it!  I might not enjoy the aroma of the brewed tisane but the flavor is quite pleasant.

I love the warmth of the fennel and I am enjoying the way the five ingredients – Alfalfa, hawthorn berries, dandelion root, fennel and nettle – interact with each other.  It’s a warm and comforting beverage.  Not really spicy but there is some warmth from the fennel, as I said, and while it does have somewhat of an herbaceous taste, given the ingredients, I expected it to taste a little more herby than it actually does.  There seems to be a palatable balance of flavors in this tisane.

As I said at the start, I’m skeptical about any claims of weight loss that a tea might make.  But, if I were going to try to embark upon a weight-loss-by-tea regime, I wouldn’t mind making this particular tea part of my daily routine.  It’s actually quite pleasant and it’s surprises me just how much I’m enjoying this!
