You may have already gathered that I’m a fan of Lochan’s straight-up black teas. They almost always provide that heft I’m looking for to get my day going! Oaks SFTGFOP 1 CL SPL 2nd Flush 2016 Darjeeling Organic from Lochan Tea Limited isn’t one of their most sturdy teas but it’s still one of their very scrumptious teas!
If you are looking for that stereotypical darjeeling taste with a twist try Oaks SFTGFOP 1 CL SPL 2nd Flush 2016 Darjeeling Organic from Lochan Tea Limited. It offers that muscatel yet sweet and sour woodsy taste with twists of citrus possible leaning more towards natural lime. The after taste – especially as it cools naturally at room temperature – seems to have a grape-skin or raisin-like comparison to it, as well. I tried sipping this a bit quicker – something I don’t usually do – but when I did I was able to detect some crusty flavors, too! Now that I have discovered this I might try it more in the future.
If you are new to darjeelings Oaks SFTGFOP 1 CL SPL 2nd Flush 2016 Darjeeling Organic from Lochan Tea Limited is a good place to start. If you are a darjeeling guru you will appreciate this as well. After all, Darjeelings are considered the ‘champagne of teas’. I’m really enjoying Oaks SFTGFOP 1 CL SPL 2nd Flush 2016 Darjeeling Organic from Lochan Tea Limited. Giddapahar SFTGFOP 1 CH 2nd Flush 2013, Darjeeling from Lochan Tea Limited
Tea Information:
Leaf Type: Black Tea
Where to Buy: Lochan Tea Limited
Tea Description:
This tea is no longer on their website however I can tell you more about the estate.
About the Tea Estate: Giddapahar is located on a mountain which is just a short drive from Kurseong. The garden is situated at 4864 feet above sea level. The Estate is a small family owned Darjeeling tea estate which is also known as “Eagles Cliff” lying very close to Kurseong town. From the estate, one can view the magnificent site of the mountains which also makes it the perfect site for taking photographs.
Giddapahar is almost 100% covered with pure china tea bushes and has followed the legendary classic grade production of Darjeeling Teas. The tea from Giddapahar Estate is very delicate due to the lower temperatures here and also because the area itself is covered by mist for a good part of the year. Teas are planted and picked by using traditional methods. Due to the temperature, the tea bushes from the estate produce a fine bouquet with great aromatic quality and a delicate floral smell.
Taster’s Review:
Eventho this Giddapahar SFTGFOP 1 CH 2nd Flush 2013, Darjeeling from Lochan Tea Limited is no longer listed on their site or available for purchase I wanted to give it an honorable mention because it really was a fabulous tea! As you can see from the description above the Giddapahar estate is a small family owned Darjeeling tea estate that is situated in a zone with lower temperatures which makes teas from this region very delicate.
This specific Darjeeling is mostly floral on the nose with hints of wet woodsy sniffs, too! The flavor matches the aroma and is first and foremost floral with wet woods on the end sip. I find this to be a good ‘working tea’ which means (to me) that I enjoying while working or writing trying to reach deadlines (such as this).
Have you had a tea recent that you rediscovered from your personal collection that deserves an honorable mention that may no longer be available for purchase? If so tell us in comments!

Tasters Review:
Eventho this tea is no longer on the Lochan Tea Limited Website I thought it was still worth a mention. So much so that I hope that Lochan Tea is able to get a 2014 or 2015 Flush of Sourenee Black Blossom. The 2013 that I tried was a 2nd flush of this previous Darjeeling and I thought it was fabulous!
Dry – the leaves were fairly tight – but when the hot water was added – the enlarged and flattened out to a much larger size. I’m chalking the multiple infusion capabilities to this leaf characteristic. But that’s just my theory. I was able to get at least 7 infusions out of the same batch over loose leaves. The color was a darker brown once infused. And if you like your black tea stronger – and tend to add more loose leaf to the water like I do (but infuse for a tad shorter) this stands up to the elements quite well. It doesn’t go bitter…at least from my experiences. It’s malty but at the same time it’s bright and brisk, too. Just when you think the leaves are towards the end of their flavor intensity is when I think the iced tea factor comes in to play. Yes…this tea also makes a pretty wonderful iced tea, too!
Overall – it’s safe to say I’m a BIG fan of this offering from Lochan Tea Limited but it just goes to show you that this company prides itself on offering the freshest flushes to its customers and you should get them before they are gone!

Taster’s Review:
I’m usually in the mood for a good Darjeeling, and this Dooteriah SFTGFOP 1 First Flush Darjeeling Tea from Lochan Tea Limited certainly qualifies as a good Darjeeling!
Generally speaking, when it comes to Darjeeling teas, I prefer a second flush to a first flush, because I love that muscatel note that the second flush is known for. However, that doesn’t mean that I don’t appreciate a good first flush when I find one. And I’m enjoying this one.
The flavor is very crisp and clean. I notice background notes of flower and some woodsy notes, with foreground notes of fruit. I’d consider this a medium bodied tea. It’s got an enjoyable lightness to it, my palate feels refreshed as I sip it.
This is one of the more astringent Darjeeling teas that I’ve tasted in some time, and there is some bitterness, so I recommend watching the brew time (I recommend 2 minutes) and a lower temperature when brewing (I recommend 190°F). This will help keep the bitterness to a minimum.
Overall, a fine Darjeeling, but if you’re one who tends to shy away from astringent teas, this one might not be for you. However, if you’re a fan of Darjeeling teas like I am, you should try this one.
