Taster’s Review:

I’ve tried quite a few caramel flavored black teas, as well as some caramel flavored green teas and rooibos, but, I can’t recall having tried a caramel flavored Oolong until now.

And while it is quite different from the other caramel flavored teas that I’ve tried, I’m quite enjoying the differences.  The smooth, buttery flavor and texture of the Oolong work together quite nicely with the rich sweetness of the caramel flavor to create a cup of deliciousness.

Overall, I find this to be a lighter tasting caramel flavored tea, and a nice change of pace from some of the heavier caramel teas that I’ve tasted.  A pleasant, relaxing cuppa!

Hong Yu (Red Jade) Taiwanese Black Tea from Zi Chun Tea Co

Tea Type: Black Tea

Where To Buy: Zi Chun Tea Co

Product Description:

A high quality organic black tea – this unique tea was developed & refined by the Taiwan tea research station. It is a cross between an Assam strain from Burma & a local wild strain. A truly great tea.
A noticeable cinnamon aroma and carries a subtle, but pleasant mint flavor.

Tasters Review:

WOW!  Just…WOW!  This is SO amazing on SO many levels!  This is a mighty fine Black Tea, right here, folks!

Hong Yu (Red Jade) Taiwanese Black Tea from Zi Chun smells a little like tomato soup and/or tomato bread…I LOVE the aroma!  The taste is toasty, creamy, malty, a mellow black tea, meets a hint of cherry tomato type undertone but then changes up and evens out.

By the after taste I can find that mint note the description says lingers…it’s so amazingly different I can’t NOT like this one!  I would HIGHLY recommend this tea to ANYONE!

Tasters Review:

Chocolate Covered Cherries.

Need I say more?

I probably should considering this is a tea REVIEW site.  I should probably elaborate, huh?

The aroma of this one is out of this world!  Chocolate Covered Cherries to a TEA (pardon the pun.)

The Black Tea strength was comparable to a medium strength black.  The Dark Chocolate flavor was genius but not too much to handle…it blended very well with the other flavors!  The Cherry was NOT bitter or tart but juicy and really made you think you were consuming a chocolate covered cherry!   The Schiandra berry flavor was more noticeable as the tea cooled or if you were to have it iced.  And the creaminess chimed in on the aftertaste more than anything else.

This is a FAB Flavored Black Tea!  Tea-riffic!

Golden Tips Assam from Tao of Tea

Tea Type: Black Tea

Where To Buy: Tao of Tea

Product Description:

Native Name: Sunehri Assam Jaat
Origin: Upper Assam, Northeast India

Plucking Season: Mid Summer

Introduction: The Golden Tips Assam is made from a distinct Camellia Assamica plant varietal growing only at a handful of estates. The leaves are withered, bruised with a rolling machine, oxidized and then over roasted. In making the Golden tips, the oxidization is slightly longer than in the case of making darker Assams. The golden tips are precious for the tea gardens as they fetch a higher premium in the market.
Flavor Profile: Smooth textured, amber red liquor with apple and pear flavors. The high volume of essential oils in the Golden Tips Assam is evident immediately after the tea is served, as a thin layer of oil quickly coats the surface of the tea giving it a self-creaming appearance. These are beneficial oils that protect the body from carcinogens and give tea its anti-aging properties.

Tasters Review:

Golden Tips Assam is another GOODY from Tao of Tea!  It’s slightly roasted and slightly chewy but not like you would expect.  More importantly it’s very (and unexpectedly) creamy!

The description says hints of apple and peach flavor…at first I could relate to the peach hints but not really the apple…I thought it was more of a date type hint.  Regardless I really enjoyed this cuppa and would suggest to anyone who loves black teas!
