Coconut Tea from CAcafe. . . .Something Different To Check Out!

Walking through Costco the other day, I stumbled upon a product that I found intriguing. CAcafe Coffee.. . .A coconut coffee powder basically.  I know that coconut is good for digestion so I thought about grabbing it but our cart was so full, I figured I’d grab it next shopping trip.

Low and behold, a week later I was chatting with a very nice representative of CAcafe about their Black Friday deals.  Next thing I know, they shipped a canister of their CAcafe Coconut Tea for me and the rest of the sisters to check out.

This tea is a little different than the rest of the tea in my stash. One- because its a powder. Besides Matcha, I really don’t have any other tea in powder form and Two- This has calories and calories from fat. But as the label notes, all fact in the coconut tea comes naturally from coconut oil, coconut meat, and coconut cream.  And lastly- this tea also has Cane Sugar in it, not something I typically have in my tea.  So yes, in 2 heaping tbsps, you have 170 calories with 100 calories coming from fat.   The ingredients in this powder are coconut cane sugar, green tea, maltodextrin, and starch.

For me, I don’t typically drink my calories so this is a departure for me. But this is such a unique and interesting product, I had to try it. I scooped the recommended 2 heaping tablespoons in my mug, prepped up hot water, and allowed the tea to cool for a moment.

Wow, I have to admit, I wasn’t sure what I would think of this beverage, but I have to say, it’s quite delicious! My initial thought after drinking this was that this would make a dynamite hot chocolate or even a great added into a matcha latte to give the beverage a touch of sweetness.

There really is a strong coconut flavor throughout so if you aren’t a coconut lover, this may not be for you. That being said, the cane sugar really provides this tea with a sweetness that I think even a child would enjoy.  The sweetness is such that this tea would absolutely curb any sweet tooth craving you might have. The one note that was very slight was the green tea flavor. I wish it was a bit stronger just to even out the coconut and sugar flavors.

All in all, I really did enjoy this powder and plan to keep it on hand for some time to come.  Rich, creamy, solid flavor and all of the powder dissolved without a hitch.  I’m excited to even add a tablespoon to my upcoming matcha lattes or smoothies. I think there is a lot of experimenting that can be done with this powdered tea and I”m excited to get started to see what kind of drinks I can create!

Raspberry Matcha from Tea’s Me

Flavored Matcha. Yup! I will try just about any flavor. (As long as it’s vegan and this one is). So when I saw Raspberry Matcha from Tea’s Me I knew I had to spend some time with it.

This not only has green matcha powder it also has natural raspberry flavor and pure cane sugar, too! I will say that I was able to taste the raspberry flavor AND the pure cane sugar right away. And I know this review will be a little backwards but I feel like I need to address the flavor right away this time around.

The pure cane sugar is just that – pure. It didn’t have a fake taste to it. The Raspberry flavors came thru nicely. When the raspberry and the pure cane sugar are put together like they were here they lingered long after the sip. I think the pure cane sugar helped the raspberry flavor along. I think the raspberry flavor toned down the sugary notes. Any more sugar and I’m not sure I would have liked the cup as much as I did…and I DID enjoy it! This is a full flavor FLAVORED Matcha – I will point out. So if you are looking for a berry type flavored matcha I would recommend you try this one. It’s unlike anything I have ever had before.

Based on this winning experience I hope to some day try Tea’s Me’s other two flavored matcha flavors which include Blueberry and the other being Vanilla.

Now…if you will excuse me…I think I will go have another cup of Raspberry Matcha from Tea’s Me…Nom, Nom, Nom…

Barista’s Matcha Tea from My Matcha Life #VeganMoFo2016

Today’s prompt for Vegan MoFo 2016 is “If an alien showed up on your door step, what would you feed them?” I feel like I would whip up a wonderful matcha latte for several reasons. 1- The general look of an alien is that they are green and matcha is a fine ground green tea. And 2- Matcha’s are typically vegetal in flavor and for some reason I want to think that the alien that would show up at my door would be one that would have a similiar lifestyle as my vegan one!

I don’t live in a big city. I used to live in a medium-sized city while I was a child but that was way before trendy coffee shops and Barista were terms used in daily conversation and life. Recently I have been sipping on Barista’s Matcha Tea from My Matcha Life and totally LOVING it.

I know I shouldn’t judge a Matcha by it’s name but there is something special about Barista’s Matcha Tea from My Matcha Life and it goes beyond the name and title of the green tea powder.

