I was unable to locate a product description of this SPECIFIC tea on their website.  However, here is a little bit more info on the Sourenee Estate and the Sourenee Black Blossom.

Sourenee like most other Darjeeling gardens has an interesting story behind its name. Bjoujit Rai, son of the erstwhile Dakman Rai, who was as responsible for the establishment of Darjeeling as Llyod, established Soureni garden by planting “Saur” – a kind of medicinal tree which grows in this region, and “Rani” which means ‘the Queen of the Valley’. A combination of those two words formed the name of the garden. It is a tea garden with a unique scenic beauty. Though the age of the tea estate is more than 100 years old, its oldest tea shrubs are now being replaced with new clonal plants in stages.Description: Sourenee Tea Estate, in West Bengal, India has been in operation producing highest – quality Darjeeling tea for more than 100 years. Their current goal is to further their established reputation for manufacturing world – class, delicious tea by the addition of Organic Certification.

Sourenee tea known as the Black Blossom, these tea leaves are carefully plucked at an altitude of 5000 ft. We found the flavor of this Sourenee to be exquisite – fresh, simple, and smooth, without any harshness or tendency toward astringency. Fresh muscatel flavor ; if you want a Darjeeling tea full of flavor and character, this is the Darjeeling for you.

Tasters Review:
Sourenee SFTGFOP 1 Organic 2nd Flush 2013 Darjeeling from Lochan Tea Unlimited…oh how I enjoy thee!   The flavor is a little bit on the masculine side without being harsh or astringent.  Upfront there is a gentle woodsy spec of flavor that merges into a more smooth and creamy mid-sip.   It’s not as dry as some Darjeelings tend to be.  I like that.  The aftertaste is a bit sweeter than I expected but don’t get me wrong it’s a pleasant surprise!  I really enjoyed it.  Lochan has come out with several Darjeelings that I intend on sharing with  you in the near future.  I haven’t met one I didn’t like!

Tasters Review:

Never underestimate a GOOD Quality Assam!  Yes…this is GOOD…but it’s more than that!  It’s DARN GOOD…it’s GREAT even!  This is a fabulous tasting Assam!  There…I said it!  Even tho I was unable to located the product description on their website I am told by the packaging that this is a VERY new tea.  The packaging says: Lochan Tea Limited – 27.08.2013 Harmutty STGFOP 1 CL 2nd Flush 2013 Assam.

From the research I have done over the years on the Harmutty Tea Estate – their teas are known for their rich taste.  After sipping on this tea for just a moment I would totally agree!  The flavor is rich but also malty with highlights of cocoa powder and/or a slight mellow coffee taste (if you over infuse it a bit).  It has an impressive Copper Brown color to it in the cup.  The after taste leaves a gentle pepper lingering in your mouth and throat.

This is a 2nd Flush you do NOT want to miss!  An Assam that is quite Awesome!  If you can get your hands on it – don’t pass it up!

Taster’s Review:

This is a delicious Assam.  Very flavorful!

The sip starts out with a sweetness that is caramel-y.  In fact, that was my first reaction to my first sip:  “Sweet!”  There are hints of fruit – plum?  These flavors make for an interesting introduction to this full-bodied, robust tea.

About mid-sip, a hint of savory bitterness comes along – just at the right time, to cut through the sweetness and make the taste even more interesting.  The sip ends with a strong astringency – almost a pucker-y astringency!  This is a hefty black tea with the strength to get you going in the morning.

The malty note to this Assam is also there – I would categorize it at a medium amount of malt.  Not as much malt as some Assam teas I’ve tried, but then, a little more than some others.  The malt together with the biscuit-y quality of this tea gives this a well-rounded taste.

This is my first sampling of a tea from Lochan Tea Limited, and I’ve quite enjoyed it.  The leaves are of good quality and the proof is in the flavor.  Even though this particular flush is no longer available from Lochan, I recommend watching their website for the 2011 flush … it will be well worth the effort.  This is a good Assam!
