Taster’s Review:
This is really good! I love the sweet and spicy in this cup – the sweet is just a little stronger than the spicy, and they enhance each other very well. It is really quite a palate pleaser!
That being said, I’m finding it a little difficult to discern the different fruits and spices being represented here. They seem to merge very well – almost too well – so I can only taste wee little notes of each ingredient.
The green tea base is subtle here, it has a nice smoothness and offers a nice richness to the blend. It doesn’t taste very vegetative or grassy to me at all, and this may be because of the type of green tea used in the blend, or it could be that those sometimes undesirable flavors tend to be overwhelmed by the other flavors in the blend. (While I do have an appreciation for the vegetative/grassy notes of some green teas, I know that there are quite a few of you out there who do not)
I can taste a sweet smoothness brought on by the peach flavor, along with a delicate note of orange. There is a light tartness from the açaí berry. A subtle warmth comes through from the cloves and the ginger, and just at the end of the sip, the chili sort of SNAPS on the tongue, it isn’t really powerful or overwhelming… but it does let you know it’s there.
It’s really quite an enchanting blend – and I can see why Village Tea calls this their Sassy Green Tea!
Burgundy Blast from Simpson & Vail
Leaf Type: Herbal
Where to Buy: Simpson & Vail
Company Description:
This refreshing blend brews to a bright cherry red color with a sweet, tart taste. Comprised of hibiscus flowers, mango, papaya, lemongrass, safflower, mallow blossoms and acai and pomegranate flavors, this tea is fabulous both hot and iced.
Taster’s Review:
I’ll be honest, this tea scared me a little bit… a quick look at the ingredients made me think that this would be just a little too sour for my taste buds. So I put off trying it until now…
Yes, it IS a bit tart … BUT… it is also very tasty! It has enough sweet fruit flavor to it that it smooths out the tart edge just enough so that it’s agreeable.
The key, I think, is to not allow it to steep too long. I steeped it for just 5 minutes. This is enough time to extract flavor from the herbs and fruit without allowing the hibiscus to offset the delicate balance of this cup. Another important factor is that I served it iced. The chill allows the flavors to mellow out without dulling them too much. When it is hot, the flavor is much more potent.
But… let’s get on to how this tastes, because it is really quite tasty. I can taste mango and papaya, pomegranate and açaí. The lemongrass offers just a hint lemony taste, and it is just the right touch to the sweet-tart blend of fruits.
The hibiscus offers some body to this blend – but because I only steeped it for 5 minutes, it isn’t a thick, syrupy consistency. It is also not overwhelmingly sour. It offers just the right level of tart to create a very delicate balance between tart and sweet.
Simpson & Vail has a very intriguing recipe for this tea – Burgundy Blast Fizzy Drink – which can be found here. It looks absolutely delicious!
I enjoyed this tea very much and it was just the right tea for today, because even though the calendar says it’s autumn, the weather is very summer-like. It was HOT today! Drinking this as an iced tea was very refreshing!

Tasters Review:
This DOES have GREEN TEA in it but since it’s not a bagged or loose leaf tea and more of a tea product or a product from Green Tea…I thought I would categorize it under our Tea Products and Accessories Section.
“Pink” certainly IS Pink in color and smells like berries and a hint of grapefruit and/or lemonade. It’s incredibly sweet and fruity without being tart and it’s very tasty. It’s is NOT chalky…which is a definite PLUS. Like I said – it tastes like berries – moreso strawberries…and I can also up on a pineapple and lemonade type taste. There is NO funky after taste and it’s very thirst quenching…both of which are very important findings to point out – might I add. It’s a wonderful change-of-pace and a nice pick-me-up!
This one really surprised me and I think it’s a great product that uses green tea in it that isn’t traditionally a tea-tasting product for the sake of tea but still gives you the benefits of green tea!
If I had a large box of this stuff on hand I would totally see myself drinking it several times a week!

Tasters Review:
There are several reasons I was excited to try this tea from Village Tea Company! First…anything with SASSY in the name…I’m game! But more importantly ACAI. I have had many failures with Acai flavored teas. TOO MANY. This tea was very different! This is the Acai Flavored Tea I have been searching for!
Sassy Green Tea with Acai from Village Tea Company smells a bit like JUICY JUICE – at least that is what first came to mind when I initially sniffed it – or a fruity wine. When I sipped this I could still taste the sweet-green tea but pair it with fruity goodness – and there you have it! I can taste Acai, Orange, and Peach but can barely taste the ginger, chilies, and cloves which is completely fine with me. I think the reason for them – and the reason it works – is to make it so the fruit flavors are not over powering or bitter or too tarty. I think it also contributes to the lingering yet warming affect it has long after the sip is complete!
Another thing I would love to point out about Village Tea Company is…
