Drogon from Grimoire Tea

Summer of 2017.  That is when Game of Throne fans have to wait until the next season.  If only you could have heard me wailing when the last season’s final episode aired. . . Game of Thrones is one of those shows that either you are 100% in love with are not at all.  I have yet to find a so-so fan.  This show is one of the first ones that my hubby and I started to binge on when we first started dating.  If you know the show, you can only imagine how uncomfortable that was for us, but we became addicted to the show first episode in.  Anyway, let’s chat about this tea-a GoT fandomtea-Drogon from Grimoire Tea.

Drogon is the name of one of the dragons on GoT.  He is sleek, dangerous, and probably the most powerful of the trio of dragons featured on the show.  Which makes me wonder about this tea and the blend’s connection to the show.  This is a tropical green flavored tea. You would think this blend would be a bold black tea with a chai twist.  But I am so glad it isn’t!

When you first open up your gorgeous packaged bottle (they are dipped in wax!), you are immediately greeted with a sweetness followed by a tropical touch.  There were huge pieces of pineapple and I loved seeing the pops of color from the blue malva flowers.  I steeped up this tea using traditional green tea parameters and steeped the tea for about 3 minutes.  The result?

A gorgeous simple  yet vibrant tropical green tea with a pineapple background and a sweet twist.  I swear I can detect mango as well or maybe that is just my brain messing with me!  This blend packs a brilliant flair of tropical love in each sip.  As wonderful as this tea is brewed hot, I know this tea would be dynamite as a cold brew.  So I will save the rest for a cold brew session later this week.

Drogon from Grimoire Tea is a wonderful example of a very well done green flavored tea. All the flavors are well balanced and go so well with the sencha green tea base.  Makes me wonder if this wasn’t made for the sweet chldlike side this dragon has whenever he is around the Mother of All Dragons.Regardless, this mama is loving it!

#FanaticFriday: Timey Wimey Tea from Because UR Priceless

Being a HUGE Whovian, I couldn’t wait to check this blend out- Timey Wimey from BecauseURpriceless instantly impressed me. The packaging was superb and I loved the whole look of the tea itself.  Pops of bright blue on a bed of black tea and little sparks of light orange.

But as I mentioned in my earlier post today, I had some hesitation because  . .earl grey blends and I have not been the bestest of friends. And that is exactly what this blend is-a mix of earl grey tea and vanilla. But first whiff of this tea and I knew we would be best friends.

Gorgeous smooth vanilla notes mix perfectly with the light tones of the earl grey base. I couldn’t stop smelling the dry leaves. One of those blends that you want to bottle into a candle. I was hoping that those notes I was smelling would translate into a wonderful cuppa.

Set about prepping my tea pot up with freshly boiled water and allowed the two 1/2 scoops of tea to steep for 3 minutes. Took my first sip and  .  .sigh. . .I’m in love.

Rich luxurious vanilla tones that are smooth and decadent start the sip off with a hint of the bergamot here and there with a citrus finish.  The black tea base really lays way for the rich flavors to really take the spotlight. Being one that is not a huge bergamot fan, I appreciated the hints here and there but not dominating the brew.  The citrus notes were the perfect ending.  Each sip is as smooth as the last, even as the tea cools.

I can only imagine how dynamite this tea would be as a cold brew and plan on trying it. This is a tea I’m finding myself craving through out the day.  One of those teas I think I’m going to need to get a stock of for work and home.

One of those perfectly blended earl grey teas and one that is a perfect dedication to the Doctor! .

#FanaticFriday: Rose and The Doctor from Pinch of Geek

I will admit it. This tea had me at the name alone. Rose and The Doctor. And with a tea company name like Pinch of Geek, seriously-I was in love. But when the blend arrived at my door, I realized this was a earl grey tea and lavender mix- my heart sank a bit. (I’m not a huge fan of earl grey or lavender teas)

But I put on my BIG  girl pants and prepped my water. A few minutes later I had a pot full of this tea ready for me to check out. I will have to say that I wasn’t instantly in love with the dry leaf aroma but I loved smelling this tea steep- there was a romantic vibe in the air.

