Caramel Apple Honeybush from 52Teas

Tea Information:

Leaf Type:  Honeybush

Where to Buy:  52Teas

Product Description:

Spring always makes me a bit nostalgic for autumn, so, fair warning, this week’s tea and next week’s tea might put you in mind of Ocotber or November.

Here’s our premium African Honeybush, blended with real dried red delicious apple bits and natural apple and caramel flavors. The sweet apple and rich caramel flavors are a great compliment to the honeybush. I’m sure you’re going to love it.

Several of our regular customers have pointed out that I “have a way with honeybush,” so don’t miss out on this latest honeybush blend.

Taster’s Review:

Frank does indeed have a way with honeybush.  His honeybush blends blow the competition out of the water!  They are, quite simply, the best honeybush blends I’ve tried.

And this Caramel Apple Honeybush is no exception.  It’s fantastic.  The honeybush provides a deliciously sweet, nutty background for the apple and caramel flavors. The apple flavor is sweet and juicy, with just a hint of tart.  The tart note is ever-so-slight, although it becomes more apparent in the aftertaste.  The caramel tastes sweet and rich.

The sip begins with the taste of apple and and undertone of honey-esque tones from the honeybush.  I can also taste a hint of nutty flavor from the honeybush right at the start.  Soon, though, the honeybush flavor is surpassed by the apple and caramel, finishing with a sweet, dessert-like taste, and imparting an apple aftertaste.

This tisane lets you enjoy all the flavor of a caramel apple without worrying about those calories – and because honeybush is naturally caffeine free, you needn’t worry about this tisane keeping you up all night either!  Then again, this tisane MIGHT just keep you up at night … with thoughts of how delicious it is and desires for another cup!

Princess Blend from 52Teas

Tea Information:

Leaf Type:  Honeybush

Where to Buy:  52Teas

Product Description:

My little girl LOVES tea. I know this is a big shock to everyone that the apple wouldn’t fall far from the tree there, but she really does love tea. Since we closed our retail shop, she keeps asking when we are going to Zoomdweebie’s for tea. Since I can’t help her out with that, I thought the next best thing would be to create a blend just for her. So here is our Princess Blend for my little fairy princess, Amelia. It’s caffeine-free African honeybush, so you can share it with your little ones too (if you feel like sharing this bubble-gummy-goodness).

Taster’s Review:

This was the tea of the week for November 15, 2010.  I didn’t buy it right away, in fact, I really hadn’t planned on buying it at all.  A bubblegum tea doesn’t really sound all that appealing to me.  Not that it sounds horrible or anything, it just wasn’t there at the top of my list of favorite flavors, you know what I mean?

Anyway, on Steepster, I kept hearing good things about this tisane.  So I decided that I really had to try it to see if it lived up to all the hype.   And while I don’t think it is quite as good as everyone else who reviewed it on Steepster does, it is a tasty blend, and certainly much better than I would have thought.  I can’t say that it’s my favorite 52Teas blend, because it isn’t, but, they can’t all be my favorite, can they?

The dry leaf smells like bubblegum.  Make that bubblegum and honeybush, because there is that distinct honeybush aroma in the background.  The brewed liquor possesses a more delicate fragrance, but it still smells like bubblegum and honeybush.

And that’s what it tastes like, too.  The bubblegum flavor is sweet and tastes like pink bubblegum.  You know, like the original Hubba Bubba bubblegum, or an even more precise comparison would be the Double Bubble bubblegum (or Dubble Bubble bubblegum for those of you who can remember that!)

The honeybush is what sets this apart from a wad of bubblegum, though.  The nutty, somewhat woody background and sweet, honey-like tones of the honeybush give this bubblegum a flavor unlike anything you’d find in the candy store.

This is tasty hot or iced, but I prefer it chilled.  It doesn’t need additional sweetener, but, I don’t think it would really disrupt the flavor if you do add sugar or some other sweetener – it would just give you a sweeter bubblegum taste!   I know my two Princesses are going to love this blend!

Taster’s Review:

Wow!  This tastes really good!

I really wasn’t expecting it to taste so good.  A quick glance at the list of ingredients told me that this would be an herbal blend, and my mind immediately envisioned a medicinal tasting liquid.  But, this really doesn’t taste medicinal at all.  It doesn’t even taste like a typical herbal blend.  It tastes sweet and fruity and could make just as nice a dessert tea as it would a tisane to promote relaxation.

Back in my tea blending days, I created an herbal relaxation blend, and if I am to be honest … even it didn’t taste this good.  Sure, I enjoyed the flavor of my own creation, and up until now, it had been the best relaxation blend I had tasted.  But this one is even better.

The flavor is sweet, fruit-like (it tastes like apricots to me) and there is almost a creamy vanilla-y taste in the background.  I don’t taste a strong presence from the chamomile.  The lemongrass and lemon myrtle offer soft citrus tones that compliment the apricot notes that I’m tasting.  The anise provides a sweet, licorice-like tone that isn’t sharp like I usually find anise to be.  This tastes subtle and sweet.  I’m not even getting that disagreeable taste from the stevia!

This is HANDS DOWN the best relaxation tisane I’ve yet to encounter.

Chocolate Cake Honeybush Tea from Fusion Tea Room

Tea Type: Honeybush

Where To Buy: Fusion Tea Room

Product Description:

Don’t we all love a piece of chocolate cake now and again? This creation is a must for all chocolate fans with its lively, sweet, chocolaty cake aroma and the beautiful decoration of rosebuds.

Ingredients: Honeybush, chocolate chips, caramel cream pieces, flavoring, rosebuds

Tasters Review:

Pardon me if I get giddy every time I try a tea or tisane with chocolate/chips in it!  YUM!

Once I opened the bag of this I could smell Caramel and Chocolate…more Caramel than Chocolate but the aroma was terrifically-awesome!

Once infused I could smell the chocolate more and the caramel a little less.

This is very sweet and I can taste both the caramel and the chocolate. This is a medium-flavored honeybush and very pleasing and very much a comfort tisane!

This is very tasty and a great offering from Fusion Tea Room!

Green Mango Peach from Tea Forté

Tea Information:

Leaf Type:  Green Tea & Honeybush

Where to Buy: Tea Forté

Product Description:

Fragrant mangoes and peach scent every cup of our lightly steamed green tea with honeybush and a touch of peppermint.

Taster’s Review:

I received a “single steep” package of this tea along with my KATI tumbler, and before I get too deep into reviewing this tea, I want to say that I just love these single steep packages!  They are pre-measured with just the right amount of tea for my KATI cup.  Armed with the KATI tumbler and some of these single steep packages, a tea lover has just about everything they need to brew a delicious cup of loose leaf tea anywhere they go!  Just add hot water!

Now… on to the tea!  The flavors of mango and peach permeate each sip of this tea.  It is intensely flavored!  The green tea base is able to hold its own though, and isn’t overwhelmed.  I can taste the fresh, light taste of green tea in the background.

Less noticeable is the flavor of the honeybush, although I can taste the honey-like sweetness from it.  The mint in this blend offers a herbaceous, somewhat medicinal taste to the cup that is reminiscent to menthol.  I don’t find this to be off-putting, but I can see how others might.  The flavor doesn’t overpower the cup, and I will say that the mint flavor lends a very nice minty aftertaste to the tea experience.

I like the ginger’s presence in this cup.  It is not too strong, but it adds a nice dimension of flavor and cuts through the sweeter notes of the fruit.  It has a well-rounded taste to it.  A lovely afternoon cuppa!
