Taster’s Review:

I won an ounce of Lemon Pepper Melange from Della Terra Teas on their Facebook page. If you do not follow Della Terra on Facebook I suggest that you do. They often run drawings for tea, and always post their most current sale there. Anyway, I was the lucky winner of this tea and I love it, not because it was free, but I really love it. So what is wrong with this picture? Well the fact is, it has lemongrass in it! Some of you may know how much I despise lemongrass. This is not a tea I would have ever paid for in a million years, so it is a good thing I won it because I would have been short changing myself from a stellar tea!

This tea is so perfect. The lemon is the obvious leading role in this blend but the pepper and spices give it a nice kick. Some of the spices in this tea remind me of a chai blend, while others a fruit tea blend. This would be delicious on the holidays, but I am thinking it will be an amazing tea to drink iced this summer too. This is so fresh, lemony without being sweetened, which is nice because the fruits give off the perfect amount of sweetness naturally. There are very nice spicy notes here too, and the pepper kick is the right amount. It tastes very fresh and is refreshing as well. A great morning or anytime tea.

You know, really the lemongrass does not bother me at all in this blend. I really do not notice it is there and trust me I have tried to find it! In a way, and this may sound bizarre, but I believe it is the lemongrass giving tea blend an almost bubble gum like flavor at the very end of the sip. Not that I have ever thought lemongrass, on its own, taste anything like bubble gum. But with all of the fruits, the spices, the black tea, somehow at the end of the sip I get this bubble gum type note that I really feel comes from the lemongrass. Maybe I just convinced myself of that. Anyway, for someone who has literally sworn off ALL lemongrass teas, Della Terra has opened my mind, my eyes, and my taste buds. I tell you what though, if anyone could do this it would be Della Terra as they have some of the most stellar tea blends.

Now I do not feel I will be trying every lemongrass blend I come across or anything, but Della Terra does have a few others I have skipped over that I think I will give a try now. Maybe in one of their Try Me packs.

Taster’s Review:

While sorting through my tea stash (it never seems to get any smaller no matter how much tea I drink and cook with and give to friends … not complaining, mind you, just stating a fact), I came across this Grandma’s Pumpkin Pie Flavored Black Tea from Della Terra Teas, the last that I had yet to try from the autumn sampler that I bought sometime this past autumn.  So, I decided I’d have some pumpkin pie in my teacup this afternoon!

And even though it is a decidedly autumnal blend (and isn’t it cute with those little pumpkin shaped candy sprinkles?), it tastes good now, even though it’s starting to look a lot like summer!  Anytime is a good time for pumpkin pie!

The pumpkin flavor is smooth and sweet, and I love the warm spices.  Cinnamon is prominent, but, I taste hints of clove and nutmeg as well.  It’s a very cozy tasting tea … one of those comforting kinds of tea.  It is also very dessert-y (obviously!) and would make a great dessert option for those who want something sweet and indulgent without partaking of the calories.

The black tea is a little hidden behind the flavors here, but, not so hidden that it’s completely absent.  That is to say that I taste the black tea, it’s just a rather mellow tasting black tea that seems content with being set off in the background and letting the pumpkin-y flavors and spice notes play the starring roles here.

One thing that is missing, though, is the pie crust.  I found myself wishing that there was a touch of buttery, pastry-like flavor here to round things out.  Oh, don’t get me wrong, this is a really tasty tea … even without the pie crust flavor, but, if we’re talking pumpkin pie, there should be some pie crust, right?

This tea tastes great served straight, but I actually prefer it with a little bit of turbinado sugar to bring out the spices and enhance the pumpkin-y flavors.  Add a splash of milk to bring out the creamy notes, because, let’s face it, what’s pumpkin pie without that dollop of creamy whipped cream?

YUM!

Taster’s Review:

Mellow Mango Peach from Della Terra Teas is one of my favorite blends from Della Terra, although it is difficult to pick a favorite from all of their amazing teas!

