Golden Assam from Rishi Tea

Tea Information:

Leaf Type:  Black

Where to Buy:  Rishi Tea

Product Description:

The Assam region of Northeast India is famous for its black tea production. The sub-tropical valleys of Assam in which tea is cultivated yield gutsy, bold infusions with full body and flavor. Our single estate Golden Assam is from orthodox manufacture and has an abundance of even grade leaves and golden buds. Its rich liquor is sweet, robust and malty with notes of fruity raisin and date sugar.

Taster’s Review:

Fabulous!

This is the kind of tea that you want to wake up to in the morning.  It has GUSTO!  It is a robust Assam with a deep, rich flavor that suggests notes of sweetness and fruit as well as a very profound malty tone.

This delicious, full-bodied tea has a lovely baked quality to it, very biscuit-y in nature.  It has a very pleasing sweetness, and I must agree with the above description, it is a “date sugar” kind of sweetness.  It is a very enjoyable tea without coming across as too sweet.

I steeped my serving of this tea just under three minutes, and I am finding it to be free of bitterness.  I wouldn’t recommend steeping it much longer, though, as Assam teas can be somewhat temperamental and become bitter if steeped too long.  There is a fair amount of astringency in this cup; it is a clean, slightly dry astringency, but I did not find it to disturb my enjoyment of the tea at all.

This tea takes well to the addition of milk and honey, if you like your tea that way.  I prefer mine without the milk, but a drizzle of honey is quite nice and accentuates the fruit tones of this tea well.  This is a wonderful tea that is perfect for that all-important first cup of the day and would be equally as nice as an early afternoon tea.

Tasters Review:

As many of you know I have been a vegetarian for 17+ years.  Over the past month or so I have been educating myself more on Raw Vegan Foods.  When I saw that this Noni Matcha from Red Leaf Tea was RAW and Red Leaf Tea seems to be marketing it as such – I was VERY excited!  If you know of anyone who is into RAW Foods – tell them about this Noni Matcha!  YES!  It is 100% raw, pure and organic.

Dry – right out of the package – the first thing that came to mind when I smelled this was Noni flavored Scones!

After mixing up it smells like fruit and veggies with matcha!

This is pretty good.  It’s a tad tart but unique and super healthy!  It’s a nice change-up from your plain-jane matcha!  I haven’t come across a Noni Flavored Matcha yet and I am very excited that Red Leaf has made this flavored matcha come to be!

Product Description:

A sophisticated and inspiring single estate tea from one of the first organic and Fair Trade Certified™ tea gardens in India. The surrounding rainforest is home to a tiger reserve and many other endangered animals including the lion-tailed macaque, a primate endemic to this specific region

Tasters Review:

I love drinking estate teas – learning about each estate and their region!  Google and Wiki are my friends!  So is this Green Tea!  It’s a really good bagged tea!

I also LOVE that there is a Tiger Reserve nearby!  As you can see from the description the reserve is also home to many other endangered animals.  Programs and Places like that are important to me.

As for this specific tea…I found it to be…vegetal and subtly sweet with a somewhat grassy aftertaste.

I had this both hot and cold.  I think it’s a bit more grassier when cold.  I did enjoy both tho!

Kama Sutra Revitalising Tea from The East India Company

Tea Type: Black Tea

Where To Buy: The East India Company

Product Description:

Kama Sutra tea is combination of fine black tea, sensuous blossoms and tantalising spices. Its deep aroma and strong full body brings romance in every sip.

Tasters Review:

Everyone knows TEA has a history!  With each tea company comes a story, too, but when it comes to East India Company it truly is THE Story and THE History of Tea!

It all began in 1600 for East India Company and they are wonderful at explaining EVERYTHING on their website!  If you do one thing today – make sure you visit their website and spend some time there – you won’t regret it!

As for this specific tea from The East India Company called Kama Sutra Revitalising Tea – I must say I LOVE everything about it!

The aroma is AMAZING!  I can smell the rich black tea but the comforting spices and juicy fruit flavors offer a sweet yet semi-tart component to the the overall smell that fills not only your nose but the room!  It’s brilliant beauty in a cup!

The color – once infused – is dark brown with orange and red hues.  A nice, vibrant color, indeed!

As for the taste…it’s VERY flavorful, bold and rich, hearty and memorable!  The fruits all blend together nicely for a unique taste of it’s own.  They are semi-sweet yet semi-tart but meet in the middle quite nicely.  The spices aren’t like the chai spices you may be thinking of.  Instead they are more on the assist but NOT hiding in the background – that is for sure!  They also contribute to the overall uniqueness of this flavored tea!  With out any one ingredient the aroma and taste would not be the same.  It’s slightly reminiscent of Seasonal or Holiday Fruit and Spices but I would be confident that anyone could enjoy this year-round! I could see myself enjoying a cup or two after morning Yoga filled with Sun Salutations.

I agree with the name as it seems to bring me joy and peace but also seems to wake me up and get my going!

This is what I would call an amazingly crafted tea!

As for you history buffs below I am including some info I found on their website but please do visit their site and read much more about their company and offerings!

A little more about The East India Company Heritage and History:

Since its creation in 1600 by The Royal Charter granted by Queen Elizabeth I, the influence of The East India Company has been well documented.  Without The Company our world would not be as it is today.

It changed the world’s tastes, its thinking, and its people.  It created new communities, trading places,  cities and shaped countries and commercial routes.

Singapore and Hong Kong were established by The Company and India was shaped and influenced by it.  At one point The Company had the largest merchant navy in the world and conducted and controlled 50% of world trade.

With statistics like that it’s easy to forget that at its heart, were real people.

Our heritage is in the spirit of those pioneers.  The East India Company’s employees did not set out to change the world.  They were people who set sail to establish trade routes, to discover and bring back new goods, and in doing so broke down the barriers of the world.

They were explorers, traders, innovators. They took risks, they broke new ground and they sometimes got it wrong.

They were pioneering; creating many of the means and rules of commerce we use today.

They were individuals, living by the rules of their times – determined, entrepreneurial and human – who were driven by their passion and enthusiasm; the same qualities that drive our team today.

Tasters Review:

Cooling Mint Tulsi Blend from Tao of Tea really surprised me!  Here’s why…

My sip started off a little gentle and mild and gained momentum as the sip continued!

It was more herbally at first but then grew into a wonderful mint experience.  It was creamy but minty-fresh!  I could taste the basil-likeness of the Tulsi and it was quite good.  It left a refreshing aftertaste!

This is a great Tulsi Tisane!  Or should I say HOLY LEAF Tisane?  I think Holy Leaf makes it sound more important!  In short, it’s basically a sweet basil…in case you aren’t familiar with Tulsi or Holy Leaf.

Tulsi has
Potential Health Benefits including:

  • Strengthens the immune system, promotes longevity and enhances well-being.
  • Promotes heart health by lowering cholesterol and high blood pressure.
  • Reduces the negative physical and psychological effects of stress.
  • Increases the body’s efficiency in using oxygen, which improves stamina, strength and endurance.
  • Promotes respiratory health.
  • Helps with digestion and gastrointestinal problems.
  • Neutralizes dangerous biochemicals that contribute to cancer, degenerative diseases and premature aging.
  • Facilitates healthy liver function.
  • Reduces cell and tissue damage from sun rays, radiation therapy and other radiation sources.
  • Relieves inflammation from arthritis and other diseases.
  • Helps fight infections.

If you haven’t tried Tulsi Tea or Holy Leaf Tea or Tisane’s before – give them a whirl!  This is a very good one to try!  I like it best paired with the minty-freshness and this tisane offers that and more!