Took a sip of this tea and my cup hasn’t touched the table since. I am drinking this tea like it is a contest! Bright romantic floral sweetness greets you first with a burst of flavor.  In the middle of the sip, the earl grey says hi with a bit more subtlety and at the very end there is that familiar perfume like twist from the lavender.  The earl grey and lavender are not overwhelming in the least bit. They actually add a bit of a texture to the tea and dimension.  I am a bit surprised I’m even saying this but they actually heighten the tea.

Gorgeous, perfectly balanced, full bodied and beautiful flavors-this tea just keeps giving. I’m currently on my third infusion and the flavor has lessened but I’m still picking up that flavor I am crushing on.

If you are a Doctor Who fanatic (like me!), this tea fits Rose and the Doctor perfectly.  Even if you are not a fan of earl greys or florals, I implore you to try this one. The blend has taken me off guard with how much I’m loving it.

Death Eater from Grimoire Tea

il_570xN.991538304_iiix

CuppaGeek’s Review:

Death Eater from Grimoire Tea is a fandom tea for the Harry Potter Verse.   I just love fandom teas.

There is just something that gives you the warm fuzzies when you drink a tea dedicated to your favorite fandom. But I have to admit, I’m not a huge Harry Potter fan. . .I know. . .shame on me. But that doesn’t mean I can’t appreciate what this tea is going for. After all, I’m one that likes those darker villains in movies. . .and The Death Eaters are right up there in the evil category!

Death Eater  fits the name perfectly. The blend is a mix of black tea, spearmint, and peppermint.  A wonderful combination for the villains this tea is portraying.  Dark and brooding with notes of vibrancy and a cooling factor. . . .

Brewed hot:

Brewed up with fresh boiled water and steeped for about 4 minutes, the first sip resulted in a lovely malty note with a kick of minty freshness.  Simple, yet very satisfying. Found myself devouring my first cuppa and reaching for more water before I knew it.

I know a spearmint and peppermint combo in a blend can be intimidating and for this blend it serves a purpose. I loved the refreshing notes that came after that familiar malty black tea base that I adore. Once this tea started to cool, I was afraid of an astringency factor coming to play but that was never the case. Even while cooling, I enjoyed this delicious minty malty beverage.

Cold Brewed:

I wanted to try this as a cold brew so I scooped a few heap fulls into my infuser, ice, and cold water.  Allowed the steepter for an hour and took a sip.  Fresh brisk minty notes, the kind you want to find on hot summer days or just for a refreshing cuppa.

This tea is nothing but good tea loving even tho it is dedicated to bad guys.

I’m excited to see what other fandom teas Grimoire Teas offers to add to my collection!

The Love Dalek Tea from Adagio Teas (Custom Blends)

65071-300x187

CuppaGeek’s Review:

Love Dalek Tea (from Adagio Teas Custom Blend platform) is a blend based off of the Doctor Who series, one of my personal favorite.   After taking a whiff of the dry leaf mix, you can almost taste a white tea flavor with notes of tart cherry and hibiscus. A great play on flavor-tart and floral.

Brewed up with water at 190F and allowed 3 minutes to steep, I was eager to take my first sip.  In this blend it seems, black tea is king.  I was eager for those white floral notes to pop out and play with the tart cherry flavorings added- but that didn’t happen right away.

At the very beginning of each sip, you know that the black tea reigns supreme.  What I was hoping would be a lovely floral cherry tea with a slight astringency, turned into a heavy handed astringent hibiscus tea party.

But I wasn’t ready to just say, this isn’t my cuppa.  After all, this is a Doctor Who blend.  So I prepped a few more sessions with this tea. And Eureka! After third infusion I was finally able to pull out a lovely white tea astringent tea with pops of floral and cherry notes.  Delicious and exactly what I was looking for.

So what are my final thoughts on this tea? As confused as the blend seems to be, I think there is potential. This may be a tea that needs a good solid cold brew to allow all the flavors an opportunity to shine.  I’m glad I have a few servings left to try just that!

All in all, I still love the idea behind Custom Blends from Adagio Teas. Drinking a tea dedicated to your favorite fandoms just gives one warm fuzzies!!
