Organic Midnight Jasmine Chun Mee from The Tea Guy

You can buy a jasmine tea almost anywhere you go in the world but if you want a quality Jasmine tea look no further.

The leaves are a bit darker then some of the other Chun Mee teas I’ve had but its a perfect base to scent with jasmine.

The dry leaf gives off only a slight hint of the flavor to come, while the wet leaf has somewhat of a smoky smell. The liquid flavor of the jasmine is light but in a good way. T

hose who have sensitive palettes or prefer lighter teas will definitely enjoy this cuppa. Chun Mee is a Chinese green tea. Also known as precious eyebrows because of the way it looks after it is rolled and dried.

Here’s the scoop!

Leaf Type:  Green
Where to Buy:  The Tea Guy
Description

A classic and smooth China eyebrow tea in a pure organic form. The fresh scent of jasmine does not overwhelm the tea like some jasmines, but with the fragrant chun mee, the balance between floral and green tea notes are divine. The flowers have never touched this tea, just their overwhelming fragrance.

Green Jasmine Floral Tea from Grimoire Tea

I’ll be honest with you guys– I don’t know what Grimoire means. Or what Whiterun is. (Don’t take away my nerd card, please.) And frankly, I don’t even reach for green teas (or jasmines!) all that frequently. (I know. Stick with me, I promise.) So when I saw this one waiting for me in my sample stash, I was… dubious, to say the least. Never one to shy away from a cup of anything, however, I knew I had to give this one a try.

The jasmine, upon brewing, is the FIRST thing you smell– and I mean that in ALL CAPS. It is JASMINE! with an exclamation point. To say I was expecting to find that same flavor-ferocity in the sip is an understatement, but I was pleasantly surprised! The actual brew is a beautiful deep gold liquor, with a delightfully balanced jasmine flavor profile. I can’t say I’m picking up too much green in this cup, but the jasmine is spot-on– strong enough that you certainly don’t have to go hunting for flavor, but balanced enough that it’s not going to kick you tush-over-teakettle.

Also present? Stevia. I know this is a controversial ingredient, but I actually think it works really well here, friends. If you’re not partial to ANY sweet in your tea, I’d skip this one– but from what I can tell, I’m fairly certain the sweetness comes from the actual stevia leaf and not the signature artificial taste from the liquid. There are definitely some unaccounted-for green flakes in the dry leaf that would back me up on this one. That said, the sweetness from the stevia brings a nice rounding-out of flavors that make this tea more accessible for the jasmine-novice and infrequent-green-sipper like myself. Grimoire, you might be making a green/jasmine fan of me yet! (Now just help me fill that gap in my nerdery knowledge, and I’ll be good to go.)

Enjoying A Quite Moment with Chai Kai Tea. . . . #jasmingreentea

Being a mom to four boys, two dogs, and a hectic schedule to boot. . . .the quiet relaxing moments for me are sometimes few and far between.  I try to make sure that I get a little “me” time every day which typically involves a few pots of tea.   The other day it involved insane amounts of Jasmine Green from Chai Kai Tea.

Prepped with 190F water and allowed to brew for 3 minutes and cooled for an additional two minutes, this tea begs you to take a moment and really enjoy the tea leaves.  This is one of those brews that you just wrap your hands around the mug and take in the wafting aromas of gorgeous jasmine green tea that remind one of freshness and spring.

After just one sip, I was hooked.  Fresh green slightly vegetal notes with a sweet subtle background and a helping of floral notes. This tea does not disappoint and delivers a spot on high quality flavor.  I drink a lot of jasmine green teas and sometimes the jasmine is just too overpowering or there just isn’t enough jasmine to really enjoy. Sometimes even the green tea just isn’t on par with what I would like to enjoy.   Jasmine Green from Chai Kai Tea provides a romantic flavor that is so incredibly alluring yet delivers a flavor that is robust in its very own way.

