Super Tea (Matcha Green Tea) from Pure Chimp

It’s about time I review a Matcha – don’t you think – so what not Super Tea (Matcha Green Tea) from Pure Chimp!?

The Pure Chimp Crew sent us their Super Tea (Matcha Green Tea) for consideration and let me tell you – boy oh boy have I considered – Super Tea (Matcha Green Tea) from Pure Chimp!  I CONSIDER it to be a very good straight-up Matcha!

The aroma – once the water was added – was quite ‘green’ but it a semi-creamy sort of way!  Super Tea (Matcha Green Tea) from Pure Chimp tastes like it smells!  It’s a medium vegetal green flavor with a certain natural creaminess to it.  I have to make special note of the aftertaste of this one!  It’s clean and crisp for a Matcha.  It’s not bitter, it’s not stale, and it’s not too dark-vegetal that THAT is the only thing you taste in the aftertaste.  I really appreciate that about this Super Tea (Matcha Green Tea) from Pure Chimp.

I’m VERY pleased with this straight-up matcha – Super Tea (Matcha Green Tea) from Pure Chimp!  I see that they have flavors like Lemon and Mint.  I would LOVE to try those as well!  Those might have to go on my wishlist!

Taster’s Review:

I have been on a matcha craze for the last few days. I don’t know why. Matcha isn’t something I typically drink but will admit that I do go thru spells where I crave it.  I guess I’m in one of those moods right now.  When it comes to matcha, I’m incredibly picky.  A lot of matcha to me tastes incredibly bitter and I usually have to add in some honey to pep up the flavor.

When I stumbled upon these matcha sticks on Amazon from Magus Brands, I had to check them out. I love the convenience and idea of a to go version of matcha. I am usually prone to making what I call “matcha messes” in the kitchen when I’m scooping out the fine powder so the fact these are in a one serving pouch already delights me to no end.

To prep the matcha up, I just pour in almond milk in my blender bottle and the contents of one of the pouches, shake it up and I’m set and ready to go.  You really can’t get any easier than that. So the convenience factor gets an A+++ from me.

The flavor is exactly what you want from matcha.  Slightly sweet with a subtle bitter edge that tastes amazing.  The flavor is creamy and is simple yet completely satisfying.  This is one of those matchas that makes you want to keep drinking and drinking and drinking it. Froths up nicely and looks gorgeous!

I haven’t tried it yet with water but I’m off to do that now. This is just delicious and perfect for this summer weather! Refreshing and delightful! I’m happy!

Peach Matcha from 3 Leaf Tea

PeachMatchaTea Information:

Leaf Type:  Matcha

Where to Buy: 3 Leaf Tea

Tea Description:

With it’s fruity aroma and juicy taste, you won’t want to put this peach matcha down! Crisp and light the peach flavor mingles with the vibrant green taste of matcha.
Preparation & Recipes:
Hot Latte: Whisk 1 tsp of matcha with 1 tsp of sugar in 2 oz of hot (170°F) water. Add 6 oz of hot milk and stir.
Iced Latte: Whisk 1 tsp of matcha with 1 tsp of sugar in 2 oz of hot (170°F) water. Add 6 oz of cold milk and stir. Pour over ice.
Traditional: Whisk 1/4-1/2 tsp of matcha in 6 oz of (170°F) water.
Smoothie: Add 1 tsp matcha, 1 banana, 1 cup milk, handful of ice, and 1 tsp sugar or honey into blender. Blend until smooth.
Orange Juice: Add 1/2 tsp of sifted matcha to 1 cup of orange juice in a shaker bottle. Shake well until matcha is fully blended.
Food: Sprinkle matcha on top of yogurt, cottage cheese, granola or add it into a recipe (check out our recipe page for ideas!)
Tips:
  1. Traditionally, a bamboo whisk, also called a chasen, is the preferred tool to whisk matcha. A chawan, or matcha bowl is also used. If those items are not available, a small metal whisk and a wide bowl or mug to accommodate room for whisking can be used.
  2. Water temperature is important for the matcha to maintain it’s sweet flavor and avoid turning bitter. Water temperatures below 170° F are recommended.
  3. Matcha is stored best in an airtight, light proof container. To maintain maximum freshness, store in refrigerator.
  4. Sifting matcha through a fine mesh strainer before use helps remove clumps and creates a smoother consistency.

Ingredients: Matcha, natural flavors

Taster’s Review:

Today I would like to talk/write about this Peach Matcha from 3 Leaf Tea.  Peach Matcha from 3 Leaf Tea seems to give me the yin and the yang that I am craving in a flavored matcha!  Let me explain…

Upon opening this sample packet of Peach Matcha from 3 Leaf Tea I was smacked in the face with intense peach aroma.  I LOVED the scent of this Peach Matcha!  It made me wonder if it was going to be ALL Peach and NO Matcha when it came to flavor.  Let me tell you that was NOT the case.  Once I whisked my hot matcha up in my cup I took my first sip and what I found was MAJOR defined and STRONG green matcha flavor with an underlying peach flavor!  This strong matcha base is not for wimps!  It’s of the stronger matchas I have sipped on that is for sure!

