Pirate’s Pleasure Rum Raisin Black Tea/Tea Mistress

What could be better after a trip to the beach than a pirate themed tea? Pirate’s Pleasure is a blend of Ceylon black tea, rooibos, hibiscus, raisins, currants, cocoa nibs, rosehips, coconut, allspice, and natural flavors.

The black tea isn’t getting lost under the additions, and the overall flavor profile is warm and dark-fruity, not the bright “ping” of citrus or apple, but the deep satisfying notes of raisin, currant, and spices. I am not tasting the cocoa nibs specifically but they are no doubt adding the depth of flavor to the cup. The coconut is not in the forefront of this blend, but usually adds a bit of creaminess and so again, may be responsible for the impression of depth I am finding here.

Long after drinking, the warm spices persist and I know already that I will be making more of this today! Even with the fruit and spices giving it deep flavor, I do not find myself associating this tea with cool weather or fall and winter holidays as so often happens.

I tried it hot, both sweetened and unsweetened, and I think I preferred it lightly sweetened. It would make a fabulous iced tea, in my opinion!

Coconut Warrior from Wise Ape Tea Company. . . .

Wise Ape Tea company has some hella-cool branding.

Its logo is a three-eyed ape. The site says things like “Wise ape is more than just a tea; it’s a tribe of like-minded individuals who are focused on self-motivation and an altruistic attitude.” The pop up-ad asking you to subscribe to their newsletter says: “We welcome you to join our growing community of health hackers, zen warriors, and legendary tea drinkers. We require nothing but an open mind. Drink healthy and stay wise.”

I mean, like, HECK YES. Was that MADE FOR ME, or what?

When I spotted the samples the SororiTea Sisters received on Instagram , I begged for a few. (This is also a plug for our Instagram. We have one! Follow us!)

Here’s my first sample. . .

Coconut Warrior is a perfectly-balanced mix of sweet (coconut) and a little bit spicy (tumeric/bark). The flavor is a bit like a chai — one that doesn’t have that runaway spiciness that I find exhausting. It helps that the base is assam, not darjeeling, which is a bit spicier by its very nature. Assam is a good “straight man” companion to hold up a flavored black tea.

It’s good, y’all.

I can’t really tell you if it’s going to reduce your inflammation, “repair,” or “regenerate.” But it WILL “revitalize.” This sweet & lightly spicy little number will put a little pep in your step. It might even open your third eye to exciting new possibilities of the day.

Here’s the scoop!

Taster’s Review:

With a new like this one, you can’t help but have high expectations.  I adore graham crackers and the flavor they yield.  I recently devoured a box of Star Wars Graham crackers so I’ve got a taste for them right now.

I’m not sure where this tea came from, but I was excited to try it.  I’ve heard good things about teas from Herbal Infusions and with a tea that is a mix of coconut and graham crackers. . . what could be better?

Brewed this up in my little tea pot with the help of my Breville One Touch to prep the water to the correct temp.

Poured the brew into my tea cup and sat down to enjoy some relax time.  First sip in and your taste buds are enveloped with this fabulous coconut flavor.  Like intense coconut fresh flavor.  The secondary flavors hit you with a gentle and subtle manner.  A lovely brown sugar like flavor.

This tea is a delicious black flavored tea for those who enjoy coconut flavors.  I would recommend added two scoops instead of just one.  With one, the coconut flavors were strong but that was about it.  With two I think the other flavors would start to really come thru and pop.

First experience with this company and I’m quite happy!
