Taster’s Review:

Interesting… yes, that is how I would describe this tisane:  interesting.

I must admit that I was a little disappointed by this tea.  That is not to say that I didn’t enjoy it – I did!  It just isn’t quite what I expected.   Based on the description of this tisane, I expected it to be a spicy chocolate-y blend.   However, I found the anise to dominate the cup and what I taste is… well, licorice.  Now, I love licorice – LOVE IT!  But, it is certainly not what I was prepared to taste when I brewed this tea.

As I said, the licorice flavor is strong.  It is sweet and has a pleasant sharpness to it, and tastes a lot like a piece of black licorice that’s been lightly dipped in chocolate and sprinkled with a masala blend of spices.  I am not getting a lot of the chili flavor – but there is a VERY pleasant peppery kick at the finish.  It is pleasantly warm – with just enough bite for interest.  There isn’t a lot of chocolate flavor here – just a teaser of chocolate – but I like how it adds to the overall interest of the cup.

It is a very delicious blend of sweet and spicy with an emphasis on the sweet.  I suggest adding a drizzle of honey to the blend to bring out the sweeter side of the anise (without the sweetener I found this to be a little too pungent for my palate).  A very nice, INTERESTING change of pace!
