Lemongrass Marigold/India’s Tea. . . .

Lemongrass Marigold Green Tea is a traditional Indian tea and is available from several different companies.

Some of the information I found online for this new-to-me blend said the following: The marigold is an esteemed flower and is called “the birth of the sun.” It is regarded as a great detox agent. Lemongrass is believed to have anti-inflammatory properties and is regarded as a headache treatment, while green tea is lauded as a detox agent and a great source of anti-oxidants, as well as possibly assisting with weight loss.

Whether these statements are true or not, what I can tell you is that this is a beautiful blend. It reminds me of a brightly colored sari. The green tea and lemongrass have a vivid green color and the flower petals are bright orange. The smell of the dry leaves is primarily invigorating citrus, bright and sunny.

One teaspoon, low temp, just over two minutes. . . . the perfect steeping parameters! Recommended not going over the two minutes.  The green tea and lemongrass are making my tongue puckery and dry. The lemongrass is sparkling and the floral aspect is rather muted to me.

This tea is recommended to pair with things like baklava and rice crackers. Could two things be more different? But I can absolutely see drinking this with rich desserts or with a spicy Indian dinner.

It will definitely stand up to any of it!

Lady Grey from IndiasTea. . . .

It’s hard to pin down exactly what makes a tea a Lady Grey blend.  I believe Twinings tea company first coined the term, making a citrusy earl grey tea without powerful bergamot oil.  Either way, Lady Grey blends tend to be earl-grey-inspired teas blended to be a bit more gentle or ladylike. Lady Grey from India Teas certainly fits into that category.

While this blend has bergamot oil in it, it is at much lower levels than your average earl grey. Instead of the intense bergamot, this tea is accented with lemon peel and orange peel, making for milder and gentler citrus tones.

The leaves and the brewed tea had a fragrance of lemon-vanilla, reminding me of lemon poppyseed muffins. The tea is bright and pleasant, but not overly sweet, still preserving some of the citrus pop of traditional earl grey.

Brewed, the leaves appear much greener than when they are dry.  I’m not sure exactly what type of tea leaves are used as a base, but the flavor and color lead me to believe it is a darjeeling, or less oxidized tea.  The more delicate leaves suit the airy lemon peel flavors and ladylike theme.

Lemon is the star player in this blend since there is no black tea tannin richness to overpower it.  This Lady Grey is light and drinkable, a sunny lemon brew with just a little grounding to distinguish it from an herbal tea.

This is a delectable alternative to powerful earl greys, and might just be your new favorite citrus tea for cold brewing as the weather gets warmer.

Raining Weather Calls for a Rose Oolong from Indias Tea. . .

Today is one of those days where a rose oolong was just what the doctor ordered.  It has been raining non stop since Friday and we are starting to experience water in the basement and seeing flooding in our community.  So as the rain continues and the thunderstorms start up, a flavored oolong sounds like perfection.

This particular Rose Oolong is from Indias Tea.  The dry leaf of this blend is intoxicating.  Fresh floral notes fill the air while this tea starts to steep and creates a gorgeous blend that I couldn’t wait to check out.

Gorgeous sweet floral notes mingle marvelously with that familiar oolong flavor that I can always count on.  This tea aromas translate into this wonderful floral flavor.  As the tea settles and cools, those lovely rose notes develop more and more.   Such a warm, soothing, and comforting tea on such a spring rainy day.

Rose Oolong is one that I can see snuggling up to with a good book and letting the stresses of the day wash away.  Something I’ll be doing for sure soon!
