PRODUCT REVIEW: Green Tea Butter Caramels from Fusion Sweets

Where to Buy:  Fusion Sweets on Etsy ~or~ Fusion Sweets website

Product Description:

For some, the taste of childhood is Hershey bars and marshmallow fluff. For me, it is green tea caramel.

Reminiscent of vintage Japanese milk candies, our green tea butter caramels burst with the bright, fragrant, grassy notes of high quality green tea powder.

Taster’s Review:

These are oh-so-delicious!

The caramels are very soft and smooth in texture, although there is a little bit of “grit” (for lack of a better word) from the Matcha green tea.  This in no way detracts from the pleasurable texture of the caramels, though.

The Matcha gives these caramels a delicious twist on the classic caramel taste.  There are creamy, milky sweet tones from the caramel that meld so perfectly with the vegetative and vibrant notes from the Matcha.  It tastes … well, it tastes like Matcha and caramel!  And what a wonderful way to enjoy the health benefits of this green tea.

Yes, that’s right.  This is health food.  It’s good for me.  They’re Super-Candies! So, it’s quite alright to indulge in another … and another … and even another.  (That’s my story and I’m sticking to it)  My only lament about these “uper-candies is that now, they are gone…

If you love Matcha, these treats are a MUST TRY!  And buy a bunch, you’ll be glad you did!

Pineapple Papaya Green Tea from Dreamweaver’s Shop

Tea Information:

Leaf Type:  Green

Where to Buy:  Dreamweaver’s Shop on Etsy

Product Description:

Wonderful tastes and colors create a tea that is delightful to brew and delicious to drink! Pineapple Papaya Green uses Chinese Sencha as its base, a green tea with slender leaves that produces a yellow cup and a naturally sweet flavor. The Sencha is followed by pineapple pieces and blue malva flowers, which deliver soothing and healing vitamins and enzymes. Delight in this sensational tea with health benefits to boot!

Ingredients- Sencha green tea, pineapple pieces, blue malva flowers and fruit flavor.

Taster’s Review:

When I first steeped this tea, I steeped it at a low temperature (as I generally do with green teas) for three minutes.  And, I found that the flavor was very mild, to the point of being very difficult to discern.  So, I decided to steep it for another two full minutes, and the flavor was a little stronger.  A drizzle of agave nectar really helped the flavors to pop.

The Sencha base is smooth and sweet with a creamy buttery note.  The pineapple and papaya flavors lend their sweet tropical flair to the cup.  The pineapple has a nice tangy note to it that tickles the tip of the tongue in the aftertaste.

As I mentioned at the start of this review, these flavors are a bit on the softer side.  But that’s OK, because the Sencha is front and center here and that is the way it should be. It is a light, refreshing cup that is a pleasure to sip.  This is good iced, too, but I would recommend adding a little bit more sweetener to it to help enhance the flavor.

you know how most chocolate teas leave you feeling disapointed. remember what i said about our quality. now try the best this is the chocolate tea that will take away that candy bar craving. sweeten it with a pinch of stevea and reduce the calories even more

Taster’s Review:

As some of you probably are well aware, I am a chocoholic.  Therefore, when it comes to tea, chocolate is one of my favorite flavorings.  As a result, I have tasted a lot of chocolate teas, and I’ve reviewed quite a few of them.

There are a lot of great chocolate teas out there, and some of them … not so great.  This one falls somewhere in between, leaning a little more toward the not so great than the great.  And I confess myself to be a little disappointed, because I was really looking forward to this tea.  I not only love chocolate, I especially love a spiced chocolate, because I love the contrast between sweet and spicy.

Let me start with the chocolate – it is a strong chocolate taste, and I like that.  In fact, the chocolate flavor in this tea is its redeeming quality. It tastes authentic and rich and delicious, and it is what is keeping me sipping this tea.

The black tea base is decent, although it is plagued by the overwhelming flavor of chicory root.  Normally, I enjoy chicory root in a tea – I love the deep, roasted flavor that it offers.  However, with this tea the chicory root is too strong and overwhelms the tea.  This causes the tea to have a funky taste that remains well into the aftertaste.  The funky taste is almost numbing to the taste buds, and making the tea less enjoyable overall.  It just tastes “off” somehow…

This tea is just OK with me.  I liked the chocolate flavor, but its the rest of the blend that sort of ruins the cup for me.  It isn’t my favorite, but I would really love to hear from others who have tried this tea and enjoyed it.  It could be that I just got an “off” batch.  I don’t know… but if you’ve tried it and liked it, please comment!

