First impression – or should I say QUESTION – when I took my first sniff of the dry Savo Tea from Pacific Tea was…why does this smell like coconut? There is a very simple and reasonable explanation for this. It’s because it contains Coconut Husks and Coconut. When I first looked at it I saw the husks but didn’t realize the husks were coconut husks. I didn’t really notice actual coconut either. But once I smelled the wonderful aroma it CLICKED.
Savo Tea from Pacific Tea not only contains coconut and coconut husks it also contains carob and vanilla. The carob is definitely noticeable and contribute to the natural chocolaty taste. The flavor of this tea is that of chocolate, coconut, and vanilla which completely makes sense because those are the ingredients found in this loose leaf. It’s bold, it’s rich, and its black tea base is smooth and of medium strength.
Savo Tea from Pacific Tea was named for the Solomon’s Savo Island and its earthy, bold and rich volcanic scenery which seems to match the flavor of this tea in many ways. I felt like I was taking a journey while sipping on this tea and found in very satisfying and tasty.

Mayan Chocolate Chai from 52Teas
So today was the first day I broke out my leather jacket. I don’t get cold so that means this morning’s weather has finally reflected the season. Cold weather means certain flavors take center stage. Of course pumpkin spice is one but among tea drinkers, the spices of a nice chai really scream Fall. And what’s the best way to have a chai? As a latte, of course.
Now chai is something hard to get right because it is a mix of various spices. Different people like more of one spice and less of another so a chai that pleases everyone is hard to find. For instance, I am not a cardamom lover so cardamom pods in my tea makes me a little apprehensive. This tea was no exception. However, though I am getting a fair amount of cardamom flavor here, it isn’t taking over. Would I like a little less cardamom? Yes, but that’s my personal preference.
The surprise to me in this cup is the actual spice kick you get when drinking it. My tea is diluted among the milk of the latte and yet I am still getting some of that cayenne hitting me, which is rather impressive since 9 times out of 10, I don’t taste the hot spice in plain teas, let alone a latte.
Right there with the cayenne is a dark cocoa note. It reminds me of the chocolate tasting party we had for my sister’s bachelorette party in which melted dark chocolate was mixed with a bunch of different flavors and we had to guess what each chocolate cup was mixed with. The cayenne and dark chocolate was the only one we could actually pick out since its flavor is so distinctive. 52 Tea’s captures that nicely. With that said, I probably wouldn’t say no to a little more of that chocolate note.
The other flavors such as the cinnamon and ginger add to the overall tea. Rather than standing out on their own, they are acting in a way that puts emphasis on the other flavors. The ginger, for example, helps the cayenne give that spicy kick to the back of the throat.
This was a surprise for me since I don’t usually love chocolate in teas or chais and yet I found this to be quite enjoyable. With this tea, you get what you are being promised: a Mayan Chocolate Chai.

Chocolate Cherry Latte Oolong from A Quarter To Tea
I must confess: when I first received this, my heart broke into itty-bitty pieces. Oh no! Cherry! AAAAAH!
I usually hate cherry. It tends to remind me of cough medicine. What if I hated it? How would I show my face at Tea Club? How could they have sent me my Kryptonite?
Fortunately, yay, this tea uses ACTUAL cherries. It’s not that sugar-chemical stuff. It’s the real deal. That — plus the yumminess of the chocolate (my favorite) and the bright vegetal note of the oolong — made a mighty brew. It’s so sweet and rich.
I am wicked-hype because this tea combines two things: 1) Broken my cherry hate and 2) Been the second oolong I’ve liked
This tea feels like the start of something new.
Maybe I’m not allergic to Kryptonite after all.

Chocolate Mint Black Tea from 3 Teas smells amazing! Just what you think it would smell like…chocolate, mint, and black tea. The flavor is incredible! #MusicAndTeaMonday: Laoshan Chocolate Genmaicha
It’s #MusicAndTeaMonday and I hope you will join us by posting on your favorite social media! #MusicAndTeaMonday
Today’s #MusicAndTeaMonday pairing is: Laoshan Chocolate Genmaicha from Liquid Proust Teas with song choice of Have Faith In Me by A Day To Remember.
Liquid Proust Teas tend to have unique and inspiring blends that are quickly becoming a favourite of mine. Generally speaking I’m not a flavoured tea fan but if it’s blended well it can be heavenly. From the small collection of LP teas that I have I chose Laoshan Chocolate Genmaicha as it’s sweet, rich and nutty which pairs with my feelings for my chosen song and band. I am a music fan and attend festivals and concerts when I can, A Day To Remember have been a favourite of mine for a few years; and not just because I swoon over the singer.
With the lingering sweetness and rich quality of the Laoshan Chocolate Genmaicha it mimics the lyrics:
“I said I’d never let you go, and I never did
I said I’d never let you fall and I always meant it
If you didn’t have this chance then I never did
You’ll always find me right there, again”
Sipping the tea whilst listening (and looking) at such beauty creates a warmth inside that feels like a hug. The impact of the tea sips making me want more each time until I’m left with a chocolate and dry, nut aftertaste and an empty mug. A sigh follows before I’m back with reality yet I still feel that when Jeremy McKinnon says he will always be there I believe him and that leads to a smile.
I hope you enjoy my #MusicAndTeaMonday pairing!