With the fresh sights and sounds of spring all around us, this tea has found its just home.  Perfectly balanced and one that I would happily keep in my own personal tea stash all year around.

A Cuppa That is Akin to Wilde’s Garden – NovelTea’s Wilde’s Rosy Tea Blend

“If one cannot enjoy reading a book over and over again, there is no use in reading it at all.”  ~Oscar Wilde

And that is exactly how I felt about this tea. I wanted to enjoy over and over and I couldn’t get enough! And as the title suggests, I feel that when I drink this tea I am enjoying this beverage in a garden full of freshly bloomed roses while the door that leads into the garden has some jasmine incense wafting out of it.

But before I get into my full review here are the specifics. This tea is made up of a lovely blend of organic jasmine green tea and a rose-blended bergamot. The site doesn’t dictate how long to steep it so I just went with my gut and steeped it for a good 3 minutes and that method seemed to work perfectly. Lastly, the price for this tea is not too bad for you only pay $14.99 for a 3 oz bag which is about $3 dollars more than the 2 oz Rose Petal China tea that I have. Now if you want the beautiful “Picture of Earl Gray” novel tea tin that will set you back $29, which includes the 3 oz bag of tea as well.  As a side note, I am honestly obsessed with the tin and I will get it in the near future.

Now to the taste of the tea, which is just beautiful, simply beautiful. It does mimic a black tea with that bitter fruity taste that is the jasmine flower. But don’t fret if you are not a fan of the slight bitterness that the jasmine offers for it is mellowed out by the soft green tea that is paired with. Now to the rose flavor which pairs perfectly with the jasmine. I will just say that I absolutely love roses in my tea.  So the roses in this tea were absolutely delightful. And if you are wondering what roses taste like remember the aroma of a fresh rose and that is how they taste; a weird perfumey, watery sweet.  It is definitely something I urge tasting but then again I am a rose lover so I am a bit biased.

Now as I drank this delicious tea I was instantly reminded of the beginning of The Picture of Dorian Gray by Mr. Oscar Wilde himself:

The studio was filled with the rich odour of roses, and when the light summer wind stirred amidst the trees of the garden, there came through the open door the heavy scent of lilac, or the more delicate perfume of the pink-flowering thorn.”

All in all regardless of if you are a fan of Wilde or not this tea is delicious and refreshingly different compared to the other rose teas that I have tried.  I am now officially a lover of this blend and I look forward to seeing what else the brand comes out with! My hopes are that there will be a Jane Eyre or a Lovecraft inspired blend.

See you for the next cuppa!

Kara

Atman Tea Co. . . . .A Unique Green Tea. . .

This tea comes in little sachets that are 100% biodegradable and compostable which I really like. At first glance it didn’t look so much like tea as it did spices or herbs. That is probably the Ashwagandha.

This tea’s flavor kind of reminds me of quinoa in a weird way. The smell too. I wouldn’t say it’s bad, or that I don’t like it, but I wouldn’t say that this would be my first choice either. I would say it’s interesting, and maybe it will grow on me. I remember the first time I ate quinoa i wasn’t a fan, but it did grow on me.

Ashwagandha is an herb that is known to reduce stress, and also help with depression. The snowy weather has me down, so today seemed like a perfect day to try this out. I wouldn’t say I feel less blue about the weather, but my body and mind both feel a little more calm and level headed. Apparently Ashwagandha can reduce cortisol levels. Cortisol is a stress hormone, and it can be very destructive on our bodies. I’ve been reading up on Ashwagandha, and the health benefits are plentiful. The benefits kind of make the taste a lot better to be honest.

The Jasmine flavor is there, but mostly you will taste the earthy grassy flavor. This might be delicious mixed with a fruitier tea for a delicious iced tea.

This tea does have caffeine, but a very low amount so that also makes me happy. From everything I’ve just read about Ashwagandha, I feel like it would benefit most of us. I definitely recommend this tea, and will be drinking it again.
