I was having a pleasant morning, sipping on this Lemon-Lime Meringue Kukicha Green Tea and eating my breakfast. Things were going well until my two dogs decided to fight over a cookie under my chair. When we pulled them apart, one had a bloody nose and we didn’t realize right away so blood got everywhere, especially when she started sneezing causing splatters on the walls, floor, and even my sister and her husband. She was totally fine but it looked like a tiny murder happened in our house so this tea got put aside for a bit while we attended to the literal dog fight and cleaning up the aftermath.
Getting back to the tea it was still a touch warm and luckily the flavors didn’t seem to change that much from the hotter cup I was drinking prior to the chaos, as some teas tend to do when they cool. I think this is my first Kukicha green tea and it looked like it may have been particularly herbal tasting (between the kukicha and lemongrass) but that wasn’t the case thankfully. This has a real sweet and fluffy quality to it that when combined with the vanilla bean definitely helps sell the meringue. Complimentary to that is the creamy citrus notes of the lemon-lime which makes for a nice dessert tea.
This is a great little bright tea. The flavors are sweet and yet bright and refreshing. It could be a good afternoon treat or like I said before, a nice choice for dessert after dinner. Another hit for 52 Teas!

Carve off a Slice of Frosted Carrot Cake from A Quarter to Tea. . . . . .
In my experience I’ve found that people either love or hate carrot cake. As for me, with my enormous sweet tooth, I’ll enjoy a slice of carrot cake any day, but that’s not always the case for others. What? Carrots? Cake? Who’s sneaking vegetables into my dessert? I can understand the dichotomy.
Whether you love carrot cake or not, it’s hard to resist trying a tea flavor as bold and unusual as Frosted Carrot Cake from A Quarter to Tea. From the beginning, these tea leaves have a lot going on. This is a genmai cha-based blend, so sencha green tea and gold puffs of toasted rice are available in abundance. Beside the rice there are actual carrot pieces in the blend, as well as raisins, and dried pineapple. Ginger and cinnamon balance out this ingredients list and bring their usual baked-good-charms to the flavor palette.
The most impressive part of this blend is the vanilla frosting element, which actually tastes a bit tart and tangy like real cream cheese. This isn’t just plain-old vanilla flavoring, the specific carrot-cake cream cheese frosting is alive and well in this cup of tea.
This is a green tea, so mind your temperatures and steeps times, no matter how delicious the cake aspects smell, take out the teabag after a few minutes to avoid any bitter undertones. The frosting notes get more prominent as the tea cools.
Believe it or not, this tea does taste like carrot cake, even without sugar or milk, the fruits and veggies in the tea leaves bring enough natural starchiness and sweetness to make this blend feel full and decadent.

Gingerbread Green Tea from Twinings. . . .
This tea came in my little care package I received from my dear friend who lives in the UK. When I saw that it was a gingerbread green tea, my mind instantly thought of a Chai type tea, so i figured I would make it and add a little sugar and coconut milk.
But the directions on the package said to not add milk. I had my doubts, but decided to not be a rebel and listen to the instructions. I was very pleasantly surprised! It has a definite sweet, cake like flavor.
The ginger flavor is definitely there, but it isn’t too strong and is not spicy or bitter at all. This is definitely one of my favorite teas I’ve tried this year. It needed no sweetener at all. It tasted like dessert in a cup. I really don’t know how they did it, as the ingredients are just green tea, ginger root and natural flavoring.
But it tastes so much more complex than three simple ingredients. I would be happy if I could drink this every day for the rest of my life! I could just imagine having this tea during the holidays, with a fireplace roaring and cheerful music on in the background. Or instead of hot chocolate, having a cup of this after doing something in the snow.
This is the third Twinings tea I’ve tried, and I am very impressed by each flavor. They are all perfectly balanced, naturally sweet and just a real treat. Even though the weather is warming up, this is still a very delicious tea to try.
If all gingerbread tasted as delicious as this tea, I would eat a lot more gingerbread!!

It is Macaroon Season: Try Coconut Almond Macaroon from the NecessiTeas
I feel like I’ve see a lot of macaroon-themed teas popping up this spring so it felt like time to try a tea I was saving in my collection, Coconut Almond Macaroon from the NecessiTeas.
It’s a little known fact that I like coconut in my baked goods and sweets. Almond Joy bars or Coconut Cluster Girl Scout cookies are the way to go! And don’t even get me started on Hostess Sno-Balls…
The dry leaf of this blend smelled strongly of almond, almost like amaretto liqueur or almond extract. Almond was definitely the dominant tone, but there was some coconut cream hiding beneath the marzipan fragrance. This tea has a green tea base, so I kept the water temperatures a little lower and let it steep. I could hardly keep my nose out of the mug while I waited. The brew smelled so delicious, sweet and nutty, with much more coconut coming forward as time went on.
This tea is true to its name: coconut macaroon. There’s the smooth, almond-cookie, sweet chocolate, and plenty of buttery coconut. Using green tea beneath all these flavors was a great choice by The Necessiteas. The coconut is toasted and warm, and almost makes the green tea taste like a roasted hojicha. The green tea also makes this blend light enough that the coconut and chocolate don’t need to compete for prominence, and it allows the cookie flavors to really shine. After a long day, this was the perfect dessert tea to brew up as a treat!

Almond Cookie from Tea & Tins. . . .
Lately I have had a serious obsession with pistachio ice cream. Like, I have eaten almost 3 quarts of it in the past 2 weeks. Well, pistachios themselves have a very mild flavor. Subsequently, the ice cream itself is actually flavored with almond. Have you ever noticed that pistachio ice cream kind of smells like biscottis? Well, that’s because of the almond flavoring.
Unfortunately, I haven’t seen many pistachio ice cream teas circulating around in our little “tea-world” as of late. So, when I saw Almond Cookie by Tea & Tins I figured that it may help curb my craving for pistachio ice cream because of the almond flavor.
Upon opening the bag, the sweet smell of almond and coconut filled my nose. Yum! I could see coconut shreds and almond pieces scattered about the green tea. Once steeped the smell of cookie was much more prevalent, but the almond and coconut was still very much there. I steeped this tea with hot water for about 3 minutes. It was very smooth and light, with a prominent taste of green tea. I added agave to add some sweetness, but it was also sweet on it’s own. I could taste the coconut and almond flavor, but unfortunately the flavor of “cookie” did not translate from smell to taste.
Nonetheless, this tea was still very well done and tasty. I don’t think I could say that it will be replacing my love for pistachio ice cream, but it is something that I will continue to enjoy and would purchase again. Another “win” for Tea & Tins!