Lemon Cream Tea from Sands of Thyme

Tea Information:

Leaf Type:  Green & White

Where to Buy:  Sands of Thyme on Artfire ~0r~ Sands of Thyme on Etsy

Product Description:

Ingredients: white tea China Pai Mu Tan, green tea Darjeeling, green tea China -Fog Tea, -Lung Ching, -Jasmine, -Jasmine Jade Pearls, orange peels, flavor, lemongrass, yogurt bits, lemon bits

Taster’s Review:

This tea has a lot going on, but, it works!

The base of green and white teas alone is rather interesting, consisting of a white tea (Pai Mu Tan) and several different green teas.  In the sample I received, I didn’t find any jasmine pearls, but I can definitely taste the presence of jasmine in this cup.  It is a soft note of jasmine, but I like that its there.

The white tea is not very distinguishable in this cup, although, I don’t think that this tea would taste the same without the white tea.  While it isn’t easy to discern specific “white tea” qualities, it is obvious that there is more than just green tea notes.  The base tastes lively and smooth.  There is some vegetative taste to the tea as well.  There is no bitterness to this tea.  A moderate amount of pucker-y astringency at the tail that works very well with the lemony flavor.

Although I didn’t notice any of the yogurt bits in the blend when I measured out the tea, I must have gotten some in there because I can taste the tangy taste of yogurt.  The yogurt along with the combination of teas (and this is where I suspect the white tea plays a role) create the creamy note of this tea which is not overwhelmingly creamy, but just enough to tie in with the name of the tea.  I’m not left asking “where’s the cream?” with this tea.

Overall, this is a very interesting and delightful cup of tea.  It isn’t too pungent or over-the-top, nor is it too subtle with its approach.  A very nice tea makes me think of spring on this cold winter’s eve!

Organic Peaceful Dreams from Teas & Tapestries

Tea Information:

Leaf Type:  Herbal

Where to Buy:  Teas & Tapestries on Etsy

Product Description:

(Organic Caffeine Free Herbal Tea) Chamomile makes a pleasant aromatic tea with a fruity flavor, enhanced by sugar or honey. It is often sipped for relief of health problems ranging from toothache to nervousness. Chamomile has also been noted as beneficial for soothing headaches and is a natural relaxing herb known to assist the restless and those suffering from insomnia. In many circles Chamomile is called nighty night tea or sleepy tea on account of its natural properties which promote restfulness and drowsiness. It is also known to assist digestive disorders by settling the stomach and calming the nerves. This tea blend has an added benefit of peppermint. Peppermint It has been reported and written that peppermint sweetens the breath and calms the digestive system, plus it helps heartburn, stomach ache and nausea. I also add ginger for its numerous health benefits! Scientists have found evidence to support gingers wide range of medicinal actions. These actions include the lowering of cholesterol levels, relief for allergies and asthma, arthritis, colds, and nausea; and protecting the digestive tract and liver against toxins and parasites…along with many other benefits.

This tea is not a commercial blend, but I personally hand mix it in small batches to ensure quality and uniformity of each and every custom tea tin.

Taster’s Review:

I just love shopping with tea vendors on venues like Etsy.  After all, it is venues like this where I sold my teas!  Teas & Tapestries is one such vendor.  And I just love her shop!  Lovely banner, beautiful labels, and some very intriguing tea blends!

This herbal blend that I’m sipping now is really very good.  I am always somewhat hesitant when it comes to herbal teas.  I worry that they’ll either be medicinal in taste or just plain gross.  This one is neither!

The flavor is gentle and sweet and lightly floral with hints of peppery ginger and zesty mint.  Even though the chamomile seems to be the main ingredient in this blend, it is not the dominant flavor.  But that’s just fine with me, as I am not usually terribly fond of chamomile.  I can a delicate, fruity note from the chamomile, but, amid the stronger flavors of the ginger and mint, it doesn’t permeate the blend.

The ginger does not overwhelm, and neither does the peppermint.  The tea also contains chocolate mint, rose, rosehips and lemon balm.  Together, these ingredients create a sweet, soothing blend where no one flavor is overpowering.  It is a very harmonious balance.

The sip begins with a union of flavors that is a little fruity and a little flowery, and then the ginger kicks in with its distinctive flavor.  The tail of the sip brings in the mint, and the clean, cool taste of the mint lingers into the aftertaste.  It is really quite a pleasurable tea, one that I wouldn’t mind sipping every evening just before bedtime.
