Tasters Review:Lovers Leap Estate Indigo Black Tea from Eden Grove is a very strong black tea in a bag!  I have to say I have been quite impressed with the bagged teas from Edens Grove purely because of their strength!  Generally speaking…I’m a fan of Lovers Lane Black Teas, too!  As for this one from Edens Grove…it’s strong and bold…a nice eye opener…perfect for the rough mornings or a pick-me-up in the afternoon.

I can’t help but think of when I was a teenager…a friend of mine lived on a road called Lovers Lane.  I remember going over there to camp and we used to drink tea in the mornings – in a thermos – when it was still dewy and damp out.  I highly doubt it was “Lovers Leap” but for some reason every time I drink Lovers Leap now I think of the morning after camping and drinking tea by the fading campfire on Lovers Lane.

Candy Cane Green Tea from English Tea Shop

Tea Description:

Candy Cane: Green tea, peppermint leaves, orange peels, cinnamon pieces, chicory, strawberry leaves and vanilla pods with mint, vanilla and coconut flavours.

Taster’s Review:

This Candy Cane Green Tea from English Tea Shop is another tea from the holiday package that I received from a friend this past Christmas.  The dry aroma smells like a candy cane … but there is also an artificial sort of smell to the dry leaf too.  It’s a little off-putting, but I’m hoping that it won’t affect the flavor of the brewed tea.

Yeah, I can still taste a bit of that artificial-ness, but, while it did smell a bit off, it doesn’t taste horrible.  On the contrary, this is actually tasty.  The flavors of candy cane are there:  mint and vanilla.

I taste hints of orange and cinnamon too, and they lend a holiday kind of warmth to the cup.  I like that while I can taste these flavors, they don’t interrupt the candy cane notes that I’m tasting, rather, they seem to accentuate the candy cane flavors.

And then there is the chicory and coconut which I think is what I was smelling and tasting that is so odd.  Maybe not so much an artificial scent but it’s just weird that I was smelling (and now tasting) coconut and chicory in there, you know?  It’s just … strange.  It doesn’t taste bad, just a bit unusual and a little out there, you know?

The green tea seems a little lost in this blend, and I think I’m finding myself wishing I was tasting a little less of these other flavors and more of the green tea with mint and vanilla to give it a more candy cane-ish sort of taste.

Overall, it’s not a bad candy cane tribute, and I’d drink it again if it were offered to me.  It’s sweet, minty and creamy, just like I’d expect from a candy cane and I like that.  But there are some other flavors in there that make this tea sort of stray from what it would seem should be its original intent, which is to be a candy cane tea.  The result of which makes this an average tasting candy cane tea.  Not great, but not bad either.

Tasters Review:

Inverness Estate Essence of Bergamot from Eden Grove was one of the teas I received last week and the presentation of the gift pack was really neat!  It was mostly black but had bright colors on the packaging and the ribbon!  There are offered in 12 count and 24 count packs available.

Upon opening the triangle packaging on this specific bagged tea I could smell and see the ingredients well.  I was impressed by the size of the Lemon Peel.  The overall flavor was potent…a nice strong black tea with highlights of Bergamot and Lemon Peel.

I enjoyed a cup of this hot and another cup iced – both were strong and tasty.  This was a very solid bagged tea.  Excellent first choice from the set they sent my way!  The more I reflect on the design of the packaging the more the hot pinks, greens, yellows, and blues remind me of florescent 80’s colors and/or highlighters!  I really like them!

A terrific tea experience!

Taster’s Review:

I received this product – a tea bag of this Tomato Basil Green Tea Infused Sipping Broth from Millie’s Savory Teas – in my February Love with Food Box.  I subscribe to these boxes and review many of the samples of food that I receive from them on my foodie blog, which you can read here.

I was very curious about this “tea” because, as many of you know, I’m a HUGE fan of 52Teas and after months of bugging Frank of 52Teas, he finally relented and created a blend for me:  LiberTEAS Tomato, Basil, and Black Pepper Tea.  And I loved the stuff!  And to be honest, when I had originally suggested the tomato, basil, and black pepper blend, I had a green tea base in mind rather than a black tea base.  Frank thought that a black tea base with a hint of Lapsang Souchong in it would be better, and I do think that the black tea base was a good choice.  However, I remained curious about the green tea base, so when I received this Tomato Basil green tea infused sipping broth, I was excited to finally try a green tea with the flavors of tomato and basil.

The aroma of the bag when I opened the pouch was similar to the smell that I get when I open a tin of dried basil from my pantry.  The aroma had a very strong herbaceous scent to it.  The bag was kind of … hard.  that is to say that it didn’t really seem very “loose” or “leafy” inside the tea bag, it seemed to be more like a bit of bouillon that was dried in the bag.  Since this was called a “sipping broth” I didn’t find this objectionable, but, I can see how tea purists might find it a bit off.

Let me say that the “infused” part of the Tomato Basil Green Tea Infused Sipping Broth is the key word to the name of this product.  Because the green tea flavor is nearly indistinguishable.  I taste hints of an earthy, vegetative greenness to this “tea” which turns out to be more like broth than tea, and the hints are not really enough for me.  I found myself wishing that this was more like a tea and less like a broth.   That said, I do like that this is not quite as salty as I find the typical commercially produced broth or bouillon would be.

As a broth, it’s tasty.  As a tea … it leaves quite a bit to be desired.  Not bad, and it would be nice to maybe have on hand for when you might be feeling a tad under the weather and want a cup of broth to soothe and comfort you.  Especially nice if you’re at the office.    And that’s what I’d recommend it as:  a soothing, comfort food for when you’re away from home.  If you’re looking for a tea with the flavors of tomato and basil … I’d suggest looking somewhere else.

Taster’s Review:

This Organic Green Tea from Revolution Tea is a very pleasant cup of green tea!  It offers much of what I’d expect from a green tea – a fresh, lush flavor with a sweet, vegetative tone.

I didn’t learn that this was actually a blend of several different teas until after I had brewed it and consumed about half of my cup.  But now that I have learned it, and am tasting it … it is really obvious to me that it is a blend.  The vegetative tone reminds me of a Idulgashinna … but also a Sencha … including the hint of bitterness of a Sencha.  I like the bitterness here, it offers the palate an interesting contrast from the sweet grass notes.

The vegetative tones taste like a cross between kelp, steamed vegetables and freshly cut grass.  My first couple of sips were especially strong, reminding me of seaweed – which is something I don’t typically like, but, I did not find the seaweed-ish flavor off-putting … instead, my palate felt very refreshed after those first few sips.

By the time I’ve consumed half a cup of this tea, I find that the flavors tend to become more even … smoother.  It is still sweet and vegetal, but, the distinct flavors of the blend become more melded into a unified flavor.  I like the second half better than the first half … but still found the whole cup to be very enjoyable.

This is a really nice tea.  I’m not about to say it’s my favorite, because it isn’t, but, I enjoyed drinking it, and it is a tea that I wouldn’t mind drinking again.  This would be a tea that I’d like to take traveling (as opposed to relying upon a hotel to provide decent teas – you know they never do!) or any time that I need a tea for on the go.
