Taster’s Review:

Once again, Kally Tea delivers what it promises with its alluring tea names.  The name of the tea is Almond Fondant, and this tastes a lot like almond fondant (or marzipan!)

This tisane has a rooibos base, and while rooibos is not usually my favorite herb, in this case, I find that the natural flavors of the rooibos actually work to the benefit of the tisane.  The natural nutty flavor of the rooibos accents the almond notes very nicely, giving the cup a very delicious, nutty flavor.

There is some sweetness to this cup as well, and I’m very pleased with the balance of sweet and earthy tones.  There is also a light creaminess to this, and I don’t know if that comes from the almond flavor or if there is a vanilla flavoring in this as well.  But, I find that this creaminess takes the other flavors to the next level, giving it that fondant-like flavor.

This is a very tasty dessert tisane, and I like that it’s naturally caffeine-free, making it an excellent late-night treat that you can indulge in with no guilt, because there’s zero calories!

Taster’s Review:

I couldn’t help but chuckle a little when I read the above description.  “Ahhhh… Lavender!”  was exactly the words that I murmured when I first took a sip of this tisane!  Sweet, beautiful, wonderful lavender!

Lavender is one of my very favorite culinary botanicals, but I find few companies who really know how to blend with it properly.  It’s one of those herbs that if you use too little, it won’t be tasted … but if you use even a little too much, the flavor becomes soapy.

Fortunately, Kally Tea knew what they were doing with lavender when they set out to create this Evening Indigo tisane.  Lavender is the strongest flavor, but it is nicely offset with lemongrass, rose petals, and the essence of mango and lemon.  These additions allow the lavender to shine as the prominent flavor without allowing the lavender to taste like the perfume shop in the mall.

This tisane is citrus-y with hints of mango and rose, but mostly … this tisane showcases lavender at its very best!

The cup brews to a pretty lavender blue color, and the infusion smells amazing.  (The dry leaf smells – and looks! – like potpourri!  So lovely!)  But even more amazing than the aroma or the appearance is just how delightful it tastes, and the calm it instills as I sip it.

I think I shall have sweet indigo dreams tonight, thanks to Kally Tea.

Taster’s Review:

As you may be aware, I’m quite fond of Earl Grey teas, and I’m always excited to try a variation on the classic Earl Grey.  So, when I saw this tea on Kally Tea’s website (it’s really a lovely website – and very easy to navigate!) I knew I had to try it.

The verdict?  This is a fabulous twist on the classic Earl Grey I so adore!

The black tea base is pleasant and mellow, not what I’d call overly bold or aggressive as far as black teas go.  But, I am quite happy with its strength here, because, with the other flavors that are going on with this cup, a stronger black tea would have overwhelmed some of the delicate notes that I’m enjoying.

The first note that I really noticed was the floral presence of this tea.  It isn’t a STRONG floral note, but, it is quite pleasant – like a medley of flowers in the distance.  I think that this floral tone highlights the bergamot flavor in a really lovely way here, and it is especially appreciated because of the fact that the bergamot flavor is a bit milder than in a typical Earl Grey blend.

While I generally do appreciate a strong bergamot essence, with this particular cup, I think that the amount of bergamot flavor is just perfect.  It is strong enough to provide its delicious, tangy citrus note, but it doesn’t overpower the hint of apple and caramel that give this blend it’s aforementioned fabulous twist.

The apple is very subtle, and I think that the presence of the bergamot accentuates it rather than subdues it.  But it’s the caramel that I’m really loving.  It’s sweet and adds such a lovely contrast to the bergamot’s distinctive tangy flavor.  Together, these flavors – bergamot, caramel, and apple – work together to create a deliciously different “Earl Grey” that I LOVE!

