Taster’s Review:
I’m not always crazy about white chocolate, and if given a choice, I’d choose dark chocolate or milk chocolate over white chocolate every time. However, I did think that this flavor would offer some good “blending” options, and that’s why I ultimately decided to order this White Chocolate Flavored Matcha from Red Leaf Tea.
Since I’ve got quite a few Matcha selections in my tea stash, I figured the flavor of white chocolate would meld nicely with a lot of the fruit flavored matcha teas that I have … and it would also make a very nice addition to my fruit smoothies!
But you know what? It’s actually quite nice on it’s own too. For the purposes of this review, I prepared a latte, using a 1:1 ratio of hot water and steamed milk, and then using my hand-held frother, I whisked the sifted, powdered green tea into the water and milk combination. The result is a tasty bowl of Matcha Latte that disappeared in no time flat! (By the way, Red Leaf Tea pre-sifts their Matcha for you when you order it! One less step when you prepare the Matcha – which is kind of nice if you’re adding the powdered green tea directly to a water bottle for Matcha on the go!)
The white chocolate flavor is a good combination with the flavor of this Classic Grade Matcha, which has a natural “chocolate-y” undertone to it – it seems to bring out those chocolate notes. I like that I’m not tasting an “artificial” or chemical note to this Matcha. As I’ve mentioned in some of the other flavored Matcha reviews that I’ve written for Red Leaf Tea, sometimes there is a chemical-y taste that comes with the flavored Matcha. Some of the flavors work better than others. The white chocolate flavor works very well!
The Matcha doesn’t taste remarkably “vegetative” – it tastes sweet and creamy. There are hints of grassy notes to this. There are also buttery notes, and a very tasty white chocolate note that seems to be enhanced with the natural chocolate tones of the Matcha. I chose the distinctive level of flavoring for this blend, and it provides a nice taste.
This is one that I’m going to really enjoy experimenting with and seeing what kinds of flavor combinations I can come up with! And it tastes amazing in smoothies!

Taster’s Review:
This Rooibos Chocolate Tisane from Forsman Tea Company is the third and final tea from my May Tea Tasting Box from Amoda Tea. (Although I will be reviewing the caramels that we received in that box soon!) I have to say that I’m thrilled with the fact that Amoda Tea seems to have listened to me when I requested fewer tisanes and more tea in their boxes. I am not completely opposed to tasting tisanes … but when two or all three teas in the box are tisanes, I feel a little let down.
Fortunately, for the month of May, we got two amazing teas and just one tisane … and hey, the tisane is a CHOCOLATE tisane … and then we got caramels too! Woo hoo! I have no complaints about the May box! (And now am eagerly anticipating what might be in June’s box!)
And this is one very good chocolate rooibos tisane! The chocolate is a rich, flavorful, STRONGLY flavored chocolate! That’s what this chocoholic likes!
The rooibos are distinguishable in the cup, but, the naturally sweet, nutty flavor of the rooibos melds quite nicely with the chocolate-y tones. I even taste a hint of caramel as the description mentions … which is something I rarely ever take note of when I drink rooibos blends. The caramel-y note is certainly welcome here though!
This is one of the better chocolate rooibos blends I’ve come across … if you’re a chocolate lover like I am, you should try it!
Bravo, Amoda Tea! May has been my favorite month from you thus far!

Taster’s Review:
I am not a big fan of chocolate flavor in teas but The Malt Shop from Della Terra Teas is a good blend! I love straight teas – unadulterated teas – that taste like chocolate, love them actually, but most blends that add chocolate flavor are a miss for me. This tea is an exception though! The chocolate flavor in this tea is really delicious and it absolutely has a malt flavor, you will think you are having a chocolate malt from an old fashioned ice cream parlor!
This is also a fun tea to play around with, you can add some sweetener if you want although I don’t find it necessary, but I have had it with cream and it is so yummy! Also I have had this iced, made into a slushie with vanilla ice cream, SO GOOD, as well as iced with creamer. Every way I try it is delicious! A versatile and yummy treat!
Really though I did all of that for fun, each time quite happy with the outcome, but this tea stands all on its own as a really decedent delight! No need to go to all the hassle and yes it is in fact just as delicious hot, even though we think of cold when considering a malt right?
This tea could not be truer to its namesake. If you love chocolate malts then grab some of this and enjoy! Its like malted chocolate balls. Also the tea has a thick mouthfeel which adds to the taste of a real chocolate malt! This could make dieting really easy. I think kids would love this tea as well as adults.

