I love black teas. I love breakfast teas. I love Chai. Therefore I am not surprised that I was eager to try Bombay Breakfast from The Jasmine Pearl Tea Company.
It is said that Bombay Breakfast is ‘surprisingly popular’ among their customers. With flavor and quality like this I don’t think it’s such a surprise, really. I think it deserves the praise. It’s gently malty, a little spicy, and a tad floral. I don’t think it’s as spicy or as intense as some chais I have had but its flavor is just dandy. .
The Jasmine Pearl Tea Company says this is an excellent morning tea and I completely agree. I start each and every day with at least 1 (or 5) black based teas so I am always looking for more to put into rotation. They also suggest Bombay Breakfast to accompany almost any dessert. I have yet to put that to the test but I just might have to soon!
The aroma and the taste of Bombay Breakfast from The Jasmine Pearl Tea Company is rich, full, satisfying, tasty, and hardy. It infuses to a golden-orange-brown. A follow-up infusion with a longer steep time reveals a heavier cardamom and ginger flavor and subtle rose.
Bombay Breakfast from The Jasmine Pearl Tea Company is a great way to start the day – and if you are pairing it with dessert – a great way to end your day, too!

Rose Chai from Tea Dude
I’ve had Rose Chai before from a few different companies. Some have been extremely floral because of the rose and others being extremely chai because of the spices. Rose Chai from Tea Dude went about this offering in a different way
Tea Dude’s Rose Chai has – what I would consider – mellower spicy chai flavors and more delicate rose flavors, too! Both the chai and the rose are a bit more muted than other chais or rose chais that I have had in the past. If you are looking for an enjoyable cuppa without the LOUD flavors this might be more your speed compared to the ones that tend to go the ‘spicier the better.’
One thing I did want to point out is that Tea Dude included Rosehips in his Rose Chai. Most other Rose Chais I have tried just contain rose petals not BOTH Rose Petals AND Rosehips. This is certainly a PLUS in my book! Rosehips are the actual fruit from the rose tree and are high in Vitamin C. I found the Rosehips in this Rose Chai to be barely noticeable in terms of flavor but I am completely ok with that because I don’t think I would want a fruity type taste in this cuppa.
Rose Chai from Tea Dude was a decent Rose Chai, indeed!

Firebird Chai from Wendigo Tea Co
I regret to inform you, darling Tea-ple, that there is nothing I could possibly say about this tea that has not been said better on the tea’s own description.
Said information implores you to “brace yourself” for “an imposing beast” that “leaves scorched remnants of other Chai teas far below ferocious wings.”
Have I just been schooled?
Does Wendigo keep its own Starling! on staff? An even more super Super Starling! ?
The tea’s description also touts the tea as a “unique masterpiece” that requires no additional flavoring because its base is not cheap, icky tea like other chais. You are encouraged to “enjoy your ride.”
This tea DOES have a flowery sweetness that I can’t seem to explain based on the ingredients. I think it’s a note on the black tea, which is superior to a LOT of black teas I’ve had. It really does require no milk or honey to avoid being bitter or overwhelming.
Despite the floral notes, I dare say that this FireBird has MELTED MY FACE OFF, Raiders of the Lost Ark style.
Climb on, kids.

#FanaticFriday: Lapsang Chai from Bluebird Tea Co.
We at SororiTea Sisters love all things fall! So today we are fanatic about fall!!
I’m not sure why I jumped into a Chai phase abruptly – perhaps it’s because Fall is finally here – whatever the reasoning I recently busted open a bag of Lapsang Chai from Bluebird Tea Co.
I’m always interested in teas that have that ‘little extra something’ so when I saw that Lapsang Chai from Bluebird Tea Co contained India Assam Tea, Lapsang Souchong Black Tea, and Chai Spice I knew I had to try it! Indian Black Assam AND Lapsang Souchong? Yes, please!
Dry – I could smell the Lapsang right away and then the chai spices. Wet – I could smell less of both but they seemed more even and equal to each other after infusing. Lapsang Chai from Bluebird Tea Co brews to a dark brown – just as I assumed it would.
Lapsang Chai from Bluebird Tea Co is a really nice cuppa! It’s spicy but not overly-so. It oddly has a smoothness it to that I wasn’t expecting but found comforting along side the spices. Pine, smoke, ginger, and clove join hands with the blended black tea base. I really like Bluebird’s twist on this chai! VERY Well Done!

Tupelo Honey Chai from Tupelo Honey Tea
One of my coworkers (a true blessed angel upon this earth) brought in doughnuts this morning, so I decided I’d round out the experience with a Brand New Tea! Heck yes. Good day.
Today’s breakfast pastry accompaniment comes from Tupelo Honey Teas. This company is in the same area as my in-laws — a little village you might have heard of — Pittsburgh, PA. They’ve got a football team. I hear it’s pretty good.
You’d think that football people and tea people are different, but apparently not, because Tupelo has a Yinzer Line that includes a Steelers tea . I might have to pick some of this up for my mother-in-law.
The tea I’m specifically trying today is the Honey Chai.
This one’s calibrated to be less aggressive than normal chai, so it can be steeped without the aid of milk. I have, accordingly, not added any milk.
Conclusion: it’s great! I usually think chai tries too hard, but this one’s definitely a milder version, as promised. It’s sweet and tasty without grabbing the back of my throat and throttling it. It tastes like a gingerbread cookie! I could definitely see this one making its way into my regular rotation.
Yinz will probably like it, too. You’ll wave your Terrible Towels in happiness.