This is the second tea that I’ve tried from Kally Tea and I am – again – impressed by what I’ve tasted.  I am also quite impressed with Kally Tea’s website presentation as well as their packaging!  Their teas come packaged in black flexible, resealable pouch … but what I really like about it is that it’s wider than most of the packaging like this that I’ve come across.  Normally, the narrow packages that are utilized by many companies can be difficult to scoop out tea, but with these extra wide pouches, it is easy to scoop out the tea … even when you’re getting down to the last little bit at the end of the package!  It may seem like a small thing, but, I think it’s these little details that make a world of difference!

Another wonderful tea experience thanks to Kally Tea!  This tea goes on my shopping list!  I need more!

Taster’s Review:

This tea smells so good.  It smells like freshly baked cookies!

It has a taste that reminds me of freshly baked cookies as well.  Sweet with a delicious nutty flavor, and even a hint of that rich, bread-y taste that makes me think of home made cookies.

The black tea is a flavorful blend of black teas.  The description suggests that it is a blend of Ceylon and Indian teas, which leads me to automatically think Assam.  And there is a certain malty tone in the background that also suggests that there is Assam in the blend.  However, I find that it is a bit lighter than a typical Assam, so if there is Assam in this blend, it hasn’t been added with a heavy hand.  I’m kind of torn with that, as I think that some more Assam would enhance the richness of the cup, but, I really like the way it tastes now.

The nutty flavor is well pronounced with the presence of both pistachio and almond, but, I am finding the honey to be a stronger flavor.  I can also taste the coconut which gives the cup a sweet, creamy flavor and ties the “baked goods” flavor together quite well.

There is also an intriguing floral tone in the background that I did not expect to find.  I like it.  And after reading a bit more about this tea, I see that chrysanthemum is one of the in ingredients … which explains that floral note I’m tasting!  I like the way the chrysanthemum enhances not only the honey notes, but also adds depth to the nutty tones.

I like that I am not having to search for flavors here, that they present themselves in a very enjoyable way.  This represents the first tea from Kally Tea that I’ve tried, and it’s a good one.  I look forward to trying more from them.

Tasters Review:

Some people think that it’s strange that I have a Word or Taste Association with some teas.  Well, this is one of those teas.  Here’s why…

When I was little I was in Girl Scouts and each summer we would go to Girl Scout Camp.  During Girl Scout Camp one of the many highlights of the day for me was Arts and Crafts Time.  We did many “Make & Takes” but the class was outside near a tree line and wooded area.  This flavored black takes me back…and it’s all to do with the aroma.  I remember – to this day – how that nook of the woods smelled!  The aroma was very unique and memorable – much like this tea.  I remember smelling sweet wood and blackberries.  On the other side of the Craft area where the tables were set-up was the kitchen.  I remember them making HUGE tubs of “bug juice”.  When I was in Girl Scout Camp – “Bug Juice” was basically Kool-Aid or some form of juice.  No…it didn’t actually have Bugs in it! LOL  Anyhow… our Bug Juice was usually a flavored Kool-Aid, Lemon or Lime Aid, or GatorAid.  The most memorable one, for me, was the LimeAid.  Pair the Lime with the Blackberries, sweet-wood, and other fresh fruits from the kitchen – this flavor and aroma combo was what took me back with this tea!

I have fond memories of Girl Scout Camp because it was near my hometown…shortly after that last summer we moved…and I  missed camp for years to come.  This aroma reminds me not only of those good times, the wonderful outdoors and nature, but the aroma of the woods and surrounding smells of camp from my childhood.  So there is just a little back story for ya.  Maybe I am partial…because I have these fond memories or this Word/Tea Association from my past – but I DO like this tea!  It’s greatly flavored!  I can primarily taste the blackberries and lime but the floral and sweet wood flavors play in the background along with the pear.

This is great hot or cold.

Kally Tea is really wonderful!  I have to point out how much I am LOVING their website!  It’s user-friendly and the colors and layout are very pleasing to the eye.  That could be the web design (of past) in me, too!  Not only is this a memorable tea but their website is just as memorable because of the eye-catching colors and feel.  Their customer service is wonderful, too!

If you haven’t checked out this company yet – please do so!  They are top-notch!
