Chai Latte Milk Chocolate Bar from Chocolats Favoris. . . .

Just outside of Toronto is a chocolate shop called Chocolats Favoris. With a name like that, you know it has French origins and that’s because it actually comes from Quebec. They are a chocolate shop through and through and though they offer everything from chocolate bars to truffles to fondue cans, they are actually known for their chocolate dipped ice cream cones, which are ah. may. zing! So, having indulged in their chocolate dipped ice cream cones a few times and loving them, I knew I wanted some of their awesome chocolate to take home. I picked out a few and this Chai Latte bar certainly caught my eye.

This is a milk chocolate bar made with black tea, spices, and natural flavor. They do not specify which spices exactly in the ingredients list but some flavors clearly shine through the creamy milk chocolate base. Cinnamon blends with the chocolate beautifully to give more flavor without creating competition. The ginger, on the other hand, stands out in each bite. Cardamom coats the tongue slowly but surely the more you eat which makes for a fuller chai flavor while clove pops up every now and again. All the while, the black tea provides a nice texture variant by giving a bit of crunch to the otherwise smooth bar.

This is one flavorful chocolate bar. Like everything else offered at Chocolats Favoris, the chocolate is sweet but delicious. The spices create a welcome contrast to the base and as a whole, this treat is certainly reminiscent of its namesake. If you’re looking for a tea treat to satisfy your sweet tooth, look no further than this Chai Latte milk chocolate bar.

Coconut Cream Pie Chocolate Bar from DAVIDs Tea. . .

Coconut Cream Pie is an oolong tea by DAVIDsTEA made with white chocolate, coconut, toasted coconut, and flavoring. More than that, it is now a milk chocolate-infused chocolate bar offered by DAVIDsTEA.

was not particularly fond of the tea itself but this makes for a nice chocolate bar. Unlike some of the other DAVIDsTEA chocolates, this one does not have hard pieces of tea. Instead, this is filled with crunchy bits of shredded coconut which makes for an interesting textural contrast to the creamy milk chocolate.

The coconut is toasty and this tastes similar to a bounty bar, with crunchier pieces of coconut. As a fan of bounty bars, I enjoy this tea well enough. If you can find it on sale and want a snack, it is worth a try, however, at the end of the day, I personally prefer the chewier consistency of bounty bars and given the cost of this is significantly more than other chocolates, it is not particularly worth it in my opinion.

Cardamom French Toast Tea-Infused Milk Chocolate Bar from DAVIDs Tea. . . .

I believe it was about a year ago that DAVIDsTEA introduced tea-infused chocolate to their store selection. Since then I have tried a few different varieties but have found them to be rather hit or miss. Plus, with the hefty price tag they boast of about $6 per chocolate bar, I find they are often not worth what I am paying.

The thing is in order to make their bars unique and different from the countless chocolate offerings in their world, DAVIDsTEA has put the actual loose leaf tea into the chocolate. This sometimes works as it not only provides flavor but also gives the chocolate a fun crunch. And sometimes it doesn’t work because the pieces of tea are a little too big and a little too hard and leave me a little fearful that the crunch will be more of a crack.

Well, the other day I was out for dinner with my sister and came across a DAVIDsTEA I had never been in before. Since there were some newly released teas I decided to go in and grab a few samples. While there I realized they still had quite a bit of their holiday offerings on sale, including their mini chocolate bars. At $2 a piece, I figured the price was right and grabbed a couple to try – this and the Blueberry Muffin tea-infused white chocolate bar. The Blueberry Muffin tea was one of those teeth-cracking bars that mostly tasted of white chocolate. This bar is significantly better.

The milk chocolate is rich and creamy which highlights the silky custard-like texture you get with good french toast. The tea imparts a great deal of that eggy flavor that is standard in the breakfast classic and one of the components I enjoyed the most when it came to this tea blend. There is also a nice dash of cinnamon to really round things out and help conjure up the illusion of the delectable breakfast treat that inspires the tea and this chocolate. I will say the chocolate drowns out the cardamom that was so prominent in the actual tea. Personally, I don’t mind this since I am not a lover of cardamom but I feel it is worth mentioning for those who might be bothered by its lacking.

All in all, this is one of the better DAVIDsTEA chocolate bars I have tried. Unlike other bars, the tea is distinctive in flavor while not being too present in the texture. In the past, some of the bars have simply tasted like other chocolates you could find in stores for much cheaper than they were being sold at DAVIDs. This bar is unique and definitely worth the price tag as it highlights the best parts of the tea that inspires it.
