Leaf Type: Green (Matcha)
Where to Buy: Camellia Sinensis
Product Description:
This Matcha has an aroma of berries and dark chocolate. On the palate, you’ll be seduced by the rich and full texture, and the surprising notes of Jerusalem artichokes.
Taster’s Review:
This is such a beautiful Matcha. The color of the powder is so bright green and it produces a gorgeous jade colored liquid that is a bit of heaven in a chawan!
I can detect the notes of berry and chocolate in the aroma, which I find so intriguing. I don’t think I’ve ever experienced an unflavored Matcha with this sort of fragrance. It’s captivating.
The flavor and texture of this tea is very smooth. It coats the palate with its sweet, vegetative flavor. A hint of bitter reveals itself just before the end of the sip. This savory bitterness seems to arrive just in time to cut through the sweetness and provide a little dimension.
I must agree with the above product description: this Matcha does have an artichoke flavor. It is a very broth-y, satisfying Matcha. This is one of the best Matcha teas I’ve tasted, and I would recommend it to all the Matcha fans out there. This is superb!

Tasters Review:
I don’t think I have used the phrase “Crazy Good” yet on SororiTEA Sisters as a description so today will be that day and this tea will be the one that busts-out that funky-phrase…because…well, it’s just THAT good!
Seriously…This IS a crazy good oolong!
This is so different from any oolong I have tried! AND I LOVE OOLONG!
First…the aroma is mild but floral. The color is a very light yellow. The taste is smooth, sweet, juicy, and very fresh! I can taste a sugary caramel type taste but also a vanilla type taste. There is a subtle hint of something else which I assume is the hazelnut hint they mention in the description…but I want to stress it isn’t a loud hazelnut and all flavors that I stated are on the sugary-sweet side but naturally-speaking!
This is truly unique and FAB! Give it a try! You won’t regret it!

Tasters Review:
Matcha is fun to experiment with and Matcha Sendo from Camellia Sinensis is no exception!
I tried a 2nd test right after the first attempt because I was missing the dark chocolate aroma the first time around.
I used 3 tsp for the first cup and it was in a standard size mug. I could pick up on the berry notes in the aroma tho.
As for the taste…it’s mellow but marvelous! I could taste the artichoke comparison mentioned in the product description but I was picking up on fruit like tones too! I really like this! REALLY like this!
For my 2nd attempt I used 5tsp of matcha powder.
The dark chocolate aroma isn’t loud but it is there. Oddly…if I try and smell it with my nose right up to the mug I can’t really pick it out but if you take a step back I can smell it.
As for the taste with this much powder it is very vegetal and grassy. Still pretty yummy but I like the fruity notes I tasted in the first attempt better so I think I will stick with the 3 tsp.
Regardless from one attempt to another I stand firm in giving this Matcha Sendo middle 90’s rating! It’s really Marvelous!
Darjeeling Avongrove from Camellia Sinensis
Where To Buy:
Camellia Sinensis
Product Description:
This white tea is very unusual combination of Darjeeling terroir, pure assamica tea, and the artisanal expertise of Avongrove’s Mr.Subba. Large silken buds give a relatively dark infusion and liquor due to the assamica’s chemistry. Rich and creamy in the cup with a smooth, full attack of cocoa butter and hazelnut notes that linger into a long pleasant aftertaste.
Tasters Review:
I’m just going to say…right off the bat…I LOVE THIS WHITE TEA!
I don’t think you understand…I love it! I mean I REALLY LOVE IT!
Darjeeling Avongrove from Camellia Sinensis has amazing cocoa notes after infusing. It really came alive once I added the pipping hot water! The natural aroma is very powerful and truly crave-worthy!
The taste is delicious! It has cocoa and hazelnut hints but the white tea itself is top quality and smooth, silky, creamy, and a true delight!
This white tea really has me craving more! I just might declare this one of my favorite white teas of all-time!
Let’s just say it had me at HELLO.
Sencha Tsukigase from Camellia Sinensis
Leaf Type: Green
Where to Buy: Camellia Sinensis
Product Description:
This is the most rustic tasting Sencha in our catalogue and it comes from Mister Iwata, of the Nara region, who is a small-scale organic producer who does everything himself, from cultivation to final transformation. He picked the leaves in early spring, choosing to avoid the harsh selection process that Sencha teas usually go through. The result is a visually irregular tea of surprising complexity: mild, bright, and thirst-quenching. As for the aromatics, there are vegetal (lamb’s lettuce and spinach), sweet (wheatgrass) and oily (nuts and cashews) notes with a lovely lingering floral (lily) finish.
Taster’s Review:
This is a most intriguing Sencha, unlike any other that I’ve tried (at least that I can recall!)
First of all, it requires a longer steeping time than with typical Japanese Sencha teas (which are usually somewhere in between 30 seconds and one and a half minutes) to achieve full flavor (this one requires a minimum of three minutes, and my most recent infusion I steeped for four minutes). The first time I attempted to steep it, I steeped it for a minute and a half, and it tasted a bit like hot water with very little green tea flavor. So, do yourself a favor and steep this one a little longer than you might with another Japanese Sencha – your diligence will be rewarded!
Because the flavor is very pleasant. It has a very pleasant vegetative essence – one of the most pleasant I’ve ever encountered! It has a mild buttery taste with a flavor that is somewhere between crisp butter lettuce and steamed spinach. It is a light-bodied tea with a vibrant, refreshing flavor. Just like the product description suggests, I even get a slight bittersweet wheatgrass taste from this – but it is ever so slight – and a floral finish that charms the palate.
There is an invigorating astringency to this tea that I’d categorize as medium. The astringency isn’t drying though, it comes off as more citrus-y tart to me than drying or cleansing. This is a green tea that would take very nicely to an addition of thinly sliced citrus fruit, if you happen to have some on hand!
I really enjoyed this truly different Sencha. If you enjoy Japanese Sencha teas, this is one I’d recommend for a little variety – it is wonderful!
