Mint Green Oolong from My Green Teapot. . . . .

If you are a fan of mint. . spearmint to be exact. . .I highly recommend you continue reading. If you aren’t a fan, this tea is probably not for you. I am a huge mint fan so I couldn’t have been more excited when this tea arrived at my door.

Never ordering from My Green Teapot, I wasn’t sure what to expect.  I certainly didn’t expect the teas to arrive in adorable little take out containers. This tea instantly grabbed my attention and I quickly skipped to my kettle to prep my water.  While the water was prepping, I opened the pouch and was greeted with an amazingly intense cooling spearmint aroma.   One that I enjoyed insanely so.  Being 100% honest, the smell did remind me a bit of toothpaste, but again, being the mint fan I am, this didn’t waiver me in checking this oolong out.

Allowed to steep for a few minutes and cooled, the first sip of this tea revealed that refreshing cooling minty love I was hoping it would in a more spearmint variety.  Refreshing, cooling, and soothing with a lovely mouth feel.  The minty aroma in combination with the minty flavors gave me all the minty feels and love.   The oolong leaves are providing this wonderfully smooth texture that make me want more.

Subsequent steepings yielded the same smooth refreshing cooling flavor but the mint flavor does subside a bit each infusion.   The tea does have a note of astringency that does seem to increase each infusion as well.

All in all, I do love the experience I had with this tea.  It is a unique version of a mint flavored tea that I haven’t had before. . .and I’ve tried a lot of mint teas.  But being 100% honest, I will admit a few notes in regards to this tea.  Even  I will say that when I first opened the pouch, I was afraid that the mint was even too much for me.  This tea is immensely infused with mint, but to me this is a good thing.   I will also admit that after drinking this tea for the last couple of hours, I feel like I’ve brushed my teeth and at the same time- had a very dry mouth feel, which prompted me to drink more of this, causing more of this brushed teeth feel and dry mouth experience.

The more I think about this tea, the more I can see myself needing more of it sooner rather than later.   The tea is extremely memorable and unique.    With how much tea I drink on a daily basis, that is saying something. The cooling effect this tea delivers is one I can’t seem to get enough of. A proper cold brew of this tea is in my future for sure.

Watermelon MajesTea from Cup of Love. . . . .

Watermelon…it’s one of those fruits that many people seem to LOVE or HATE…rarely a ‘Happy Medium’ with Watermelons…it seems! Lucky for me I LOVE Watermelon! So when I saw that the sister company of Vampyre Tea was attempting to perfect their dried watermelon for Watermelon MajesTea from Cup of Love I was VERY excited to try it!

Watermelon MajesTea from Cup of Love contains Oolong Tea, Dried Watermelon, Chunks of White Nectarine, Papaya Pieces, Plum Petals, & Safflower Petals. I’m fairly certain that they dry (dehydrate) the watermelon themselves because I saw their posts on Facebook! I will say that the dried watermelon was a bit sticky to touch but it proved how fresh and REAL it was and that made me even more intrigued!

I really have to pause a moment and tell you about the AMAZING aroma of this tea! The watermelon scents were VERY strong. The smell busted thru the packaging. IMPRESSIVE! This was an intensely flavored oolong.

Flavor-wise the watermelon was the rock star but the chunks of other fruit were a nice addition and seem to round out the fruity flavor nicely. The petals were more for show but still appreciated. No matter which way I slice it I keep going back to the aroma and flavor the watermelon gives off in this. If you are a fan of watermelon like I am I’m pretty sure you will get a KICK out of this flavored oolong. Watermelon MajesTea from Cup of Love is more than ‘just’ a tea…it’s an experience!

On Wisconsin from A Quarter To Tea . . . . A Cheesecake Tea with Cow Sprinkles!

Normally when I see oolong teas with vague names, I pay them no mind. That’s because I don’t usually love oolongs so unless something else catches my eye, I just keep browsing. Luckily I have the sororitea sisters to talk teas with and when I read or hear a rave review, it gets me intrigued…oolong or not. When it came to this tea, CuppaGeek mentioned it was one I just had to get when placing an A Quarter to Tea order and she was certainly right.

One sip. One sip is all it took to get me hooked. In fact, I had a quick cup of this a week ago and have been thinking about it since. So, I couldn’t put it off anymore and got to brewing up another mug of this oolong deliciousness.

This is one of the few teas that promises cheesecake and actually delivers. A slight and familiar cream cheese tang. All atop an incredibly creamy flavor. There is also a honey sweetness drizzled in the mix. All this tastiness and yet the oolong is still present. However, in this case I think it is helping create the overall cheesecake flavor, floral yet sweet. No roastiness. No vegetal flavors. No artificial notes. Just a whole lot of good.

Maple Cheesecake Tie Guan Yin from 52Teas . . . . .

This tea makes me want to use hip words like “yaaaaaaaaaaassss” and “slaaaay, queen.” It makes me want to actually USE my SnapChat account so I can post a picture of my mug and put, like, an overjoyed smiley on it and some sort of catchy phrase underneath. Maybe “tea on fleek”?

This tea comes in cute rolled-up little balls that remind me of hedgehogs when they’re all snuggled in. When you get them in the water, they majestically unfurl into pretty leaves.

The resulting taste is a vegetal, sweet, syruppy, ever-so-slightly nutty flavor. I’m not really getting cheesecake from it, but I’m definitely getting maple.

The tea’s gestalt is like maple dressing on a really tasty salad. And if maple salad dressing does not exist, I would like to claim credit for the idea and become a zillionaire off it.

(leaves) (returns) I just used Google. Someone’s already thought of it.

That’s okay. It was a good moment of optimism. I’ll just have to keep hoping my million-dollar idea is out there. Until then, I’ll happily sip down what remains of this sample.

Though this tea is not available on 52Teas’ site at the moment, you can achieve something similar here.

Happy healthy eating, Internet!

Sir Rhuberry Oolongbottom from BlendBee

My family made a lot of strawberry rhubarb pies in the summertime, and each time I was tasked with washing and chopping the rhubarb from our garden. I was warned that the leaves were poisonous, and only the stems were okay to go in the pie. That dietary fact always made the bowl of chopped rhubarb and eggs and sugar all bubbling together seem like some questionable witches brew. But the resulting pie was always worth the danger, especially with all the pink strawberries in the mix.

Sir Rhuberry Oolongbottom from Blend Bee works to recreate this strawberry rhubarb combination. The dry leaf smells strong and sweet, a bit like artificial strawberry candy. A good dose of hibiscus ensures that this tea brews up bright pink, and brings a blast of tart, fruity flavors. Beneath all the sweet and sour, there is a gentle green, vegetal note, perhaps from the rhubarb or the oolong, and it adds a nice freshness to the tea.
Depending on your love of strawberries, you might really enjoy this tea for the berry sweetness. For me, the strawberry flavoring is very forward, so I would to argue for more rhubarb next time. Though, to be fair, I’m not sure that I would want a full-on rhubarb-only tea.  Rhubarb is achingly sour on its own, and needs strawberries and sugar to truly be palatable. There’s a reason rhubarb and strawberries are so often paired together and this tea is true to that classic strawberry rhubarb pie flavor.
