Lemon Poppyseed Muffin from A Quarter To Tea. . . .

“Malty rolled Yunnan tea with sweet lemon pastry and a vanilla glaze”. With a description like that, I was drooling long before I cut open the package to get into the Lemon Poppyseed Muffin Tea in A Quarter to Tea’s teabox. Easily one of the most underrated muffins, people don’t think much about the Lemon Poppyseed flavor until its put in front of them. And yet it’s always a pleasure when you have it so I was definitely intrigued to say the least.

I opened the package and was immediately enveloped in the smell of lemon poppyseed muffins. Bright and fresh yet also a touch sweet…and that’s just the scent of the dry leaf.

Upon my first taste, I’m impressed more than anything at how this captured “muffin”. It’s not baked goods. It’s not pastry. Somehow this is 100% a distinctly muffin tea. Not just any muffin either. It’s a fresh baked lemon poppyseed muffin, just out of the oven on a Sunday morning. The black tea is the perfect bready base while the lemon is soft and sweet. Somehow even the mouthfeel is thick enough (without being overwhelming) to sell the concept of “lemon poppyseed muffin”. Plus, the touch of vanilla is the icing on top of the cake…well, muffin. Smooth and gently creamy.

Honestly, this tea so accurately captures its namesake that I am half expecting to have to pick poppyseeds out of my teeth later. While some lemon teas can border on the edge of cleaning products, this manages to keep everything so perfectly balanced. It is a blast from the past and yet it’s making for one tasty present. Yum!

Blue Lady from Zest Tea

With a name like Blue Lady I thought this would be like Lady Grey, a type of earl grey. But I was mistaken! Not an earl grey, but a flowery orange pekoe.

Beyond the black tea, there is hibiscus and passion fruit, fragrant even in the dry leaf. Brewed, the black tea is bright and crisp, which pairs well with the juicy hibiscus. The sour red fruit taste of the hibiscus adds a jammy, berry flavor beneath the citrus tones of the orange pekoe.

This is not too sweet or sour, still very suitable for a breakfast cup of tea. With just enough tropical flair this blend is summery and satisfying, hot or iced.

And since this blend is from Zest Tea, there is added tea extract so you know each cup packs a punch of caffeine without the coffee jitters. When you want a juicier take on classic orange pekoe, brew up a mug of Blue Lady.

Lemon Myrtle from The Tea Can Company

Lemon Myrtle from The Tea Can Company is absolutely TEA…riffic! It contains high elevation Ceylon Black Tea, Lemon Peel, and Australian Lemon Myrtle. Just 3 ingredients give off an incredible flavor!

The first infusion had a hearty black tea base with sweet and slightly bitter lemon peel – as well as – juicy yet candied-sweet lemon flavors throughout the sip

The 2nd infusion still had a nice but more muted black tea base. The lemon peel flavor wasn’t as intense but the sweet-candied lemon myrtle was still shining bright!

I enjoyed BOTH infusions very much! The lemon was very true! The black tea base stood up strong against it but the two really joined hands and played well together! Lemon Myrtle from The Tea Can Company may be one of my favorites that I have tried from this company so far! It’s fabulous hot or cold!

YUMMO!

Taster’s Review:

If you haven’t tried or checked Plum Deluxe out, do yourself a favor and click on those links above. Plum Deluxe is one of those companies that just makes you happy from the start. I may not like every blend they create, but they always put 100% into each blend, truly care about their customers, and have even created an online community for their monthly tea subscribers that is extremely active. I don’t participate as often as I would like to but I always check out whats going on. They have swaps and lots of fun goings on in the group. So neat to see what Plum Deluxe has created.

I have been a customer of Plum Deluxe for some time. I enjoy getting my purple envelope each month full of loose leaf goodness. Like I said, I don’t enjoy every blend but I can always find someone to share the tea with.  Each blend is gorgeously hand blended giving you all the lovely tea feels you can want and more.

This month’s selection is a black tea, which I couldn’t be happier about. (I didn’t see this tea listed in the shop so I think this might be a subscriber only tea.)  My favorite blends that Plum Deluxe creates are black and green tea blends. Midnight Melange Black Tea is a lovely blend of lemon peel, black tea, hibiscus, vanilla, and rose petals. The pieces of lemon are huge and the smell of this tea blend is heavenly.

Prepped with boiling water, I scooped a few tsps into my infuser and steeped the tea for about 4 minutes.  I didn’t want to oversteep so I played it safe in the middle of the suggested parameters.  I allowed the tea to cool for a moment and took a sip.

This tea shines and is perfection! Lush lemon along with a sweet creamy vanilla finish.  There are hints of a tartness here and there from the hibiscus.  The hibiscus is subtle and completes the sweetness from the vanilla nicely. A simple yet complex tea all at the same time. Each flavor really shines and delivers a lovely and gorgeous finished product.

Can’t wait to try this tea as a cold brew. I’m hoping the lemon flavors pop even more.

Another well crafted tea from Plum Deluxe!
