Luna Tea from Moongleam Tea Shoppe #VeganMoFo2016

Today’s prompt for Vegan MoFo is greyscale so I couldn’t resist posting about an earl grey tea!

Luna Tea from Moongleam Tea. I’m not going to lie…I love the name of the tea as well as the name of the tea company! My love for this tea goes beyond the names, folks! The ingredients include Black Tea, Lavender, Chamomile, Bergamot, and Basil. You may already know that I cannot get enough black tea in my life! I start each day with at least 1 (or 5). The Lavender is strong in this flavored black tea but I like it! Chamomile is one of the ingredients I could normally go without but if done right I can enjoy. Let’s just say that the Chamomile in Luna Tea from Moongleam Teas is done right! The Bergamot offers the citrus, juiciness I was craving. And the Basil seems to even everything out nicely.

With all of this in mind I have to say that this blend of flavors awakened all of the senses and put a smile on my face, too! It’s very calming and makes for a peaceful cuppa. I found this to also be a comforting tea – much like a comfort food would be comforting on a stressful day – or a cold fall day – both of which I have been faced with lately. Luna Tea from Moongleam Teas is a pure delight!

This classically crafted tea is one of the first blends I ever created.
Smooth bergamot, coupled with chamomile, black tea, lavender, and basil, gives this tea a punctuating freshness. I have always loved Earl Grey because of the Bergamot in it, so I tweaked it to make it even better!

Winter Cinnamon Green Tea from The Kettlery Plus A Giveaway!

Winter will soon be upon us. You can feel the chill in the air. At least here in the Midwest you can.  Our nights are getting colder and are days are starting to get that winter like feel to them.  This is when I start really drinking teas that have that soul soothing warmth to keep me going!

wintercinnamongreentea2Winter Cinnamon Green Tea from The Kettlery is a flavored green tea that is a blend of green tea, orange flavors and spices, like cinnamon.  The description of the tea says that this is a spicy tea with a mild tangy profile. I’m not sure about the tang but there is a resounding spice note for sure.

This tea starts off with a warming buttery richness from the green tea with a very noticeable cinnamon flavor. The orange flavors are mild and seems like the cinnamon may be overwhelming those flavors. This is the second time I’ve had this tea and cup after cup, this is what I’m picking up- a green cinnamon tea.  Which is lovely. This tea gives me that warm and cozy feel that I can really wrap my hands around.  Give me a huge mug of this with my favorite blanket and a good book and I’ll be set!

It would be nice to get those orange teas to pop but I’m quite content with what I have. Maybe some experimenting will get those notes to come through.

Earl Gray From Ahmad Tea

My daughter’s boyfriend spent part of his summer holiday in London. He had a good time, and I’m sure it’s a trip he’ll always remember. When he came home he gave me a lovely set of teas. Have I mentioned my daughter is dating a brilliant young man? He most certainly knows how to make this tea lover smile! Since I’m a fan of Earl Grey I tried this tea first and have enjoyed several cups of it already.

The flavor of the tea is simple but good. The scent of the bergamot is strong. In fact it was so strong that I was expecting the citrus note to overwhelm the tea. However, the bergamot flavor is light and blends nicely with the tea. There is a crispness as well as a tiny bit of dryness at the end of the sip. I didn’t find the slight astringency distracting. In fact, I felt that it added to the overall pleasantness of the cup.

If you are a big fan of bergamot and want a strong hit of citrus with each sip then this might not be the tea for you. For those looking for an Earl Grey that has a nice balance between the bergamot and the base tea then this is a tea with checking out. Personally, I will be reaching for this one again and again.

Maybe… just maybe… I’ll get to make my own trip to England one day to replenish my stash. My inner Anglophile is doing a happy dance at the very thought of it. Until then, cheers!

Organic Earl Grey from Hope and Glory

The leaves of this tea have a lovely refreshing fragrance even before steeping. I steeped it just after boiling, as per the steeping info. I used about 5 grams for about 10 oz. of water.
I steeped it in one of my wire mesh ball infusers, but next time I’d plan to use my fine-weave steeping basket because some of the leaves are fine enough that a few leaf particles escaped through the mesh. (I’m not sure if this is normal for this tea or if my sample just got squished in the mail, though.) I really enjoyed the balanced blend here; the bergamot was strong, but not strong enough to mask the scent of the black tea. Once sipped, the bergamot stood out more, but it’s still a very enjoyable blend. The bergamot offers bright, clean notes to contrast with the smooth black-tea flavor.
I like experimenting with how sugar and milk affect my tea, so I tried adding a little sugar. This brought out the friendly citrusy side of the bergamot (rather than the tangy acidic side), which I liked. I then added a little milk, which brought out the flavor of the black tea more. The aftertaste was nice as well–quite clean and refreshing.
Overall, I’d say that it’s definitely strong enough for a breakfast tea (for me, anyway) and that the familiar combination of black tea and bergamot is well-done here. The bergamot is strong enough to keep things interesting but doesn’t completely edge out the tea flavor. Also, it’s organic and fair trade, so you can feel great about yourself while drinking it! That’s always fun.

#FanaticFriday: Sherl Grey from Geeky Teas

I have always had a love hate relationships with bergamot and earl grey blends. But when I saw Sherl Grey Tea from Geeky Teas, I had to try it. Well because I’m sort of obsessed with Sherlock. I even named my new puppy Benedict after the lead actor of Sherlock.

Sherlock is one of those shows that you watch one episode and you are hooked. Each episode is almost like a mini movie and with our schedule with 4 boys, watching an hour and a half episode a night causes havoc.  But this show is captivating and  extremely engaging.  We binged on all available seasons in just a few weeks. We actually formed family time around the show. But enough about the show, let us chat tea!

Sherl Grey isn’t your typical earl grey blend. The flavors are light and subtle but full of flavor.  First whiff of the blend I knew I was in for a treat.

Brewed up with water prepped at 212F and allowed to steep for about 4 minutes, this blend yielded one of the best earl grey teas I’ve had.  The tea tasted fresh and though the bergamot was present, I didn’t feel overwhelmed by that notable flavor. I was able to enjoy the lovely mix of citrus tang, black tea base, a creamy lush texture, and a slight berry twist at the end of every sip. Incredibly enjoyable and one that I will be ordering more of to enjoy when I’m watching the next season of Sherlock.

This is one of the better tea blends I’ve had from Geeky Teas. Even my husband asked me if we could order more of this one. I can’t wait to try this tea on ice!
