#FanaticFriday: Rose and The Doctor from Pinch of Geek

I will admit it. This tea had me at the name alone. Rose and The Doctor. And with a tea company name like Pinch of Geek, seriously-I was in love. But when the blend arrived at my door, I realized this was a earl grey tea and lavender mix- my heart sank a bit. (I’m not a huge fan of earl grey or lavender teas)

But I put on my BIG  girl pants and prepped my water. A few minutes later I had a pot full of this tea ready for me to check out. I will have to say that I wasn’t instantly in love with the dry leaf aroma but I loved smelling this tea steep- there was a romantic vibe in the air.

Took a sip of this tea and my cup hasn’t touched the table since. I am drinking this tea like it is a contest! Bright romantic floral sweetness greets you first with a burst of flavor.  In the middle of the sip, the earl grey says hi with a bit more subtlety and at the very end there is that familiar perfume like twist from the lavender.  The earl grey and lavender are not overwhelming in the least bit. They actually add a bit of a texture to the tea and dimension.  I am a bit surprised I’m even saying this but they actually heighten the tea.

Gorgeous, perfectly balanced, full bodied and beautiful flavors-this tea just keeps giving. I’m currently on my third infusion and the flavor has lessened but I’m still picking up that flavor I am crushing on.

If you are a Doctor Who fanatic (like me!), this tea fits Rose and the Doctor perfectly.  Even if you are not a fan of earl greys or florals, I implore you to try this one. The blend has taken me off guard with how much I’m loving it.

Taster’s Review:

If you haven’t checked out A Quarter To Tea, I implore you to do so. A Quarter to Tea offers fresh gorgeous unique blends that make you crave more. And Coconut Carrot Cashew is no exception.

Coconut Carrot Cashew is an very unique and odd blend. Who would have thought that these three flavors would work together. But I have to say, they do brilliantly!

Let’s start with the ingredients in this blend. First whiff of this package and you get the sugar coconut noes right off the bat.  There is that good ol fashioned black tea fragrance that just makes ones heart happy.

Per the brewing suggestions, I steeped this blend for 4 minutes with water prepped at 200F.  Once the timer went off letting me know the tea was ready, I did allow the tea to cool for a moment or two. I was eager to try this delight!

First sip in and I am in LOVE. I have to say this tea has it all.

Gorgeous sweet almost sugary notes of coconut envelope the entire sip. The perfect amount of sweet to contrast with the subtle yet vibrant malty and astringent black tea base.  The carrot and cashew tones finish up perfectly with a carrot cake like finish. During each sip, you could almost imagine a lush decadent carrot cake with icing piled high.

I have tried several different dessert teas and several blends boasting that they taste like carrot cake. I have never tasted a tea that tasted more like a carrot cake than this one. Initially I was worried that the coconut in the blend would take over since the flakes are quite large, but that wasn’t the case. The coconut brought this tea to a whole new level completing that baked good note that A Quarter To Tea has captured.

So what I’m trying to say is yeah. . .this tea is good. . . . very good. . . Brilliant actually!

Taster’s Review:

I have been wanting to try Friday Tea’s offerings for a while. And to my delight the other day I received a box from them thru a gift exchange I recently participated in.

This tea was the first one I had to try.  A lovely herbal blend of peaches, apple, orange cinnamon, chamomile, and blue cornflower. The tea itself was gorgeous to look at and smelled amazingly fruity .  I couldn’t wait to brew the tea up.

Steeped in water that was fresh boiled and allowed to sit for a few minutes, this tea was amazingly fruity, vibrant and delicious.  You first get a lovely base of the peaches with notes of cinnamon giving the tea a bit of a spiced kick, but a gentle kick.  The chamomile comes in next providing the blend with an almost baked dessert feeling and taste.  Each sip finishes off with a lush citrus note that lovingly completes the tea.

What I am trying to say, is this tea is dynamite! One of the better herbal teas I’ve had in a while and one that is impressive from the first sip. I’m on my second infusion and this tea is continuing to give this really bright and vibrant peachy flavor.   I can just imagine making this into a cold brew or as an iced tea.  This is one of those teas that will be amazing (I bet) anyway you prep it.

I’m excited to dig into the rest of the box to see what other lovely teas I have from them. I see a possible order in my future! Friday Tea offers quite a few unique teas that I can’t wait to check out.

Taster’s Review:

Shame on me! I found this poor neglected tea in one of my tea storage bins over the weekend. I should know better. I was so excited when I first received this tea but alas, it was pushed to the back of the bin.  Well I have rectified this problem but drinking about 3 cups of this brew this morning!

This tea is no longer available on the Solstice Brews Etsy site but there are so many other amazingly awesome teas available. Like Tardis Tea.  That one has my name written all over it!

This tea is a gorgeous blend of green tea, with huge and I mean huge bits of pineapple and coconut in it. I couldn’t believe how lovely the inclusions were for this tea. Normally you just get little pieces, but not with this tea. You could smell the tropical feel in the aroma coming off of the dry leaves.

I prepped water at 190F and scooped a few spoon fulls of tea into my infuser. Poured the water in and allowed the tea to brew for about 3 minutes. I was greeted and rewarded with a lovely light and refreshing cuppa that just shined.  All flavors were present and accounted for.

The green tea was a lovely buttery goodness that laid the foundation for the other flavors to play off of. The coconut was sweet and gave that familiar flavor to the blend and the pineapple tasted like fresh pineapples! What I loved the most about this tea was that it didn’t taste like a pina colada but all those flavors were noted.  I am not a big pina colada fan so that just made me happy. I loved how all of the flavors created a happy feeling tea that was so light but with rich flavors. Very refreshing and this would make an absolutely smashing ice tea with a pineapple wedge for a garnish!

Another reason why I love Solstice Brews so much. Her teas are solid and you can count on them being marvelous!

Taster’s Review:

First thought when I saw this tea was YES! Chrysanthemums!

Over the summer, I discovered these delicious floral teas with Chrysanthemum in it.  Wow. My taste buds squealed in delight!

This tea is a unique blend of floral, spices, black tea, and a few herbals sprinkled in for good measure.  This tea looks amazing. The dry leaf mixture had such a nice sweet slightly savory/floral aroma.  Really nice.  I couldn’t wait to brew this up.  I poured the entire sample I bought into my tea pot, added the water and let it steep for 4 minutes.

While this tea was steeping, I swear I was drooling. This tea smelled just so good!

Finally it was time to try it.  Took my first sip and yes, there is the good stuff.  This tea really gives me the “wow” factor I look for.  There is a unique sweet taste with hints of floral notes and a slightly savory sage finish.  The tea base is nice and gives the tea a nice background depth.  There are also notes of lemon here and there.  Such a silky like smooth tea.  So rich and full of flavor! I can’t get enough!

What is fantastic is that when you order this tea, you can order it caffeinated or not.  Of course I choose caffeinated.  I need something to get me thru the 2pm hour! I was also able to steep this tea about 4 times before noticing a lack of flavor.

If you aren’t familiar with AstroloTea, take a moment and check out the site.  The owner is amazing and has such a great variety of teas for everybody!

By the way, if anybody is following my epic adventure to sipdown my teas. . .This makes #9! Woohoo!