Taster’s Review:
I have to be honest, I wasn’t too sure about this Berry Chocolate Tisane from Kally Tea after the first couple of sips. Mostly, I was tasting the rooibos and honeybush, and I found myself wondering, where is the berry? Where is the chocolate?
But after the third sip, the berry flavor really emerged! Now, I taste more berry than honeybush or rooibos. It is a lovely berry note too, authentic, it doesn’t taste like artificial berries. It tastes sweet, it tastes tart … it tastes like raspberries and strawberries!
I’ve often said that I like it when tea companies combine rooibos and honeybush together, because I find that these two herbs really complement each other nicely. The honey-esque tones of the honeybush help round out that sometimes funky sweetness from the rooibos, creating a very enjoyable sweet note that requires no additional sweetener. Delightfully nutty, the combination of honeybush and rooibos melds nicely with the berry flavors.
This is definitely more berry than chocolate, and while the chocoholic in me would rather it be the other way around, I am still finding the berry notes in this tisane to be very rewarding. The chocolate takes a little while to sort of develop, it doesn’t really hit the palate until about the third sip, and then it is rather delicate. By mid-cup, there is more chocolate-y flavor, but, it is still not as strong as the berry flavor.
The berry notes are sweet and tart. The tartness lingers in the aftertaste, but it isn’t a pucker-y kind of tart … more like that tingly sensation on the tip of the tongue – as if I had just eaten a fresh berry. The chocolate notes lend a sort of creaminess to the cup, and together with the bright berry flavor… it’s really quite yummy!
This tisane tastes good hot or iced, I am actually liking this better as an iced drink, but that could also be because we’re experiencing some rather warm weather lately and the cold beverage is just so refreshing to sip. It’s nice and comforting when served hot late at night … like a decadent late-night treat, but one that won’t keep you up because it’s naturally caffeine free.

Taster’s Review:
YUM! To be honest, I wasn’t really … looking that forward to trying this Red Velvet Cake Mate from 52Teas. And I love chocolate!
Here’s the thing … in addition to being a chocoholic and a tea addict, I have a thing for cupcakes. I go nuts over cupcakes. I see a cupcake bakery and I beg my husband to stop just so I can see what flavors they have … and for me, the more outrageous the flavor, the better. (Kind of that way with tea flavors too) I don’t get so excited over cake … oh sure, I won’t turn my nose up at cake … but a cupcake? I love it. I turn into a kid when it comes to cupcakes.
The problem: it seems that every cupcake bakery has a red velvet offering. It’s become the “Earl Grey” of the cupcake world … everyone has one. Not that I knock Earl Grey, I love it as you’re probably aware! And I actually like red velvet cake (and cupcakes) … but, if given a choice between red velvet cake and a chocolate cake … I’d choose chocolate because red velvet seems to me to be like … a lighter version of chocolate. That is, it’s like a chocolate cupcake, but with less chocolate. And if you’ve read my articles for very long, you know that I am a strong supporter of the more chocolate = better concept. And if more chocolate = better, then less chocolate = worse. Simple logic.
So, I guess I was thinking … OK, so this is going to be a “light” chocolate Yerba Maté and I’m going to have to write my article complaining about a lack of chocolate. There are few things that make me more disappointed in a chocolate tea than a lack of chocolate.
Fortunately, Frank of 52Teas apparently does not subscribe to this idea that red velvet cake is a lighter version of chocolate cake, because this is nice and chocolate-y. (However, more chocolate WOULD be better … because more chocolate = better.) And I can taste the tangy cream cheese frosting note. It is sweet and delicious, and I love the roasted flavor of the Yerba Maté … I love that it doesn’t have that strong vegetative note, that the roasted flavor accentuates the earthy tones which complements the chocolate notes very nicely. And then the overtone of creamy, tangy frosting just … it’s the icing on the cake! (haha, I made a punny! Oh gawd I’m a nerd. Please don’t tell my husband I admitted that.)
This is totally yummy. It is rich, chocolate-y, toasty, and tangy! Absolutely scrumptious. Unfortunately, it is also sold out. So, if you want some, you should let Frank know! Contact him via this contact form or, you could tweet him, or visit his facebook page. Please tell him you heard about this tea from me!
