Taster’s Review:

It’s cold outside!  I’m sure that some of you probably are experiencing even colder temperatures than we are here in the Pacific Northwest, but, when I go outside and I can feel the chill in my nostrils and I can see my breath turn into white mists in front of me – that’s cold.

But what is in my teacup right now is taking my mind off the freezing winter weather outside and is inspiring thoughts of spring.  This Cherry Buds Green Tea from Kally Tea evokes memories of spring, when the trees begin to show signs of life and this is especially true of the cherry blossom trees with their beautiful pink foliage.

That’s what I think of every time I sip on a cherry flavored Sencha tea like this one.  The sweet, lush flavor of the Sencha tea melds in such a delicious way with the sweet-tart notes of cherry and the sweet floral notes of rose that dance around in the background.

It tastes mildly sweet, fruity and it has an invigorating quality that helps me shake the winter blues.  A lovely tea served hot that is also quite good iced too.

Taster’s Review:

This Organic Green Jasmine Tea from Kally Tea is a lovely jasmine scented tea.  First of all, I *love* that it’s organic.  The aroma of the jasmine is heavenly, but as the description above suggests, the jasmine essence is not an overwhelming one for the palate.  I can taste subtle, exotically sweet notes of jasmine flower without a perfume-y or artificial taste.

I am finding this tea to be exceptionally soothing on this cold afternoon.   I don’t know if that’s due to the fact that it’s a delicious hot drink and it’s cold outside, or if it’s due to the fact that I simply needed some jasmine tea.  Then again, it could be both factors.  Whatever the reason, this tea is really hitting the spot for me today.

The green tea is sweet and fresh tasting, not really “grassy” nor is it even a strong vegetative taste, it tastes fresh and leafy, if you know what I mean. There is a light buttery tone to this, and it adds a certain “luxurious” taste and feel to the cup.

But the real star of this cup is the jasmine.  It is not a sharp tasting jasmine note, it’s exceptionally smooth.  This smoothness enhances the aforementioned “buttery” tone, giving the tea a very cozy sort of feel, but at the same time, I can feel it reinvigorate and replenish me.

If you’re a jasmine tea fan and want something organic … this tea would make a great choice as a cupboard staple for you!  Plus, I must admit that I love dealing with the people at Kally Tea.  They’re a really friendly company that offers a really wonderful product.

Taster’s Review:

When I opened the pouch of this Organic White Monkey Green Tea from Kally Tea, I could smell the vegetative notes immediately, along with a sweet note, and a hint of floral notes in the background.  It smelled really lovely, like a sunny spring morning.

The flavor I first noticed with my first sip was a sweet, nutty note.  Having tried a few White Monkey teas in the past, I found myself trying to recall if I normally experienced a nutty flavor.  The aroma of the dry leaf suggests a somewhat leafy or grassy taste, but, it’s not there.  I don’t get a strong “vegetal” note here.  In fact, I think that this would be an excellent tea for those who are new to green tea and just a little bit intimidated by the grassy taste of some other green teas out there.

The floral notes are also not as pronounced as I expected them to be.  Instead, I’m tasting a sweet, buttery and nutty flavor at the start of the sip.  When I slurp the sip, I even pick up on some hints of cacao!  Lovely!

Overall, this is a pleasant, delicate tasting tea.  Toward the finish, I notice a slight fruity note – it is sweet and complements the nutty tones well.  A nice complexity, and I like that I’m not picking up on any bitterness or astringency to this.  It’s just a mild, relaxing cuppa!

Taster’s Review:

Of the information that is provided for this tea, the one thing that is missing is which flush Organic Sungma FTGFOP-1 Black Tea from Kally Tea was harvested.  But the flavor suggests to me that this is most likely a first flush.  In my experience, the second flush Darjeeling teas tend to possess more of that “muscatel” taste while the first flush tends to be a little more woodsy.

And this tea does have more of that woodsy kind of flavor to it.  In the dry leaf aroma, that’s the first thing I picked up on was a woodsy kind of fragrance, reminding me of the scent one might experience while walking through a heavily wooded forest just after it rained, when the scent of the trees is really prolific.  The brewed tea has some of this fragrance as well, but it isn’t as pronounced as it is in the dry leaf.

The flavor – as I’ve already mentioned – is also woodsy.  It also does have some delightful floral notes in the distance, and some sweet fruity notes that seem to emerge as the tea cools slightly.  The first couple of sips that I tasted, I didn’t really notice a lot of fruit or flower to this cup, but now that it’s had a few minutes to cool to a drinkable temperature, I notice more of the fruity tones and floral notes.

But mostly what I notice here is an earthy, woodsy tone.  It is crisp and focused.  The mouthfeel is pleasant, and the flavor is uplifting.  The fruit notes provide more of a sweetness than a real distinct, identifiable fruit flavor, and it isn’t exactly a muscatel-ish note.  This has some astringency toward the finish, but it isn’t as dry as some Darjeeling teas that I’ve tasted.  It’s really quite enjoyable – a very good afternoon tea.

I don’t know that I’d say it’s Far Too Good For Ordinary People – mostly because I’m not in to arrogance like that – but it is certainly good, and I do appreciate that it’s part of Kally Tea’s organic line of teas, and it’s a good one to try if you’re looking for a good quality Darjeeling.

Taster’s Review:

I have been really impressed thus far with the new Organic line of teas from Kally Tea, so I was looking forward to tasting this Organic Genmaicha Green Tea Blend.

And it’s an excellent Genmaicha.  It has all the flavor that I’d expect from a top quality Genmaicha:  a Japanese sencha green tea that is both sweet and savory and that produces a soft brothy mouthfeel and the sweet and warm roasty-toasty notes from the toasted brown rice.

I enjoy Genmaicha all year round, but, there’s just something about Genmaicha in the autumn.  The toasty flavor of it just fits the season.  The warmth and the taste of freshly roasted nuts are very autumnal, and the hints of fresh, leafy sencha evoke thoughts of the summer season that has just flown by.

This is one of the nicest Genmaicha teas that I’ve encountered in a while, and I’m not sure if it’s just that I was in the mood for a delicious, roasty-toasty tea or if it’s that this is just an amazing Genmaicha … but I’m thinking that it’s a little of both!  It’s a very cozy, comforting cuppa, and I love that it’s organic!