The vibrant green color of the matcha powder is impressive upon opening the tin but the deep dark forest green color once you add the hot water is what really drew me in. Barista’s Matcha Tea from My Matcha Life offers the full Matcha experience from beginning to end.

Barista’s Matcha Tea from My Matcha Life smells vegetal but tastes creamy and green. The froth comes into play but disappears leaving the rich green quality matcha in the cup for me to admire. The sip is just as – if not more – impressive. Barista’s Matcha Tea from My Matcha Life is a pure delight!

Kenyan Purple Tea from Kenya Purple Tea

Eventho Purple Tea is becoming more popular these days here are Sororitea Sisters we still have a short list of Purple Teas represented and we are very pleased to add Kenyan Purple Tea from Kenya Purple Tea to that list.

On Kenya Purple Tea’s ABOUT US Page it states: Necessity is the mother of invention. Kenyan tea growers have been plagued by the ever-falling prices of black tea which has been traditionally grown in Kenya since 1903. In the recent years, the global market for black tea has been saturated.   At the end of 2014, prices were down to near-historic lows and that is when Kenyan tea growers said ‘Tosha Tosha’ which means Enough is Enough in the local Swahili. A good number of Kenyan tea growers are now switching to grow a newly discovered tea, the Kenya purple tea. It turns out that apart from its delightful purple color and being a great thirst quencher, this type of tea has greater health benefits than either green tea or black tea.

This info was enough to make me want to learn more, try more, and seek out more Purple Teas out there!  With the Purple Teas I have tried so far I agree that they certain do help quench your thirst and Kenyan Purple Tea from Kenya Purple Tea falls in that category.  The flavor is somewhere in between a black tea and a green tea.  Personally, I think the flavor favors green tea more but I can see nods to both sides.

Kenyan Purple Tea from Kenya Purple Tea has a very pale infusion color but that doesn’t mean the flavor is faded!  It’s quite delicious!  Again, Kenyan Purple Tea from Kenya Purple Tea, has a more green taste, but I really like that about this offering!

Kenya Purple Tea also offers the first of its kind BOTTLED Iced Purple Tea which I think is a wonderful idea especially from a marketing stand point in the USA.  I look forward to seeing Purple Tea get even bigger over the next several years and wish the growers of Kenya the very best!

Taster’s Review:

I wasn’t too sure what to expect from this Organic Corsican Olive Leaf Tea from Wise Owl Tea.  I can’t recall ever having tried an olive leaf tea (but that doesn’t mean that I’ve not tried it … just that I don’t remember).  And when I opened the very cool tube canister (seriously, I love the canisters!) I was a little bewildered by the amount of tea that is in each silky pyramid sachet.  There is less than a teaspoon of tea in each little sachet – could this be enough to make a satisfactory cup of tea?

I contemplated using more than one sachet, but, instead, I went with just one sachet so that I could give as accurate a review of what one sachet of tea is capable of.  I poured eight ounces of near boiling water (I never use boiling water in herbal/fruit tisanes like this one), and steeped the cup for five minutes as per the instructions on the package.

And yes!  There’s flavor to this cup!  The texture is thin but silky, and I taste notes of apple and a tangy pineapple note in the background.  I also taste a sweet flavor that is neither apple or pineapple, and this is what I’m thinking must be the olive leaf.  It has a soft vegetal flavor that reminds me a bit of green tea – but not exactly like that.

It is as though I can taste the olive there, and I’m not sure that isn’t just my mind telling me that I’m drinking olive leaf tea and I should be tasting olive … or if that’s what I’m actually tasting.

It’s a different taste … but not an unpleasant one.  On the contrary, I’m quite enjoying this olive leaf tea from Wise Owl.  It’s a mellow tasting tea.  I have heard that olive leaf tea can taste bitter if it’s steeped too long, so I was careful only to steep this for five minutes and I’m very pleased with the results, so I’d recommend not going over the five minutes to avoid the bitter flavor … unless you like that sort of thing.

Olive Leaf Tea is known for its health benefits, and if it tastes this good, I’m not opposed to drinking something that’s good for me.  That’s why I drink tea – not for it’s health benefits – but that it tastes good.  The health benefits are an added bonus.  Just like with this Olive Leaf Tea!  The health benefits are just a bonus to the tasty flavor.