The peach certainly takes over the aroma but not the taste!  I put these findings in the PRO category of my opinion here!  This is a fantastic cup of matcha!

As a test I did find the less you use of the matcha mix the more you pick up on the peach especially once the water temperature cools naturally at room temperature.  So…moral of the story…if you want to start with a little less and work your way up…I think that would be ok for those who might not like a strong matcha taste.  Lucky for me – I do!

Leaf Type:  Green

Tea Description:

I reblended this tea to fulfill part of our start-up Kickstarter campaign’s add-on offers! This was part of the Genmaicha 3-Tier collection – a yummy blend of Matcha infused Genmaicha green tea and chocolate and marshmallow flavors. I added cacao shells & nibs, mini vegan chocolate chips and marshmallow root to the blend. This is yummy!

Taster’s Review:

This gemaicha is a perfect tea for the weather out there today! I’ve battened down the hatches and hunkered down, because the outside world has turned completely white. I’m living in a surreal ghost town of powder. It certainly doesn’t help that the wind keeps whipping up the 3 feet of snow that has already fallen. I can’t even open my front door! And to think it was almost 70 degrees yesterday. That’s Denver spring for ya.

I can’t believe I have already finished this package! I received the 3-tier genmaicha tin set from 52Teas’ initial kickstarter not too long ago. At first I didn’t care for the flavor, especially with the chocolate pieces. It’s a personal pet peeve of mine to have chocolate chips in tea. But I love the flavors of marshmallows and graham crackers, and I did not want to allow these chocolate abominations to keep me from enjoying this tea. So I just picked out and straight up ate the chocolate chips. May I just say that they are a great compliment to the tea – better than if they were in the blend, fusing to the sides of my teapot and creating an odd sludge.

I quickly became addicted to this blend. I think I drank nothing but this tea for about a week straight. It’s so on point – each flavor is well developed and distinct, from the smooth and mellow marshmallow to the crisp and sweet graham cracker right up to the vegetal grassiness and toasty rice flavor of the genmaicha. I love flavored genmaicha, and this blend is a great combination of a funky flavor idea and the classic Japanese green tea.

Product Review: Return of The Mega Matcha Showdown! Part 1

topmatchaphotoIt’s that time once again!

I have taken the (perhaps crazy) task of reviewing even more matcha than I anticipated:  Red Leaf Tea has asked me and a handful of skilled bloggers to take on the task of testing and comparing 30 or so different matcha in a large price range. I have been lax on comparing them, with traveling and whatnot, but I need to get cracking. Without further ado, here is the basic criteria in with I will be judging the teas by: Color, Texture, and Sweetness.

Note:  All the teas were provided to me for review by Red Leaf Tea. I was not aware of which brands were which beforehand.

Sample1
Starter Matcha

Starter Matcha

  • Color: 3
  • Sweetness: 5
  • Texture: 4

The first sample I had was a light olive drab. The matcha woke up a bit with some hot water, but did not foam very well. Even though this tea was a tad gritty, it was smooth and grassy, in a good way.

sample2
Deluxe Matcha

Deluxe Matcha

  • Color: 6
  • Sweetness: 5
  • Texture: 6

I would recognize RLT’s matcha anywhere, thanks to the last taste test. This floral and sweet matcha this one was an improvement.. A muted grassy color, I got some really nice foam from it, but it may have just been through practice, heh. The mixture was surprisingly tart, but still quite smooth.

sample3
JK Tea Shop Ceremony Grade Matcha

JK Tea Shop Ceremony Grade Matcha

  • Color: 6
  • Sweetness: 5
  • Texture: 5

Third one up! This one had a bit of a wet paint smell to it. The powder was a lighter, pastel shade of spring green. Not a favorite.

Sample4
Classic Matcha

Classic Matcha

  • Color: 6
  • Sweetness: 7
  • Texture: 6

Phew. At this time I realized that I had made a grave mistake. I hadn’t eaten before starting testing these, and I sure was feeling the effects. This one was the sweetest so far, with a lemony, acidic finish. It was a happy green color, which was promising.

sample5
Kiwami Supreme Ceremonial Matcha

Kiwami Supreme Ceremonial

  • Color: 7
  • Sweetness: 7
  • Texture: 7

This one smelled and tasted just like pistachios! There was some strong marine notes as well, and a smoothness to round it out.

Sample6
Yunomi Excellent Kitchen Grade Matcha

Yunomi Excellent Kitchen Grade Matcha

  • Color: 7
  • Sweetness: 8
  • Texture: 7

A really good one in the bunch. It also has a good color, not as neon as #4, but what this one lacks in color, it makes up in taste.

Thanks for tuning in folks! Will it ever end? Stay tuned next time for another installment of Matcha Madness!
