Golden Monkey from The Meaning of Tea

Ingredients: organic China black tea

Organic Status: certified USDA organic

Taster’s Review:

This is an incredibly beautiful tea.  The leaves are very much like the picture above portrays:  gorgeous and golden!  The liquor is a deep amber color with a delicately sweet aroma that hints of notes of fruit and flower.

This is a real treat to sip!  It has a strong fruit note to it – much more distinct a fruit taste than I think I’ve ever experienced from an “unflavored” black tea.  It has bright citrus tones that are both sweet and slightly tangy.

The tea is brisk but not quite as bold as some Yunnan teas I’ve tasted in the past.  Instead, this tea is smooth and sweet with malty undertones.  It starts out with a sweet note that develops into a citrus-like flavor as the sip washes over the palate.  There are brief hints of tangy and sour notes as the sip progresses.  It ends with some dry astringency.  The finish is sweet with a light aftertaste.

I absolutely LOVE this tea.  If you’ve been looking for a great Golden Monkey – look no further!  This one fills the bill!

Green Tea, Japanese Sencha from Supple Skin Boutique

Tea Information:

Leaf Type:  Green

Where to Buy:  Supple Skin Boutique

Product Description:

Sencha green tea is one of the most popular teas in Japan and know for high antioxidant content. Sencha is said to have more antioxidants than other greens teas that is why we use this for our mixtures.

Taster’s Review:

This is an excellent Japanese Sencha.

Overall, this cup is impressive in its mild flavor.  It doesn’t try to overwhelm me with its grassy tones.  The grassy flavor is soft and mellow.  It is lightly sweet.  There is a background note of floral tones that remind me of the air on a breezy day in a flowery field.  A pure and simple tea.

There is a buttery note to this tea that develops as I continue to sip it.  It was barely there when I first started sipping this cup, and now that I am nearly finished, that creamy buttery taste has developed nicely.  There is also a light astringency at the tail of the sip that cleanses the palate.  The aftertaste is sweet and lightly vegetal although it does not linger long.

This is my first tea tasting from Supple Skin Boutique, and I’m very impressed with the quality of this tea.  It is delicious and I like that it is certified organic.  To be truthful, I do not drink tea because it is good for me or because it offers healthful benefits to my skin.  I drink it because I like the way it tastes – and this one tastes great.  That being said, it is nice to know that tea is good for me and helps maintain skin health!  It’s like having my cake and eating it too – but without all the guilt and calories!

Sencha Tea from Frontier Co-Op

Tea Information:

Leaf Type:  Green

Where to Buy:  Frontier Co-Op

Product Description:

Brothy, vegetal, fresh and bright, this quintessential Japanese green tea can be enjoyed all day long. It is also an excellent tea to serve guests.

Taster’s Review:

I like Frontier Co-Op.  I can always find their products at my local Whole Foods Market, and I can always count on them to provide good tasting, organic teas at decent prices.

This Japanese Sencha is a fine example.  The flavor is sweet and smooth.  It has a pleasant vegetative taste that doesn’t come off as too grassy.  It has a very nice, light flavor that makes for the perfect tea to enjoy with meals.  I especially like it when eating something spicy because the soft mouthfeel coats the palate lightly and offers some relief from the heat!

This Sencha may not be as fancy as some of the flavored teas that I’ve reviewed, but it is delicious and I really like that it is certified organic.  It tastes great hot or iced.  I especially like it with iced with a thin slice of lemon or a sprig of mint – it’s very refreshing!
