Taster’s Review:

This is a tea that scared me a little at first.  I love all the ingredients individually, and I love many of them in blends, but having tried at least one licorice and peppermint blend that I didn’t like (and, in fairness, I should mention that there is at least one that I can recall that I did enjoy), seeing that these two ingredients were on the list worried me a little.  I mean, I love licorice.  I love peppermint.  But together in one tisane?  I was skeptical.

The flavors here are all so very assertive, and yet the cup itself is not off-putting or overwhelming.  It is a strong yet tasty tisane.  I think that it is the assertiveness of the ingredients that really makes this flavor combination work!  I think that if there was an ingredient here that was a little less than assertive, it would be overwhelmed.  As it is, the flavors here are bright, strong and vibrant.

The ginger is the first flavor I taste, and I don’t know if that is because it’s the first flavor that I expect.  The ginger is nicely accented with the black pepper, and these two warm ingredients really spice things up nicely here.  The lemongrass seems to soften the edge of the ginger, giving the cup a sweet and somewhat creamy taste.  The citrus peels seem to enhance the lemon-y taste of the lemongrass just enough to make this a very pleasing, citrus-y tasting tisane.

Because of the strength of the ginger, citrus and black pepper, the licorice and peppermint don’t really have much of a chance to come off as repellent (and that is a VERY good thing!)  Instead, they act as highlight flavors, offering just enough of their distinctively zesty flavor to the cup when needed without overwhelming the balance of the cup.

This is a tisane I enjoyed much more than I thought I would.  It is smooth but with a lively, zippy flavor that really grabs my attention.  It is delicious and sweet and quite soothing after a spicy meal (I had some rather spicy tacos tonight!)  I am finding that this cup is just what I needed after that!

Tasters Review:

I just received this one today and tore it open right away.  This isn’t uncommon for me to do, mind you, I’m so eager to try new teas…I usually can’t stand waiting!

Many of you know my trials and tribulations with chai.  Either the spices are too strong, not strong enough, one or more ingredient is stronger over the others and distracts me from fully enjoying my cuppa…the list goes on and on!

I swear this specific chai was made especially for me.  Well, that’s my story and I am sticking to it, anyways!  The spices are PERFECTLY done to my liking and it has MINT…lovely, lovely MINT!  You know how I LOVE mint!  It’s not over the top mint…it’s JUST RIGHT!

Many of you know I drink all of my teas plain including chai.  This is perfect plain but the company states it’s great with or without additions.

I love the fact that it’s organic and Fair Trade!  I LOVE the concept of this company!  Their customer service is wonderful!  Their website is very nice!  I wish I lived near San Fran…I would be a daily customer to the cart!  In the meantime, I am completely enjoying this CHAI piece of art!  YUM!

I’m declaring this my FAVORITE Chai to date!

Tasters Review:
I’ve held off on trying and reviewing this herbal tea from Karma Blends because I haven’t been sick…but I can’t hold off any more!  I NEEDED to try it!

I thought it would be good to have right now because of the astringent tasting tea I just consumed…I thought the mint and eucalyptus would freshen my breath!

I will say this is very minty and refreshing aroma-wise!

Of course the primary taste is mint/eucalyptus but I am getting a good deal of licorice which I normally find distracting in most cases but not this one!  It works well as the 3rd noticeable flavor here!

Then the ginger pops in to say “hello” and again with ginger I am ‘hot and cold’.  I want to say I dislike it in teas more than like it BUT, again, it really works well in this herbal blend!

I can taste the Stevia.  It’s adds a nice natural-sugary undertone to this that I think helps tone down the ginger.

As it cools at room temperature the lemongrass is a little bit noticeable but it’s one of those ingredients I  probably wouldn’t have noticed in a blind taste-test.  Same thing with the Mango.  I can’t really taste the Mango at all.  I think it would be interesting if I could taste more of that.  Maybe more of that and a little less licorice would be the ONLY thing I would change about this one.  BUT…I am NOT complaining because I am really enjoying this.

If you are afraid of medicinal-type herbal teas…and enjoy mint…give this one a whirl!  This one really surprised me!  It’s quite good.

I’m having the bagged  version of this right now and it is very flavorful for a bagged tea!  The box suggested to try with honey and lemon to enhance the flavor.  I didn’t do this but I may try that in the future!

I have to say…this is probably on of my FAVORITE Medicinal-Type Herbal Tea/Tisanes I have had to date!

Goji Berry Blue from Praise Tea

Tea Information:

Leaf Type:  Green

Where to Buy:  Praise Tea

Product Description:

An antioxidant explosion of sencha green tea, gojiberries, blueberries, lemon grass, and pomegrante seeds.

Taster’s Review:

As I’ve professed before, I have somewhat of a ingrained response when it comes to Goji Berry.  That response is a hesitant recoil based upon the first time I tried a tea with Goji Berry.  The tea was incredibly tart – far too tart for me to enjoy it.  Since that time I have been less than enthused to try Goji Berry flavored teas.

And really, that’s an unfair response because since that time, the Goji Berry flavored teas have been quite delicious.  Like this one, for example.  This green tea is flavored with goji berries, blueberries, pomegranate and lemongrass.  And it’s absolutely amazing!

The fruit flavor is sweet with just a hint of tart.  The lemongrass adds a certain citrus-y element that accents the flavor of of the berries without overwhelming them.  There is a buttery note to the cup that I attribute to the green tea base as well as the lemongrass, it is a soft, creamy kind of note that doesn’t impart a strong buttery presence onto the palate – just a smooth sweetness that is quite delectable.

This tea is not what I would classify as “tart” even though there is a hint of tartness that hits the palate in the finish.  It is a pleasant note that sort of completes the overall taste profile.

While this would be absolutely amazing served over ice in the summer, I am finding it quite enjoyable as a hot beverage in the winter.   I found that a tiny bit of agave nectar brings out some of the sweeter qualities of the tea – especially the blueberry notes!

ingredients: oolong tea, green tea, green rooibos, lemongrass, lemon myrtle, citrus flavor, jasmine blossoms.

Taster’s Review:

I am really enjoying this blend.  I tasted it before I read the ingredient list, and I was happy to see that I could discern them without having read the list.

The Oolong tastes nutty and buttery and has a nice mouthfeel – rich and supple.  The green tea accentuates the buttery taste and lends a certain fresh taste to the cup, as does the green rooibos.  The combination of the Oolong, green tea and green rooibos creates a very full flavor for the palate without being overwhelming or too heavy.

I love the light yet satisfying flavor of this cup.  There is a light lemony note that is accentuated with hints of bergamot, and a very light jasmine note that lingers in the background.  Very refreshing!
