Oo’ Peppermint from Harlow Tea Co

So let me just start by saying I am not the biggest oolong fan. Often times, I find the base takes over and if you aren’t a lover of that type of tea, it can be hard to overcome that. With that said, I am happy to report that is not a problem here. The oolong is present but subtle, providing a slightly floral foundation on which the other flavors are shining.

The star here is the peppermint. This did not come as a surprise in light of the tea being named Oo’ Peppermint. That plus the dry leaf had a whole lot of of mint leaves. It’s bright and fresh and provides a crisp yet smooth flavor.

However, this is more than just your typical peppermint tea. The dry leaf had almond pieces, tulsi leaves, and vanilla beans as well. The tulsi adds a hint of clove flavor to add a touch of spice while the almond counters that with a slight sweetness lingering beneath the mint. I am not getting as much vanilla as I hoped, especially since vanilla-mint, is a favorite combination of mine, but there is a bit of a creaminess to this tea that could be attributed to the vanilla beans. I just wish there was more vanilla flavor.

This is a lovely introduction to Harlow Tea Co., a new company for me, and though I wanted a little bit more from this tea it is still making for a pleasant evening treat. If you are a peppermint fan, this is a great tea for you because it will give you that peppermint flavor and then some.

Taster’s Review:

Fig Formosa Oolong from Stylin’ Tea Blends is a tea that I should have tried a long time ago. This lovely blend is soothing my tired soul today!

I have been on an oolong kick lately.  This one caught my eye with the flavoring of the fig promise.  I have to say, the promise delivers but in a different way than expected.

First off, lets chat about the dry leaf. The dry leaf is a lovely sweet candy like aroma.  Almost like candied figs.  That was the first thought that came to my mind.  So did this tea deliver on the promise of the sweet candied figs? Yes and no.

This tea didn’t exactly have a fig like flavor but what this tea does deliver on is an almost earl grey like oolong.  I know, peculiar, but that is what this reminds me of. There is a resemblance to earl grey that is just too hard to ignore.  I can’t say I pick up beramot oil per say.  But if I didn’t know better, I would think this was an earl grey oolong! (Which I typically don’t care too much for. But this was is simply brilliant!)

The tea has a sweet yet floral like flavor that swirls on your tongue and plays with your senses.  The oolong has a silky buttery feel that really lets the other flavors become the star.  Really lovely. A great mix of a sweet yet floral tea with a lush decadent background that leaves you wanting more.

Like I said, this tea is really soothing my soul today and giving me all the warm feels!

Taster’s Review:

The other day I came home to an incredibly considerate package from Simpson & Vail. I just love this company and recommend them all the time. They have an amazing story, customer service, and a line of tea that just makes you drool.

This oolong has been one that I instantly grabbed out of the box and have been drinking ever since. I had just finished up my a delicious flavored oolong from Handmade Teas and was wanting another one. This one is completely satisfied that craving!

I scooped a few spoonfuls into my tea pot and prepared my water to 195.  The lovely tea blend had a rich bright coconut aroma.  I couldn’t wait to try it. I allowed the tea to steep for about 4 minutes and poured myself a huge cuppa.  Sat down and took my first sip.

You ever have a day where you need a cuppa tea just to soothe your soul after a rough day? This tea is the answer! A lovely dose of roasted toasted coconut and oolong with a sweet creamy vanilla undertone and a very very slight chocolate note. Wow, this tea is one of those teas that reminds me why I drink tea.  I can’t get enough of it.  I’m typically not a fan of tea blends that feature coconut as the spotlight but this one has the perfect amount of coconut that mixes so well with the oolong. The flavors just go together perfectly. I’m literally on my fourth cuppa of the same infusion and I can’t get enough.

If you haven’t tried Simpson & Vail, I highly recommend taking a second and checking out their offerings. You’ll be glad you did! I’m off to brew up another cup!

Taster’s Review:

When I saw this on Etsy, I just had to try it.  An oolong flavored Vanilla Spiced Pear.  EEK! This one just had to be mine.  So I picked this one up and a few other samples.  I was very excited when this package showed up yesterday.

As soon as I hit the office this morning, I brewed this delight up.  This smells fantastic.  Think Vanilla Pear Candle with hints of Cloves and Cardamom.  The cardamom is what I pick up the most.

So did the smell translate into the flavor? Oh momma. . did it.  This is like a guilty pleasure.  This is too good.  All of the flavors are there.  Vanilla, Pear, Cloves, Cardamom. . .and the best part.  . you can completely pick up the oolong flavor so there is a bit of a vegetal finish to this.  Sounds odd, but this tea really works.  The flavor that does stand front and center is the cardamom but that could be just because I didn’t shake up the bag enough. All I have to add to the flavor of this tea is this tea is absolutely exquisite!

As wonderful as this tea is to drink, this tea is beautiful.  There are huge chunks of pear, whole cloves, and whole cardamoms in the blend.  You can tell this tea has been blended with care.  I can’t wait to take this one home and try it as a latte.

The only bad part of this tea, is that the shipping is more than the tea itself.  For a 10 cup mini the price is $5.59 but the shipping is almost $9.  I know shipping is a big cost for companies and completely understand.  Urban Earth Teas is located in Canada (I am located in the states).

So before taking the dive and ordering the 10 cup minis, I would suggest gandering thru the site and picking up a few samples first.  I don’t think you’ll regret it!

(Edit:  Second infusion was just smooth Vanilla Pear with very slight hints of the spices.  Yum!)

Caramel Apple Oolong from 52 Teas

Caramel Apple Oolong from 52Teas

Tea Information:

Leaf Type: Oolong

Where to Buy: 52Teas

Tea Description:

Here’s a premium oolong tea from the Fujian province in China blended with large pieces of freeze-dried Fuji apples and natural and organic flavors. And no, I didn’t mistype: Fujian Oolong and Fuji apples. Serendipitous. I didn’t even realize I had done that until I typed it.

Taster’s Review:

Caramel Apple Oolong from 52 Teas is one of those teas that I begged and prayed for a re-blend of, and it was indeed re-blended! I love how on 52 Teas website you can sign up to be notified of a re-blend, and it is also 52 Tea’s method to determine which teas are most requested for a re-blend!

So this tea has an excellent oolong base, and the perfect flavors to make you feel like your sipping on sweet succulent caramel apple juices! The caramel flavor is well balanced so that you also get a wonderful fresh fujian apple taste as well, and I do know my apples, I love Fuji apples, and this tea tastes exactly like them! The apple tastes so fresh I swear I can taste the skin!

Some sips provide a slight bit more caramel flavor and some a slight bit more apple flavor but overall most sips are well balanced. I find I enjoy that sip now and then with one flavor more than the other because I do love both apple and caramel so now and again I get a boost of one flavor or another to give me my fix.

Oh and let’s not forget the oolong, its a nice quality oolong that does provide a very good base for this flavor combination, as Frank says, serendipitous, but it works perfectly!

I will savor each sip of this tea, then put in my bid for a re-blend and once again, cross my fingers. A stash must have!