This tea taste so light, so fruity, and I absolutely love the tropical notes playfully bouncing around on my palate! The peach and mango in this tea are unmistakable and so natural tasting. This tea is absolutely amazing hot or iced and I love drinking it both ways. This is a summer staple for sure. I adore a good peach tea, but this is my all time favorite peach tea around! Not to forget about the mango but I do enjoy the peach notes most because I have always been on the search for the best peach tea, and I have yet to find one I like more.

I also really like that Della Terra lists all possible allergens on their site. I had purchased a lot of tea for someone last holiday season and she has some severe allergies, so I went right to Della Terra Teas knowing they had allergens clearly listed for each tea. This made shopping quite simple. Della Terra also ships to a lot more countries than some tea companies.

The base in this tea is good, it supports all of the flavors without being lost behind them all. The tea has the perfect amount of sweetness. I also notice the slightest hint at vanilla in the tea, even though this is not on the list of ingredients. Perhaps it is how my taste buds interpret the blend, but I love it. The rose gives just this light, subtle hint at a floral note but I would never call this a floral tea. Everything works in perfect harmony here, its awesome!

Taster’s Review:

The aroma of this Strawberries and Cream Green Tea from Della Terra Teas is best described as Mmmmmmmmmmmmm. Both in the steeped and dry form the smell is nothing short of perfection. Not only the strawberry and the cream scents, but the tea leaves themselves smell amazing!

Now I already knew going in that Della Terra has some of the best flavored teas on the market. For me they are right up top with Butiki Teas, and a handful of other places. This tea, is just indulgent, lovely, delightful, and about another twenty or so adjectives all adding up to bliss!

To be honest, I really am not even focusing on this review right now, this cup is that good! I keep getting sidetracked by the cup, sitting back inhaling in the sweet creamy aromas, enjoying the aroma of the tea leaves caressing my senses with their delicate, but attention grabbing nature. If they made a perfume that smelled like this I wold wear it. People may say I am too old to wear a scent that smells like a carnival, but put me in a pink tutu and parade me around the ring, I am all in with this tea! It reminds me of the fair, or a circus, and all of the sticky sweet smells that go along with it from spun sugar cotton candy, to kids blowing giant bubble gum bubbles, or the smell of funnel cake filling the air. Yet, it is not really all that sweet at all! The flavor of this tea is nothing close to sticky sweet! Its so natural, so pleasing with the grassy buttery tones of the tea, that while I may be taken into this sweet intoxicating world in my imagination, I am not putting that junk into my body! What could be better!?

Sorry I must end my review here and really sit back and lavish in the rest of my cup.

Tisane Information:

Taster’s Review:

Mmm!  I love ginger snaps!  And this Ginger Snap Rooibos Blend tisane from Della Terra Teas … while not a spot-on tisane rendition of one of my favorite cookies, it offers an interesting and tasty interpretation of the goodness of a ginger snap.

The base for this tisane was well chosen, because the natural nutty notes of the South African rooibos melds well with the ginger notes and create a sort of cookie-like taste.  The almond further enhances this cookie-ish taste while offering a sweet dimension to the beverage.

When I first read the description of this tisane, and saw pineapple, papaya and mango in this blend, I was a little perplexed.  I mean … huh?  I have never actually attempted to bake ginger snaps, these fruits are not ingredients I would ever expect to see in a ginger snap recipe.  (For a very tempting ginger snap recipe, check out this one from one of my all-time favorite celebrity chefs from Food Network, Alton Brown.)

But even though the tropical fruits seem a little “misplaced” in this tisane, the juicy, sweet flavor of the mango, pineapple and papaya really seem to work with this cup.  I can’t say that these ingredients actually make the tisane taste more like the cookie … but, I can say that I do enjoy the role they play in the overall cup.  They add a sweetness and a richness to the cup, and in their own way, really enhance the flavor of this “ginger snap” like drink.

I really enjoyed this tisane.  It wasn’t overly spicy, and I’ve got to say that usually I expect my ginger snaps to have a little more of that zesty, snappy flavor than this cup provides … but, I like the way this tastes.  It has a mild yet delicious ginger flavor, and I think it’s a very interesting take on the ginger snap.  Not bad … not bad at all!
